We called my great-grandparents, Grandma Cook, and then on my mom's side we had Big Mama and Granddaddy.

We called my only living grandmother, Grandma, and her husband we just called Al. LOL!

Now for our daughter, we call Brad's parents Grammie and Grandpa, and my parents are Grandma & Granddaddy.

HOWEVER,

My brother has decided that he wants his kids to call mom "Mamaw" instead of "Grandma". I wish she would go for "Grandmama" as we all call her Mama. But I think it's weird to have different names for different grandkids, especially when mom will have 7 sets of grandkids more than likely! I think Mamaw is just TOO country sounding.

LOL!!!!!!! Nothing, but my family lives in the Ozark mountains of Arkansas. They live amongst a special brand of country that I'd rather not emulate. Ha ha!

This is fun.

Called my paternal grandparents Mama Shelton and Papa Shelton. Why? I dunno. That's what all the other grandchildren called them (Papa died on my 1st birthday, so I guess I never technically called him anything).

Called my maternal grands Papaw and Mama. I know most folks call their mothers Mama (or Momma?) if they call anybody Mama, but we picked it up from our mothers calling her Mama and it just stuck. (For that matter, I called my mother Mother and my aunt .... Sister!! Because that's what Mother called her! ) (Side note: Come to think of it, all of my mother's siblings had odd nicknames. Her brother Warren we called Uncle Buck, died at age 51 from literally drinking himself to death. Her brother Lois we called Hashi Baba --- I still don't know why --- died at age 39 when he got drunk, passed out with a cigarette in his hand and burned his house and himself with it. And her brother Charles was called Buddy Charles because that's what my oldest brother called him, but he died in a drunken high-speed car wreck on the week of Christmas in 1960 at the age of about 22 and I never knew him. See a trend? Bummer note for this otherwise cheery thread!!!!)

My daughter calls my dad Papaw Gilbert and calls my wife's mom Mammaw (pronounced Mam maw, not Mom maw). If Mother had lived long enough for my daughter to learn to talk, she would call her Mammy (that's what my oldest brother's daughter began calling her 35 or so years ago, and all her other grandchildren called her). My wife's dad was called just Papaw (pronounced Pap paw, not Pop paw).

Grandparents

Postby jessicacook » December 11th, 2007, 5:05 pm

Jakob has a mamaw and papaw (Tim' parents), a Granny (my mom),a Nana and Pops (Sis. Betty Jo and Bro. Paul-members at our church), and 2 grandmas(2 more church members). Our church family felt he needed grandmas and a Nana here since my mom and Tim's parents were so far away! LOL

My husband called his grand parents, Ma and Pa, on both sides.

If my parents had lived, my kids would have called them G-momma and G-daddy. They just didn't look like Mamaw/Papaw!!

It's sad when this is the only kind of post I have time to get involved in.....

Anyway,
Everyone called my great grandmother "Mother" If you knew Cora Randall, you'd understand. She was kind of scary.

I called my dad's parents Grandpa and Grandma. My YOUNGER cousin rebelled and called these same people MaMa and PaPa. My cousin even younger than that called them "Tucky Grandma and Grandpa" so I'm sure they stayed confused when putting labels on the "to" "from" on CHristmas gifts

My maternal grandparents were MaMa and PaPa. Easy.

My kids call my parents AhMomma and DatDaddy. They were supposed to be called Grandmomma and Granddaddy but Denine couldn't pronounce it so it evolved into "Ahmomma" and "Datdaddy". Now about a kazillion teenagers refer to them as that also and they love(d) it too!
