If you read it like you are reading Tom Sawyer or Huckleberry Finn. If you don't enjoy those laid back style books, no, don't read it again.

It's been several years since I read it. Once I stayed with it, I enjoyed it. However, I kept thinking back to working on my uncle's farm when I was little when he was talking about the fields and things like that. So maybe I was just being nostalgic at the time.

I do like his legal thrillers better though.

He has me wanting to go to Italy after reading "Playing for Pizza" and "The Broker".

Shellie, you definitely need to read "The Last Juror". It is good and was a touching book.

Oh that's cool. I didn't know that. He seems to get around pretty good, considering it.
 John is 2 years older than I am . I played football with him his senior year. He graduated with my brother. I graduated with his brother. Our sister graduated with his wife.

 I was hoping you'd catch that joke.

My wife loves his books and will read me the really good parts. I have so much to read with ministry, school, and work that I don't have time to read fiction right now. But what I've heard from Sarah is really good. If I could afford the time I'd read his stuff. When I was a teen I really enjoyed Stephen King.

Shellie, by all means give "Painted House" another try. I think you'll be glad you did. By the way, "Testament" was one of his best - the first 60 pages riveted me to my chair. Also LOVED the Last Juror, and yes, The Broker really made me want to visit Italy (home of my ancestors). Oh, what the H - E - DOUBLE HOCKEY STICKS - I love all of his legal thrillers! :) :D

When you realize the background of "A Painted House", you read it from a different perspective.

Testament is one of my favorites. A Time to Kill is my fav...once I got past the 1st couple of chapters. It is too hard for me to deal with the subject since I have little girls. The King of Torts has more interest to me since I became a certified Legal Nurse Consultant a couple of years ago...I realize how easily these things can happen!

I like Grisham so much because he doesn't/hasn't changed since reaching fame. Every one I know that "keeps up" with him talks about how involved he is with community & the underpriviledged.
The overall intelligence of the earth remains constant...unfortunately, the population increases daily!
