These are all great points guys. Like I said I wasn't really saying that is what I believed, but it does make me wonder. I have actually thought of home schooling my children since I have an education degree, but that is something that I have been thinking and praying about and will continue to think and pray about.

I do know a few teenagers in my school who really influence alot of kids when it comes to Christianity and I wonder what my school would be like without them.

I want to put my 2 cents in here.

I applaud you mothers who are home schooling your children. And for those of you who can afford Christian schooling.

I'm not young as you all are.. but I'm not ancient either.

Over the years I have seen the schools deteriorate. To now, they have atheist teaching our children. No such thing as morality.

When they took God out of schools as we have heard time after time..after time. The devil took over. Then the people cry why did God allow? God was not in it to start with. You sent him packing.. remember?

As a kid growing up the worse thing you could do was skip school. Then as a teenager the worse thing was sneaking to smoke in the girls lavatory.
My children contend with that..
skiping school..
smoking
plus drugs
and teenage pregnancy
and abortions.

Now in schools we see..
Crime
Rapes
sexual acts in class rooms
The fear of guns/knives and the such as Columbine.

I guess the list could go on.

As someone already said..would you put them in a den full of lions with no armor? Their babes.

Anyhow.. thank God that your kids don't have to be confronted with these issues when they leave the protection of your house.
Thank God that your able to home school or pay the tuition.

What a drop from when I was in school.. the big thing to do was skip school for the day.

We tried to lay a strong foundation in our children's lives when they were little and still very impressionable-- they have homeschooled and been in Christian Schools, until we moved to Indiana two years ago.. I don't regret that they are in public school now because they are strong in the LORD and they are a light wherever they go... they invite friends to church who are becoming a part of our church, they pick good friends and avoid influences on their own, including tv and video game choices, that would be negative for them. They have learned wisdom and discernment, because we taught it to them.. we grew to be a close-knit family through homeschooling, and I think that has helped them to be less peer-dependent, they are confident in themselves and in the choices they make, and they choose friends who are loyal and respect them. So, I'm thankful, and I don't regret the work it took to do it.

I have entrusted my kids to God; I have done what He called me to do at the time I was homeschooling, and I am now doing what He has called me to do here. So, I don't worry about my kids, even though they are in public school.
..I press on to take hold of that
for which Christ took hold of me.

Agreed. But the ones I really respect are the folks who can't afford it, but make a way anyway. I've known several from church who sacrifice greatly to "make it happen" and make sure their kids get a Christian education. My hats off to them.

That's true.. Some do greater sacrifices than others.

I do want to say I appreciate those Christians teachers who are fighting the good fight, serving as salt and light in our public schools. I had some of those teachers myself and they definitely were a light in a dark place, lifting my spirits and even praying for me when I needed it.

Jessica and I want to home school Jakob.

What I see here, where I teach high school, there are those students who profess to be Christian and use profanity, lie, talk bad about teachers and other students, and some have even spit in the backpack of a student (who claims to be gay).

It is really sad, but that is what the majority of our adults show our kids. Christianity is only a term not a lifestyle.

And we are a good school.. We have prayer over the intercom every morning and say the pledge.

I was homeschooled all 12 years, never attended public or private school except for a creative writing class and an oil painting class I took at the Christian school our church at the time was running.

I will definitely homeschool my own kids. I know that I would have been a different person had I grown up in public school. My parents didn't cut me off from the world, but they exposed me to the world in doses that they controlled, coupled with teaching of why that was wrong, etc. Like Tracy is doing with her kids, we learned about other countries' religions. We learned about evolution. When I started college, I had a firm foundation and knew who I was and what I believed. The majority of the kids around me were still trying to figure that out.

I totally agree that kids need to be trained before they are sent out on their own to a spiritual battlefield.

I did have friends who were in public school who were good kids. I think the family life makes all the difference. But, there is a difference between good and best.

As far as witnessing goes, there are plenty of opportunities to witness to kids outside of school. It may not be quite as intimate as it is in public school, but on the flip side, I don't really want my kids being intimate with the world.

Hats off to the Christian teachers who buck up against the humanism and refuse to teach it. You're making a world of difference for those kids.

My mom pulled me out of public school for 2 years and sent me to christian schools to straighten me out. After 5 schools, mom sent me back to public schools. The christian schools were as bad if not worse then the public schools.

That's just my experience.

First, remember not all schools and not all teachers are the same, I have yet to meet a teacher at my children's school who is not pretty solid in church, many from our church work in the school systems. Maybe it's just because we're in a small community in the middle of nowhere in Central KY, but I ain't complaining.

But more importantly I don't think it's just the school that makes the difference.

Those that choose to Home School, or to send their children to a Christian School are MUCH more active in their children's education and especially religious education. This can be true for those attending Public School as well, but the issue is many are trying to leave the parenting to a school, and that doesn't work no matter how good the school is.

Home Schooling prevents this to a point (if done right, but we all know there are those that "Home School" just means their kids don't leave the home, but there isn't much "school" going on), but is not the only way to see this happen.

Right now my son is slacking off alot in school, we are working with his teachers, and with him to deal with the issue, but I know if we were homeschooling him, it would be a bigger problem due to personalities. I would probably have strangled him by now! I am not the one to teach my children, I am very patient and a good teacher, just have very high expectations when it comes to my kids, and since I get that from my own father, I know it doesn't work well if I don't keep it in check.

Each family needs to look at what is best for them and for their situation. Look honestly at it, and no matter what the choice is, be responsible, be involved, and be a parent!
