I have a question for your mechanical types. My truck may or may not have serious brake issues? Once or twice of recent the brake pedal has almost went to the floor upon braking to start the ignition. I just had new brake pads put on back in March 2007 and I have had the rotors turned and ground twice in the past couple months. After all this, I am still having some brake issues and some roaring in the front wheel area.
Concerning the brake issue, a mechanic is wanting to replace the master cylinder as a precaution for around $175. I'm also not sure that I don't need new rotors for the roaring and whirring. He said the only other brake issue would be the ABS system but that the light normally would be on in this case.
Should I get the master cylinder?

Your brakes are too important to take chances with, find a reputable mechanic (I know it's an oxymoron 
). There are many factors that could contribute to your problem. Does your truck have an automatic transmission, or is it a manual shift? Why are you applying the brake during starting? Do the brakes feel "spongey" at any other time? Under hard braking do you feel the brakes "pulsing?"
The noise could be anything from brakes to a bad wheel bearing, or even tire noise (quite common with truck tires because of their tread designs).

Sounds like a master cylinder problem or they didn't properly bleed the brakes or you have a leak.
If there is no leak or air in the lines, my vote would be the master cylinder.
Your best bet is to take it to a professional.

Automatic transmission. Habitually,I apply brakes at starting preparing for reverse backup most of the time. The brakes normally would catch, but once or twice have went almost to the floor. The front end was jumping up and down upon braking until I had the rotors ground a second time. Under hard braking, the ABS often groans but that has also happened on other vehicles.

Wow.. yes.. I would have those brakes checked out ASAP. It should never be going all the way to the floor unless issues are arising.
As mentioned before.. tires themselves can become out of round and belts break and they will really roar or bounce.. especially if it's a beefy tire etc. All of the larger offroad tires are usually always hard to balance.
But seriously.. get it professionally checked out ASAP concerning the brakes.
And just because the mechanics are not perfect... check online for related issues. I find tons of quick answers if you know how to look for them. This can help the mechanic quickly diagnose the issue with your research.
