A soldier has gone home

Postby pastorables » November 25th, 2007, 12:43 pm

Brother Frank Smith of the Tupelo, MS area passed to his reward on this a.m. Brother Smith has an extensive history of ministry in the AG and Church of God of Prophecy.

On a side note, he served as pastor to Elvis for awhile and taught him his first guitar chords.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time.

Brother Smith was always good to Suz and I. I remember when he used to sell Blackburn's syrup. He would come to stock the Jitney Jungle in Fulton, MS when I was a bagboy there.

Brother Smith's body is at W. E. McGee Funeral Home
535 W. Jefferson St
Tupelo, MS.
Telephone number: (662) 842-4872

Visitation will be Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
The funeral will be conducted on Wednesday at 2:00 p.m.

Please keep this family in your prayers and thoughts! Thanks!
Jay

The information below is very interesting. I didn't realize that Brother Smith taught Elvis the "Old Shep" song.

Daily Journal wrote:He has received much recognition as he is known as “the man that taught Elvis Presley how to play the guitar”, as he was the pastor of East Tupelo Assembly of God church where the family of Vernon and Gladys Presley were members. He also taught Elvis the song “Old Shep” which he went on to record, and he is recognized in many books, documentaries, films and monuments for his relations with Elvis.
