I have a friend who works at an animal shelter back in Oregon and he said that you have to sign two copies of an agreement that the pet will be placed in your home, and your home only. It's even explicitly stated verbally and given to the person in a signed contract, that the pet is their responsiblity and if there is any transfer of ownership the pet will be confiscated and returned to the Humane Society.

This is simply done to ensure the pet doesn't fall into the wrong hands.

As for Ellen, go buy the kids another dog. You've got the $$$.

I read that Ellen wasn't even the one that signed the contract, her "mate" signed it. I also read that the agency will not give the little girls back the dog. They have a policy that little/small dogs cannot be adopted to families with children under 14 years old. This is to protect the dog. Sad for the little girls, but sounds like this agency is trying to protect this dog. Ellen should just buy them another one.

Let's not go there....I'm sick and tired of hearing about "my two mommies" or "my two daddies" and they're not talking about a divorced home either (which isn't any better by the way, but at least it shows a natural male/female couple)

It's sad...but gay couples can adopt almost easier than straight. One of our local cogop pastors lost her foster child that they wanted to adopt to a lesbian couple! It's crazy.

Ok I am going to confess here. Months ago I watched an episode, or two, of Ellen. Wen used to DVR it and play certain parts for me when I got home. She had just got the pup then. So the truth is that she had the dog more than a week and had plenty of time to get attached (unless this is a 2nd pup within this year). My opinion is that though she did breech the contract their is probably no harm done and the rescue shelter wants to "auction" off Ellen's dog to the highest bidder. In fact I'd dare say she isn't the first person to give away her adopted pet but the shelter doesn't do routine checks to see if other pets are still in their respective homes.
