May as well wear black and get a horse and buggy.

Hey, ya'll remember Glenda? Anyway, she told me one time that there was an Amish boy up by her that had dice hanging in the front "window" space of his buggy.
There never was a horse that couldn't be rode and there never was a cowboy that couldn't be throwed.

And it goes along with that scripture about the elect being "barely" saved, right?
Why is it that bad decisions seem to make to most interesting testimonies?

THAT will preach better than a flag stuck off in the woods on a tree being skipped by a lightning strike (I used to believe that when I was 12).

Scooter, Gerald, and Rambo:

Postby Mister Ed » December 3rd, 2007, 1:14 pm

I FEEL LIKE TAKING ON ALL OFYOU AT THE SAME TIME. (Just kidding, really.)

I just want to talk ballistics and a fact.

The bullet thing could actually be as stated. I have done quite a bit of hunting and bullets can do strange things other than just make a hole. The military has an armor piercing bullet that can punch a hole through rather thick steel but a 22 caliber hollow point rifle bullet can hit a small twig and shatter into hundreds of tiny pieces, whereas a 22 caliber solid nose bullet would cut the same twig into and still travel up to a mile. So the bullet hitting the ring (probably a small caliber) would have shattered and caused injury in several places.

The other thing: the flag on the tree and the lightning strike. This also could very well have happened, but NOT from a great Divine protection as was believed in the past. I did some reading on lightning strikes and one thing I found was that lightning traveling down (or sometimes up, depending on positive or negative charge), a tree can jump over anything in it's path that is non-conductive to electricity. That is when I looked at the flag and tree thing and said "Big Deal".

Thanks for letting me share this. (Unless you don't agree :sb_bye:

Yes, lightning can jump.
Yes, God can divinely protect.

The question I always asked was: Why did someone tack a flag to a tree off the beaten path in the woods?
You mean someone just waded into the thicket off the path, picked out a tree, tacked a flag to it and that very tree was laater struck by lightning!

SOMEONE is not telling the whole story.

Gerald:

The tree that the flag was on was off the regular path up the mountain to AJ's place of prayer. The flag was placed there to draw attention to a sign written on a board beneath it which read "Go this way and not have such a steep climb to the top". Seems there was a little known path easier to climb.

you are killing me. the steps weren't always there? and the path from the steps to the tree isn't the original path?! auggghghhg (okay, just kidding).

Right-on! And, did I forget to mention (in case you don't know) the tree was called "the witness tree".

I do remember that from my last visit to the field of the wood.

oh, and by the way, I remember when the lightning story was told me, I was thinking to myself that I know that lightning can and does react in very erratic ways, and isn't just an "exceptional" case. but the story was a kind of "faith-builder" of sorts. I remember thinking that people may over-spiritualize something that may have some significance, otherwise. kinda like when I was in Israel, and anywhere that there was nearly "any" kind of evidence for a Biblical something or another at a given location, there was a church built there.

Hay, maybe we need to move the chapel to the witness tree location, and build a glass-bottom floor around the elevated sanctuary so that you can look down at the remains of the tree and the ground around it. that would be kewl!
