Mike Huckabee's pardon record

Postby DaJudge » December 6th, 2007, 5:12 am

Here's a link to a 2004 article from an Arkansas paper, saying Huckabee pardoned more felons (including murderers) than all the governors of his neighboring states combined.

I have a real problem with this.

That paper seems to have a lot to do with the town of Beebe Arkansas, which I used to live in. If you can believe anything that comes out of that hellhole, it has changed a lot.
Why is it that bad decisions seem to make to most interesting testimonies?

After doing just a little research, I found out that Reagan pardoned 575 people during his tenure. Does this mean that Gip was a bad president? FDR was governor for 4 terms, but he issued 3,687!

I am not trying to deflect from Mike Huckabee, just trying to put the numbers given into some perspective.

Steve, Ronaldus Magnus was governing a whole COUNTRY when he made those 575 pardons. In the same amount of time (8 years), Huckabee granted over 700 pardons in the little podunk state of Arkansas!

I'm not bashing Huckabee. I agree with a lot of what he stands for, especially the Fair Tax. But, I think we should be aware of all facets of the candidates, so that we can vote for the best guy.

I know that Huck says he's for the fair tax but is he really? A gov. of Arkansas he didn't act that away.

I'll give him the benefit of the doubt that he is. He's the only candidate out there that is advocating for it right now.

Thanks, Judge. I appreciate you pointing out possible chinks in the armor!

I think that if Huckabee were to back down on the Fair Tax after being elected, he would face a HUGE backlash. He has Neil Boortz with a national platform and devoted listeners who would rip him to shreads.

Huck seems to be a guy who says what he believes no matter what others think, so I am with judge, I have to give him the benefit of the doubt. Plus, it is one thing that makes him so appealing. Even Jon Stewart and Bill Mahr have praised him for saying what he believes. At least you know what to expect from him, unlike Hillary who lives by polls and focus groups.

What everyone has to understand about the any taxes in Arkansas is that it's state constitution makes it illegal to have a budget deficit. So, when it's determined that spending can get no lower that state, regardless of who is Gov., has to raise taxes or find another source of revenue to balance the budget. I would imagine that if you guys that complain about Huckabees tax record would look further into it, I'm sure there are many tax increases proposed to him that he fought and struck down along with the many taxes he cut.

Yeah, and become the blind zombie to any criticisms and asking that people look at it objectively. I've learned my lesson on here already. Huckabee has and will never do anything evil. Let's all say our mantra...."We will not question Huck, We will not question Huck...."

Come now, Jeff. I felt that jab all the way in Knoxville! I have not said Huckabee has never done wrong. He's like the rest of us. What I have said is that I believe he is the best man to be our president, and I have said why. I have purposefully tried to not bash the other candidates, just focus on Mike's positive aspects. I have responded to criticisms of him where I could.

It is up to you to vote for who you want to, and I hope that you will. All I am tying to do is explain why I am for Huckabee and tell as many people as I can about him so they can check him out for themselves.

I am not under the delusion that EVERYBODY on here is for Huck, I would say that the majority are not. I know me and Can'tBCoy are for him.....and you, maybe.....oh, wait......

Well, anyway, if you know of things other than his tax record, please tell me about it! I don't know about everything about the man, and I need to make an informed decision. All I ask is that if you give information, give a credible reference so I can check it out. If you want to start a Thompson thread, or a Rudy thread, or a Ron Paul thread, or a Hillary thread, go for it! Tell us why we should vote for them!

Love ya, man (and no, I don't want yer stinkin' beer!)
