Just wondering: I keep hearing references to acceptance of homosexuality, almost always from those in groups who have separated from COGOP. Who is promoting the idea, or planting the smear, that somehow because COGOP allows rings and remarried people that inevitably leads to gay ministers?

Again I will say this debate has nothing to do with any present situation regarding any organization. Nor am I implying that this would happen. You see stevenson is quick to say we should never had left. Now my thoughts Pastor Gary as you know on theocracy would hinder me from just leaving the church period. My point is I find it so unbelievable that someone could not stay in COGOP because of the 29 teachings which are not really that strict, but would not mind staying if out right sin was in play.
Does'nt the cogop still have the 29 teachings? I know the jewelry changed and the exact theological thought on divorce/ remmariage but other then that what other major change has taken place within the 29 teaching's? I cant not imagine that not wearing rings could be such a obstacle but sin would not be. This is an on going debate between me and stevenson on UTR, so again dont think I assuming anything regarding cogop.

Not to mention me and stevenson have been agreeing to much lately so we are trying to find something to disagree on so we can debate again

I chaned your quote to add "What if ", so no one mis interprets the statement.

The latter part of your statement troubles me. you use the word eligible. Anyone no matter the sin in their life is eligible for salvation even in the state they are in. It is only through salvation that one can be freed from that state or any state of sin.

Thank you for the add, i did have "what if" before my () but I can see how that could be taken wrong. Eligible may have not been the best terminolgy. Yet all are eligible but if you stay in sin you are not saved. That was my point.

But, one love, when a person is saved they may have many areas of sin problems to deal with.. God may deal with them about certain things before others, and it may be a struggle and a process in becoming free.
..I press on to take hold of that
for which Christ took hold of me.

First let me start here

you said :

..but the statement that was quoted about coming out of the A/G, that bugs me. I prefer to leave the weird stuff (that comment included) in the past

Could you please explain what you mean by this and which comment was made. If you do not mind qoute the comment and help me understand where the confusion is. If it was in reference to what I said, I did not imply anything negative at al. SO I am just making sure

Second I will for now on use the terminlogy "an organization" so nobody assumes I am making a prophetic statement of some kind insinuating im talking about cogop. I tried my best to say this has nothing to do with any particular organization but a thought that you should never leave. Now I will assure you I believe that probablly stronger then most. Leaving in my thought can only be God directed alone. Yet if one does not believe in any exclusive church then why would you stay if it promoted sin. GOD hates sin and disobedience.

Next I feel God can save, sanctify, fill with the holy ghost and one can abstain from outright sin. Not making a mistake but a willful transgression against God. I smoked for years, when I was saved and sancified I was delivered instantly. Jesus always replied with "go and sin no more"

As far as I know, we have not published a brochure that codified our denominational distinctives into a numerical list in at least a decade. That was, I think, one of our problems of the past... instead of saying we stand on the Word of God, we tried to get real specific with make a list, which led to the mindset, "If I live up to these 29 it's all good."

There is nothing in the 29 against abortion... nothing against pornography... nothing against homosexuality, if you want to get down to it... nothing against being a 'church boss' or a gossip... so we turned people out for wrapping heaven's paving material around their fingers, but there were girls getting abortions quietly to cover one sin with another.

I am in favor of eliminating everything that smells of a list of rules.
"God is excited to show you mercy. He rises to give you His compassion." (Isaiah 30:18)

you surround them with your favor as with a shield." (Psalm 5:12)

Noboby could list all the things in which they believe. But almost every church organization I know of have a statement of faith or constitution or something relative to that. The 29 teachings or basic bible beliefs are the same. One could be turned out for sin period not just the 29 teachings. SO it should never be implied if follow the 29 im saved. Being saved is being forgiven by the power and blood of Jesus christ. But that is not a green light for sin.

From TCOG

Repentence
Repentance is the act of turning from and forsaking sin. Read Mark 1:15; Luke 13:3; Acts 3:19.

Justification
Justification is a state and an act. It is the state of being void of offense toward God by the act of God's forgiveness of the transgressions for which one has repented. See Romans 5:1-9; Titus 3:7.

Regeneration
Regeneration is an act of God performed in the justified heart whereby new, spiritual life is generated. See Titus 3:5. Regeneration is simultaneous with the new birth. Also see, Matt. 19:28.

Born Again
To be born again is to become a new creature in Christ and a child of God. This new birth is the result of repentance, justification and regeneration and is accompanied by a definite inner witness. See John 3:3; 1 Peter 1:23; 1 John 3:9. The new birth is a prerequisite for the experience of sanctification.

