Ok so the season's been over for our beloved Brantley County Herons, we didn't make it out of Region 2AA to the playoffs this year, but last night I got to see what was probably one of the best high school football games I've ever seen. The Georgia High School Association AAAA State Championship was played about 30 miles west of here as our neighbors, the Ware County Gators took on the Northside Eagles from Warner Robins. The Eagles were a HUGE favorite for the game, as they overshadowed the Gators. What the Gators lacked in size they made up for with speed and determination. The Gators lead at halftime and again going into the 4th quarter. Unfortunately with about 5 minutes left on the clock the Eagles went up 20-14, the Gators fought a hard game and didn't give up, with about a minute left on the clock the Eagles managed to get the last few inches they needed for a first down to seal the Gators fate.
I've got to admit it was very hard to find myself cheering "Go Gators!", but last night I was.
