Pastor vacation time?

Postby KBevangelist » November 8th, 2007, 6:05 am

Does your church require the pastor to take a vacation?

Does your church pay for your local pastor to have a "real" vacation every year?

Why or why not?

When I say "real" vacations I mean something beside church related (camps, conventions, etc)

These questions may have already been discussed. However, I was talking with a fellow pastor about this today and I would like your opinions.

Our pastor receives two weeks paid vacation. That doesn't limit him. There have been several family emergencies that the church has helped with. But in general, it is two weeks paid vacation. There have been times we have raised money and paid for a pastor to get away for a weekend (which is totally different than paying them to go away for a weekend).

They'll take either one.

This means that you paid him his normally weekly (or monthly) salary while he was gone. Or, does it mean you paid for his vacation?

We pay him his regular pay while he is gone. Just like a secular job. They don't pay for your vacation, but you get the time paid off.

Now on a few occasions (anniversaries, etc.), we have paid for a special trip, but other than that, that is there money paying for the actual cost of the vacation.

The church I pastor includes a flat amount of "extra" pay for a vacation, this is besides my salary that is also paid to me while I am away.
