Ron, I was kind of teasing, but, hey, Mama didn't raise no fools!

We're preparing to do joint services in a school, but our buildings are used by two other congregations, so we can't strip our tech gear -- we are essentially having to duplicate everything.

We're seeking to acquire (through purchases and, since you asked, donations):
• A new projector, 4000 lums+ (Billy Broach is helping us with pricing on that)
• A big, portable projection screen (Billy, again)
• We have an "extra" 16 channel Mackie sound board, but it is a non-powered board, so we need an amplifier for that.
• A set of 5 or 6 vocal mics for the worship teams/cables/stands
• A 100' snake with stage box for the 16 channel board
• Eventually, some form of in-ear or headphone monitors, to eliminate the problem of stage wedges (and the need to lug them around) - my dream monitor system is the Aviom paired with in-ears... someday... when we get piles of cash!
• Portable equipment rack(s) like roadies take on tour would make portable church easier
• A short range FM transmitter for Spanish simultaneous translation (I think the folks in Washington State have experience with this in State meetings)

...and on it goes.

Can I give a praise report?

In today's mail I received a generous donation from Paul's organization, and (I hope he stuck around to see this) ONE LOVE sent a smaller, but hugely appreciated donation. God has some wonderful people in all kinds of churches and organizations, and we are so thankful for those who have shared in the adventure with money, discounts, and contributions.

The constant struggle of each muscian wanting ther cake and eat it too ,cannot be done with wedges. They want to hear the Piano, Worship leader and themselves. . Most times if you let the musciains have there way you can shut the house speakers down.

Preach it brother! Amen and AMEN! That is the truth!!!!!!!!

If you are struggling with wedge monitors and have problems getting everyone's mix, I recommend ear phones for the musicians and wedges for the vocals.

My expert (Master's in acustical engineering) says that all the money people are spending on the ear buds is coming back to haunt them.

Just letting you know there are much easier and less expensive ways to do things well...Invest in having a good sound tech to come and tune the room and set all the sound properly. I think that is a far better investment....but I have only "limited" experience

Is your issue the actual in-ear devices, or the lack of wedges; two different issues. What we experience is pitchy vocals when the wedge mix goes muddy from every player asking for...
"More of me in the monitors!"

I have seen this problem with even the biggest name performers... pointing toward the ceiling while glaring at the sound engineer.

Been there/done that. Had the guy who does sound for the biggest concert venues in Honolulu tune the room, and he says the wedges are the main problem. Like the other sound guys here have stated, if you get the monitors set the way the musicians want them, you might as well unplug the mains.

Ron, surely you have no issue with each individual having the ability to control their own monitor mix; that is almost ideal.

I sent you an email the day it arrived... ??? You didn't get that?

The Lord has not (yet) completed the process of provision, but I am confident.

N o Gary , no issue at all.....just know that our budgets don't generally allow for those kinds of "diva treats".

I worked for 4 decades with wedges in every concievable venue, with every combination of musician/vocals....never a real problem if you are working with people who hear the "entire sound".

When I hear..."more me in the monitor", I generally walk to that area and see if they are trying to blend or become soloists...lol

Seriously, the guy who talks about the ear buds owns one of the largest sound and tech companies in the country and he says that they are going down hill fast...That is why he always runs wires to be able to go back and add wedges later.....because they will need them eventually.

Did your tech talk about the placement of the wedges??? Maybe that was the issue...
We work with antiquated junk here for the most part....and the best answer we came up with was earphones for the band.....wedges for the vocals.....works good on stage...now for the house.....we are in great need but I think in Jan that problem is going to be solved too.
