My tribute to John K. Silvers

He's been in Heaven for 3 years today. He was the best dad and husband and grandfather on the planet. I miss him like crazy. Most of all - I miss the daily talks we had about life and our philosophies of life's meaning. I'm jealous that he's there and I'm stuck here. But one day I'll see him again. In the meantime, he would want me to make the most of each day here. He said that in his last sermon - "not to give one day to the devil". Wouldn't the devil love to shut me up. Well, I'm determined to beat this depression I'm feeling and to be a witness to the world. Daddy would want that. I hope I can be his legacy for the Cause he held most high. To reach the lost with the promise of hope in Jesus Christ.

Kenya,You made a great first step in battling depression just now. You gave Glory to God and to His people. You testified of His goodness and His works through your father.

God truly worked through John and you are a living testiment of his faithfulness! Walk in boldness today and the victory that only Christ can bring!

Praying for you today, Kenya, that the Lord will just wrap His arms around you real good and bring you comfort. I can tell you from experience (26 years since I lost my mom) that the anniversary date will always bring memories and sadness that they aren't with you (for the time being). Just continue to hold on to all those good memories.

John was a great guy!!! I have so many found memories of you guys. It's funny, just yesterday I was feeling all "homesick" for heaven, missing my parents very much. Yesterday, I was singing all the heaven songs I knew. One that I hadn't thought of for a while was the Amy Grant one, "In A Little While."

I love you and am praying for you!!!

I was looking through my email addresses the other day when I came up on Pastor Silvers. I thought about the legacy that he has left. His work has not retired.

Kenya.
I can certainly sympathize with you in this time of your life. My dad has been gone since 1991 and I miss him today more than ever.

That is the legacy ....that they left a lasting impression in the lives of others and gave us the desire to rise up and go forward and they did in their lives.
None of God's great men were forced to be that......they choose it....
We have a treasure in their memories.......God help us to chose the same.

May you find comfort in the love of Jesus.....John taught you that is where you will find it!

Thanks for all your kind words - they are treasured. We spent the day "junking". Sharita, Mom, and her sisters went to vendors malls and stuff. It was fun. We reminisced and laughed - no tears today....

Kenya, your tribute to your father was beautiful , touching, and full of love. He was our first pastor at Keith Street. From that time, we were good friends and had many intimate conversations. I'll never forget the day he visited me in Westfield, IN. We spent hours just talking. He had vision and the heart of a pastor. You were blessed to have such a father -- and your wonderful Mom is made of the same stuff. Bless you!
