PSAT

Postby Penny » December 17th, 2007, 11:12 am

OK I give up trying to understand this paper Lindsey came home with.

She took this test in Oct. It a practice test for the SAT

They told us most kids do not do well on the first psat they took.

They score 20 to 80

Lindsey got 33 in critical reading
37 in Mathematics
33 Writing Skills

And the section index was 103

then It saids

Percentile compares your performance with collage bound Juniors
she got a 12

I know we got some teachers here, Is this good?

She now can take a class on line to help her get a better score when we re takes this test in???? she forgot when she had to take it again..

A 12th percentile score means her score is better than 11 of every 100 students who took the test. 88 out of every 100 scored higher than her.

Her score is equivalent to a 1030 on the SAT (it's equivalent to a 700 on the old version). What kind of schooling is she looking to do?

I think what you meant is the 12th percentile means that she scored better than every 88 out of a 100. At least that was my understanding. I don't know maybe things are much different than when I was in school. Or maybe I just misunderstand.

Nope.

No forestwalker was correct in the way he stated it.

She has some studying ahead of her. But don't sweat it. She'll be best off at a community college to start with and SAT's are not required there. The admission office here at the university where I work would shoot me if they knew this, but I recommend to every student I talk with that they do their first two years at a community college. It makes financial sense, of course, but they also get a far superior education there.
