Which one should Tim get me for Christmas??

Postby jessicacook » December 3rd, 2007, 1:21 pm

I was wondering which of these two cameras is the better one...what do y'all think? I want to be able to take pics of Jakob instead of going to do professional ones all the time, but I don't want to spend a WHOLE lot on a camera.

Image
7 megapixels: The Kodak EasyShare M753 captures photo-quality, 300dpi images up to 7.6” x 10.2”, and good-quality 200dpi images up to 11.5” x 15.3”. That’s plenty of sharp resolution to capture details, crop creatively and produce enlargements.

Zoom: Optical zoom magnifies subjects without sacrificing resolution. This 3x optical zoom goes from a slight wide-angle view to a telephoto view that brings distant objects closer (35mm equivalent: 37mm-111mm). The 5x digital zoom picks up where optical zoom leaves off, stretching pixels to make the image look bigger.

2.5" LCD display: Get a good look at your pictures on the large 2.5” high resolution indoor/outdoor color display. Whether you shoot your pictures vertically or horizontally, auto picture rotation lets you view them right side up.

Digital image stabilizer high ISO: With its range of up to ISO 1250, this camera lets you shoot in difficult conditions. This high ISO means that the image sensor can handle shorter exposures to light, allowing faster shutter speeds that can prevent blurred images due to camera shake or moving subjects.

Scene modes: Choose your mode, and this camera automatically adjusts settings such as shutter speed, flash and focus to adapt to the situation. This camera features eight different scene modes, including sport, snow, beach, sunset, and more.

Image
Features

7.1-megapixel: With 7.1 megapixels, you get the kind of detail that makes ordinary images extraordinary and the freedom to crop images and enlarge prints easily.

Zoom: The 4x optical zoom lens lets you capture everything from landscapes to snapshots with the brightness and clarity. The additional 4x digital zoom lets you enlarge the details before or after shooting.

2.5" LCD: The PowerShot A560 features a big 2.5" LCD screen, so whether you're setting up your shot or playing it back, everything is bright and clear.

Scene modes: Special scene modes give you breathtaking, exhilarating pictures even when shooting conditions are tough.

High ISO sensitivity: The ISO 1600 and high ISO auto settings reduce the effects of camera shake and sharpens subjects in low-light situations, giving you greater shooting flexibility.

If this isn't a big enough hint.....I don't know what is!!

Don't know about the Kodak, but I have read VERY good reviews on the Canon. Maybe someone will have one and can tell you better. I would for sure get the Canon if it were me.

I've had two Kodaks and have enjoyed using them.

Of the two choices offered, however, I think I'd go with the Canon for the additional Optical Zoom.

Canon, for sure.
Why is it that bad decisions seem to make to most interesting testimonies?

The Rebel certainly would have name appeal in Mississippi, I know, and is a GREAT camera (my son has one) but may be too large and complex for the mother of a small child wanting to get good shots to document those precious memories. I think any of the Canon Powershot series are good choices for size, mobility, ease of use, weight, price...

I bought this model and absolutely love it!

canon
more optical zoom, faster ISO. based on what you have presented.

neither one mention shutter lag. this is a BIG issue, and one you will need to be "used" to. this is the time it takes until your camera is ready and can take a subsequent picture.

shutter lag also depends on the mode the camera is in when taking the previous picture. My little sony will take burst pictures for as long as I hold the button down, but slows down at about 20 or so shots. so taking single shots (no flash) are fast and is ready for teh subsequent picture snap as fast as the focus is achieved (less than a second if changing shots, faster if the same shot).

There are many other things to consider, not the least of which is batteries, how long they last, and if rechargeable is available. I personally think the proprietary (removable) ones are the better way to go. they last longer than replaceable off-the shelf, and are rechargeable. You can get off-the-shelf rechargeable, but they don't even last as long as the non-rechargeable ones, so you will need several (or more) sets.

optical zoom, as mentioned is good to have more optical zoom, but part of this consideration is the physical size of the lens. the bigger the "glass", the more light is allowed in the apature. the more light allowed, the faster the shutter speed is probably allowed.

In other words, if you have more "glass" (this usually means bigger physical size camera), the better you will capture those "action" shots outside (Frisbee in midair, baseball off the bat, golf ball in flight, etc...). it also means you will probably be able to get the shots indoors under lower light conditions without needing a flash.

so depending on what you will use it for you will want a balance of physical size and functionality/speed.

as for megapixel, that is nearly at the bottom of the list for considerations in my point, as long as it is at or over 3-4 mpxl. Of course the higher megapixel, the bigger the print you can make and have it look good.
Thanks, Brent "RamboPreacher" Hoefling

I have a Canon and I love it. The only appeal to me for the other one is it's slimmer - my Canon has a large hump where the batteries go.

There are two things to look at when buying a digital camera (outside of brand quality). How many megapixels, and how much optical zoom. Between the two cameras (which are of comparable quality) that you showed us the Cannon has a very slight edge in the megapixels, 7.1 vs 7.0. Add to it the fact that it has the higher zoom capacity . . .

I hpoe that you enjoy your new Cannon camera.

I say the Canon... I have had one of the Kodak Easy Share cameras and a replacement one.... I hated both of them... The photo quality was awful... and it would eat up batteries (yes, rechargeable ones) faster than you could turn around.... I used it at a wedding and only got 10 photos.... I have a Nikon CoolPix S5 and love it...

That's so very odd. I have an Easyshare Z7590 (my second Easyshare): The battery lasts a very long time, I just had a event I shot 15 minutes of video PLUS a 130 pix at hiRes and I probably still won't have to charge it for a long while.

I say go with the Canon! I have a Canon Powershot A410 and it has been great, and I've been pleased with the photos I've gotten.

I am wanting to upgrade as I am getting more serious with my photography so I'm asking for this one for Christmas, The Canon Rebel XTI