Sanctification
Sanctification is the second definite work of grace, an instantaneous work wrought in the regenerated heart by the Holy Ghost with the blood of Christ. In regeneration actual transgressions are forgiven, but in sanctification the Adamic nature, or inbred sin, is eradicated. Sanctification restores man to the holy estate of Adam before the fall, and gives him the grace to live a life of holiness, thus making him eligible for the indwelling of the Holy Ghost. Sanctification is subsequent to justification. See Romans 5:2; 1 Corinthians 1:30; I Thessalonians 4:3; Hebrews 13:12; 1 John 1:9.

Holiness
Holiness is the state of being free from sin, a condition made possible by the experience of sanctification. God requires man to live sinless in this present world and provides the means through the shed blood of Christ. See Luke 1:74, 75; 1 Thessalonians 4:7; Hebrews 12:14.

Water Baptism
Water baptism is the act of being immersed in water according to the instructions of Christ. Although this ordinance has no power to wash away sin, it represents the death, burial and resurrection of Christ. Only those who have already been born again are eligible for water baptism. See Matthew 28:19; Mark 1:8-10; John 3:22, 23; Acts 8:12, 36-38; 10:47, 48; 16:33.

Baptism with the Holy Ghost
The baptism with the Holy Ghost which is subsequent to sanctification is the enduement of power for service. This baptism is always accompanied by the evidence of speaking in other tongues as the Spirit gives the utterance. It is the filling of the temple already made clean by sanctification and is a gift of God in answer to the prayer of Christ. Read Matthew 3:11; Luke 24:49-53; Acts 1:4-8.

Speaking in Tongues
Speaking in tongues as the Spirit gives the utterance is the initial, physical evidence of the baptism of the Holy Ghost. This is separate and distinct from the gift of tongues, which is one of the nine gifts of the Spirit. John 15:26. Also read, Acts 2:4; 10:44-46; 19:6.

Full Restoration of the Gifts to the Church
The gifts of the Spirit were set in the Church to be operated by the Spirit according to the will of God. They are manifested through individual members. The gifts are given to the Church and not to individuals. These gifts were all operated in the early Church and were restored to the Church in these last days. See 1 Corinthians 12:1, 7-10, 28, 31; 1 Corinthians 14:1.

Signs Following Believers
Miraculous signs will accompany the work and ministry of true believers. See Mark 16:17-20; Romans 15:18, 19; Hebrews 2:4.

Fruit of the Spirit
The Spirit-filled life will manifest the fruit of the Spirit which is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, and temperance. These virtues are divine in origin and spring from a Spirit-filled heart. See Romans 6:22; Galatians 5:22, 23; Ephesians 5:9; Philippians 1:11.

Divine Healing
The sacrifice of Christ provided not only for the salvation of the souls of men but also for the healing of man's physical ailments. Divine healing is healing accomplished by the power of God and is available to all who believe, the same as salvation. Read Psalms 103:3; Isaiah 53:4, 5; Matthew 8:16, 17; James 5:14-16; 1 Peter 2:24.

The Lord's Supper
The Lord's Supper was instituted by Christ and is a sacred ordinance which we are commanded to observe in commemoration of Christ and His death. Only sinless and consecrated Christians are eligible to partake of this Supper. See Luke 22: 17-20; 1 Corinthians 1 1:23-33.

Washing the Saints' Feet
Feet washing was instituted by Jesus on the night of the Last Supper and is a New Testament ordinance we are enjoined to observe. Its observance was taught by the apostles and practiced by the early Church. See John 13:4-17; 1 Timothy 5:10.

Tithing and Giving
Tithing is the paying of one tenth of our increase into the treasury of the Church. It began with Abraham, continued under the law and received Christ's approval. Giving differs from and is in addition to tithing. Both are part of God's plan to finance His work on earth. Read Genesis 14:18-20; 28:20-22; Malachi 3:10; Matthew 23:23; Luke 1 1:42; 1 Corinthians 1 6:2; 2 Corinthians 9:6-9; Hebrews 7:1-21.

Restitution where Possible
Restitution is the act of restoring something wrongfully taken or the satisfying of one who has been wronged. God requires those who become converted to perform such tasks if at all possible. See Matthew 3:8; Luke 1 9:8, 9; Romans 13:8.

Pre-Millennial Second Coming of Jesus
First, to resurrect the dead saints and to catch away the living saints to meet Him in the air. Read in Matthew 24:27,28; 1 Corinthians 15:51, 52; 1 Thessalonians 4:15-17. ...Second, to reign on earth a thousand years. Read also, Zechariah l4:4, 5; Luke 1:32; 1 Thessalonians 4:14; 2 Thessalonians 1:7-10; Jade 14, 15; Revelation 5:10; 19:11-21;20:4-6.

