Tip your mail carrier!!!

Postby Shellie » December 14th, 2007, 2:20 am

Rahab mentioned in another post to tip your mail carrier this Christmas. In light of her gentle reminder to love on those that service you, I thought I would include this link from my local area. It is heartwarming. The article is somewhat lengthy but read to the end. You won't be disappointed.

The following is a fella from my neck of the woods. He is a mail carrier and noticed the lawns that were overgrown along his route. Most of his folk are elderly.

So, what did he do? He started showing up on weekends and mowing their lawns for free. The US PO once tried to switch his route to a better one and he turned them down.

Read the whole story here:

Thank you Shellie . . .

When you stop and think about it, there are may people that you have contact with everyday that go beyond "their job" to help in small ways. The Christmas holidays are a perfect time for us to remember them, to bless them for their blessings to us.

Thank you Shellie. That is very nice. In our postal magazine we get each month, there are stories of mail carriers all across the nation rescuing people from fires and finding the elderly who have fallen in their home and could not contact anyone. I have had a few occasions to assist the people on my route. I have also prayed for, with and been prayed for by people on my route. I try to let the Lord use me to touch someone's life when there is a need. Thanks again.

That's a nice story Shellie. Unfortunately, our mailman can't be bothered to get off his tail and walk 10 feet to our porch, so he shoves too big packages into our mailbox, crushing them. Tip? I think not.

Call the postmaster and fuss about it.

My dad was a postal worker for years. And the postmaster here did not like getting any bad reports on anyone.

I'm with DaJudge. I had a box full of computer parts that I was waiting for, and I returned home from work on a rainy day to find the box left outside in the rain, nearly ruined. I was able to salvage everything, fortunately.

At least in Oregon where I used to live, they had the consideration to give you a yellow slip in the mail saying "We Missed You!" and held the box at the post office for you. Not so here in Missouri.

So I will saunter up to their front porch and give them a Christmas basket with three items...

- A lump of coal
- A flaming sack of poo
- A Christmas card wishing them "Manifold Blessings"

The first two "gifts" they might not like so much, but I'm sure that third one will really motivate them to help me out a bit and start giving me those yellow slips when I'm not home.

Mail carriers in my area WONT WALK THREE STEPS UP THE PORCH to pick up outgoing mail if they dont have anything to deliver.

I called the Local PO. And was told: "We only deliver mail. We don't pick it up if we arent delivering"

No tip from me.

Response: I'd take that a step higher with names. I think that could be against he law.

It is ridiculous to think someone who doesn't get mail can't send mail.

What in the world are all those flags on the mail boxes for???
What we need here is a good revival! lol

Exactly, the red flags are the first thing I thought of.

I asked the guy on the Phone how long this policy has been and was told sarcasticly "Since the Pony express."

I know the postmaster here very well. Knowing him as I do, I also know that complaining to him will do very little good.

This is true. We are told that if we have no mail for a house, we do not have to go up and pick up their mail. That is what the blue collection boxes are for. I believe there is a note on them explaining that. However, I DO go and pick up their mail. I try to treat my customer's mail as I would want my mail to be treated. If you are expecting a package and do not want it left on your porch, write a note stating that and tape it to your mailbox.
