Obama + Donnie McClurkin "Embrace the Change" gosp

Postby MacUser » October 26th, 2007, 4:04 am

Donnie McClurkin Supporting OBama?

Grammy-winning gospel star Donnie McClurkin as one of the acts on a three-night Obama "Embrace the Change" gospel tour in South Carolina aimed at African Americans.

BUT.. Obama caught some Grief from Donnie's Christian views from the GAY AGENDA.. So.. BAM he hangs McClurkin? Wow.. what a friend.

On Wednesday, concerns about McClurkin reached a tipping point in the Obama campaign. The solution settled upon was to have a South Carolina gay minister -- identified as the Rev. Arthur Sidden -- deliver an invocation.

My Rant: AM I the only one that states.. "What the HECK is Donnie doing with OBAMA?". I REALLY, REALLY like enjoy his powerful worship music... but if he can't determine whom his real "brothers (in Christ)" are.. I'm not sure I can personally continue to support his music?

Someone please educate me on what is going on here before I jump to the conclusions.

It's rare for Christian singers to pigeonhole themselves into political corners - they pretty much sing wherever they are asked. McClurkin, along with Third Day, sang at the last Republican National Convention. Michael W. Smith campaigned for Bush both times. At the same time, other artists like Plus One and Jaci Velasquez (I think) performed at Democratic Conventions.

McClurkin isn't only performing, though - I believe he is endorsing Obama and I guess that goes back to the debate if you think Christians can only be Republicans. Obviously there are going to be some Christians rooting for Democrats to win the White House. Crazier things have happened. I do think it's nuts the controversy people are trying to place on McClurkin because of his past, but at the same time he agreed to be on the Obama tour and should have known this would happen. When you hang out with the wrong crowd......

I, for one, am completely non-partisian. I'll vote for who I think best suits the office, rather than their party affiliation.

Thank you Paully! I am so tired of people following the "Religious Right" blindly or voting Democrat because family always had or because you don't agree/like Bush. Vote for the person who can do the best job and/or shares your values. It is simply moronic to vote party lines, in my honest and oh so humble opinion...which just happens to be correct. :D

I don't have to vote party lines. In the immortal words of Ann Coulter, I'd vote for Zell Miller over John McCain any day of the week.

Well, I know full well that my friend "J" is going to call me "RACES" again, but .......................................

For many people, the r--- or s-- of a person trumps their political views to the point that they want that person in office regardless.

To others (including many Christians) the Republican party has strayed far enough from Christian principals (with the exception of the big "A" issue) that some of the Democrats aren't looking half bad.

I have to admit that I am totally in the middle this year and not sure who to support.

I like FT and RP for various reasons, but I don't think they have a chance.

I am more and more convinced that a D is going to win and I'd rather have Obama than H-llary.

Me too Paully. It just so happens that the best person for the office, IMHO, always turns out to be a Republican.

I haven't given up hope yet. We have a lot of time left for the Democratic nominees to destroy their own campaigns. Just ask Howard Dean, all it takes it one "YEEEEE-AHHHHHHHHH!!!"

exactly. but I do try to keep an open mind/opinion when it comes to other parties, and try to read up on the issues and their stands. sometimes the party lines get a bit gray when it comes to comparing with my personal Christianity foundations. :)

I just can't vote Democrat because of the abortion issue, and I don't want them to have the majority because of that. But on the other hand, it bugs me when people just vote Republican straight across. What if the independent party guy is better? And just because they are Republican doesn't mean they are better or more moral... look at Governor Arnold I-refuse-to-try-to-spell-his-last-name.

I don't like to cast racial stereotypes either, but many believers of color are democrat in their party affiliation. :)

For the truth that lies at the heart of theology is not something there to be discovered, but something, or rather someone, to whom we must surrender. The mystery of faith is not ultimately something that invites our questioning, but something that questions us.