Ressurrection
All the dead will be resurrected. The righteous dead will be raised in the first resurrection which is at Christ's appearing. The resurrection of the wicked dead will occur after the thousand years reign of Christ on earth. See Isaiah 26: 1 9; Daniel 12:2; John 5:28, 29; Acts 24:15; Revelation 20:5, 6.

Eternal Life for the Righteous
Those who die in the Lord and those who are serving Him when He returns will receive a reward of eternal life. Read in Matthew 25:46; Luke 1 8:30; John 10:28; Romans 6:22; 1 John 5:1 1-13.

Eternal Punishment for the Wicked
The unconverted and the wicked are doomed to eternal punishment, from which there is no escape-no liberation or annihilation. See Matthew 25:41-46; Mark 3:29; 2nd Thessalonians 1:8-9; Revelation 20:10-15; 21:8.

Total Abstinence from all Liquor or Strong Drinks
The Bible expressly forbids the use of intoxicating beverages. Even slight indulgence is not in keeping with the Scriptural standard of holiness. Read Proverbs 20:1; 23:29-32; Isaiah 28:7; 1 Corinthians 5:1 1; 6:10; Galatians 5:21.

Against the Use of Tobacco in Any Form, Opium, Morphine, Etc.
The use of tobacco and the habitual use of narcotics are sinful practices which defile the body, the temple of the Holy Ghost, and is an outward evidence of an impure heart. Read Isaiah 55:2; 1 Corinthians 10:31, 32; 2 Corinthians 7:1; Ephesians 5:3-8; James 1:21.

On Meats and Drinks
The New Testament makes no rigid rule concerning what the Christian shall eat or drink (with the exception of strong drink). We have no right to judge what our brother eats or what he drinks. Read in Romans 14:2-3, 17; 1 Corinthians 8:8; 1 Timothy 4:1-5.

On the Sabbath
The observance of the Sabbath was a requirement of Jewish law and as such was not carried over into the Grace Dispensation. Sunday is not the Sabbath but is merely a day set aside to give special attention to the worship of God. Instead of keeping only the Sabbath day holy, we are required in this dispensation to keep every day holy. The Jewish Sabbath is a type of Christ, who is our rest, rather than the day. See Hosea 2:11; Romans 14:5, 6; Colossians 2:16, 17.

Against Wearing Gold for Ornament
Against wearing gold for ornament or decorations such as finger rings, bracelets, earrings, lockets, etc. Ornaments of precious stones and metals are evidences of a prideful heart and are unbecoming to a child of God. "Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel; but let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price," 1 Peter 3:3-4. Read 1 Timothy 2:9; 1 John 2:16.

Against Belonging to Lodges
The Bible is opposed to the people of God being unequally yoked together with unbelievers; it is opposed to deeds done in secret. Many secret societies require the taking of an oath, which is expressly forbidden in Scriptures. Read Matthew 5:34; John 18:20; 2 Corinthians 6:14-17; James 5:12.

Against Swearing
The taking of an oath is a vain thing and condemned by the Scriptures. An affirmation to the truth of anything is sufficient. Read Matthew 5:34-37; James 5:12.

Against Divorce and Remarriage Evil
Divorce and remarriage constitutes the sin of adultery. The only allowable causes for remarriage are fornication and death. However, fornication is not unfaithfulness or simple adultery, but is a state of being married to another's wife or husband. See Matthew 5:32; 14:3, 4; 19:3-12; Mark 10:12; Luke 16:18; Romans 7:2, 3; 1 Corinthians 5:1-5, 13; 6:9, 13, 16-18; 7:2, 10, 11; Acts 15:28, 29; Revelation 2:20-22.

Explain the difference. Not details of beliefs but the fact that your site say that ares says this........

Sounds good in theory, but seldom was it administered in that way. They were not only a list, but also a measure of faithfulness, not to God nor the word but to a man made organization. They were used as a means of bondage.

I prefer not to list and the against.........rather what I am for

World Mission Outreach Fellowship
World Outreach International Bible College

Doctrines
This is not intended to be a comprehensive statement of faith, but rather a guide to the doctrinal boundaries within which World Mission Outreach Fellowship and World Outreach International Bible College functions. Those who share our spiritual identity generally share the following.

We Believe:
That there is only one God, who has revealed Himself as our Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

In the absolute Lordship and deity of Christ, including His pre-existence, His virgin birth, His sinless life, His atoning death, His bodily resurrection and His eternal return to the earth in glory and power to establish His eternal kingdom.

