I am wanting to upgrade as I am getting more serious with my photography so I'm asking for this one for Christmas, The Canon Rebel XTI

We upgraded earlier this year. We went with the Canon 30D. We looked at the Rebel XTI because it was lighter and several women I know liked it. However, I liked how the 30D fit in my hand. It was a natural fit with the button. It is heavier, but I liked it better. We have enjoyed it and the several lenses we bought with it. It takes great pictures!!!

I can't say as to which camera would be better, but I thought I'd share how my husband got our digital camera...

He got the idea from Dave Ramsey, but he went into Circuit City and asked if they had anything damaged or such in the back that they would sell him. They showed him an Olympus camera. Nothing wrong with it at all, but it had been a display camera and they did not have the original packaging so they could not sell it outright. They had all of the accessories and books with the camera all in a big ziplock bag. It was normally $275-$300 but they sold it to him for $100. He bought a 2 yr extended warranty plan for $25. He got it for me for Valentine's Day 2006. We had to have it sent in for repairs a few weeks ago because of a shutter problem, but now it is as good as new again.

Anyway, if you have your heart set on one of those two cameras then go for it, but if you ask around for what is in the "back" first, you may end up with something you'd be just as happy with for a lot less money!

Hint to Tim

A hint for the hubby: If the digital camera is your gift for wifey for Christmas, may I suggest that you pre-load the batteries and memory card, and let her open it right before you go to bed on Christmas Eve... so she can use it to record all the chaos of Christmas morning and the babie's presents.

you surround them with your favor as with a shield." (Psalm 5:12)

I want to do the same....upgrade...I looked at the Canon xti but it does not have the ability to create those little Avi files.

YES, I want to get serious about photography, but I don't want to have to give up that capability.

So I'm looking at this one:
Canon PowerShot A650IS 12.1MP Digital Camera with 6x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom

Santa came a little early and brought one of my gifts early!!! Got my Canon Rebel XTI!!!! I've been playing with it all day, getting use to all the features, it's amazing!

The AVI capability was not a biggie for me (yet, wait till grandkids arrive but I have YEARS for that! ) I really wanted a camera for serious photo taking and this one had everything I wanted!!

Very smart indeed!! That is what makes my Santa so smart, he gave it to me now so I could know how to use it BEFORE Christmas!! (Besides, he's a softie!! )

very nice, and a wishlist item of mine. BUT it is not "practical" for nearly everything picture taking a "normal person". in fact, I am very glad that I didn't take a "nice" bulky camera with my on my overseas trip. :) "most" people want a general use camera that they can keep in their purse or pocket.
Thanks, Brent "RamboPreacher" Hoefling
