Found money, called treasure troves in IRS lingo, is still taxable. $182K is going to put someone above the 35% bracket. So, he really found about, what, $119K?

Dolfan,

Now that you bring it up, how much of the winnings would Uncle Sam get from someone who wins $1 million? :D

Hey pal, let's hook up. I am a relic buff also. I know of several nice sites in Mississippi. We need to get together and swap hunting tips and trips.

I have sold the largest part of mine and my father's collection, but still have a few nice items.

I'll see what I can "dig-up" ;) sorry

I've made more money on the deal than I have artifacts to show for it, but not a bad trade. The land owner was a civil was NUT and wanted almost everything i found, from rifle barrels to shot. Even found a wagon wheel hoop and he wanted that. Tons of US and CS uniform buttons too. I got to keep a little of it, but as I said, I enjoyed the money from it too.

There are places in chickamauga where the Park Rangers will let you go with a metal detector, but it is so picked over I doubt you'd find anything of worth.

Rumor has it there is a sunken flat in the River somewhere downtown near the aquarium with some ammo and other munitions on it, but no one has found it yet