In the full spiritual authority, the reliability, and the divine inspiration of the bible. That nothing can replace the importance of the Local Church in the program of God. Each local church should be under the immediate sovereignty of the Holy Spirit, and should determine its own character and role in obedience to the will of God.

In the great task of the church, which is, worldwide evangelism
That entrance into the church is through the “new birth”, which is brought about by genuine repentance of sin, confession of faith in Christ as the only Savior, and surrender to Him as Lord.

That membership in the church is signified by joyful participation in its worship, fellowship, sacraments, witness, and by acceptance of its discipline.

That the ministry of the Holy Spirit. That it is an essential component of effective Christian life and witness.

That the church cannot fulfill its mission apart from the five ascension gift ministries that Christ has sent into the world: apostles, prophets, evangelist, pastors and teachers. We accept that it is a part of our task to recognize those people and to assist in equipping them to fulfill their ministry.

That Christ purchased healing for every believer at Calvary, and this healing should be appropriated by faith.

In the reality of Satan, and of the kingdom of darkness over which he reigns, and of the absolute triumph of Christ over the devil and all his works.

That the victorious Christian life is built on a proper understanding and exercise of spiritual authority conveyed to the believer by the gift of righteousness.

In the resurrection of the dead at Christ’s return, in the certainty of God’s judgment, and in the inescapable result of that judgment foretold in the scriptures for the just and the unjust.

The Christian Life
Our view of Christian life is that it should be loving, joyful, affirmative and productive, and our curriculum reflects those positive concepts. We also accept that within the Kingdom of God there is room for rich diversity in custom and style, so we welcome students and fellow believers from different backgrounds. Learning to love one another and to appreciate each other’s differences is a vital aspect of our lives as students and believers.
You cannot effectively love and minister to others when you are obsessed with protecting

and preserving yourself.

Good thought yet the implied theory means nothing. Many in all organizations may imply things in certain ways, but it by no means make it a practice of that organization. Bondage???? Again if you feel COGOP and TCOG are in bondage for having statements of faith so be it. As I said almost all organizations have something of the sort. You could never list all the things you practice but you can give your basic bible beliefs. So to avoid bondage one would have to refrain from ever telling what is right and wrong, since we do not want to be "legalistic" just let all things be ok , work out your own salvation....Ignore Jesus way of handling those who are not living right by Bringing 2-3 witnesses, also let them be as a what??? Heathen...If I was to just say that I would be called a pharisee
There are so many things not in there ,Yes if you live totally opposite of these and after working with that person over a long period of time they could be turned out. Again they can be turned out for many reasons. If one had become a drunk we would attempt to win him back but if they refused they could be turned out. In many organizations if you preach contrary to there basic bible principles they will remove your license and or membership. Matter of fact wasnt Benny Hinn turned out of the assembly of God?

Again if you feel COGOP and TCOG are in bondage for having statements of faith so be it. As I said almost all organizations have something of the sort.

One Love, I mean no offense to you in this -- but you will never see the point Paul and I are trying to make as long as you come from your perspective.

For you, it is vital that we get a specified set of doctrinal beliefs codified, so we can conform our understanding and praxis to that code... which misses the point of Christianity completely in my view.

It is all about RELATIONSHIP. You can have a total misunderstanding about a doctrine and still be in right relationship. You can even hold to a WRONG doctrine and be in right relationship.

Doctrine matters, but it is not ALL that matters.

I've been in the COGOP all my life. I haven't always understood everything that went on. I do believe that God always shows his people, in any organization, things that need to be changed. I believe he shows us these changes only when it is time for you (any organization) to see the light in truth. There is always going to be change anywhere you go, it don't matter in what organization you are in. We are all striving for the same thing. We all need more LOVE for one another. God has really been showing me that we need more LOVE. I also believe that there is going to be change because remember we are not perfect. Not one of any organization is perfect. There are good things in every church if only you look for them.

so you could not go because the 29 teachings were to hard but you would be able to stay with homosexuality and sin???????

I thought I answered this. But I will answer again. I was spiritual immature. I was, although I was raised in a pew, too young and immature. I felt that if I couldn't live up to the church's standards that I might as well just not try at all. Today, I am more mature and grounded in Christ and unless Christ tells me to move, I don't move!

Pastor Gary is right in what he's saying. I remember that jewelry was wrong to wear but SO's that would show off their $500 watches and drive a mercedes. You don't find that hypocritical?

I'm glad that we have a better understanding of the Word today. And I am happy to be a member and ordained minister in the COGOP.
