reflecting on campaigns of yesteryear

Postby Full Quiver » December 21st, 2007, 4:18 pm

In the Presidential race of 2000 George W. Bush claimed to be the compassionate conservative. He mesmerized the base, the GOP, and many independents alike to go on and skate to the nomination and the presidency. He said that the Clinton admin. had destroyed the military, the morale of it's enlistees, and their families. He brought us numbers of how they were on food stamps, welfare, losing their homes, and overall financially destroyed but he was going to change that. Has he? I have no hard numbers but was looking for discussion considering that we are in the midst of a campaign where politicians will surely feed and play on our emotions.

100% true IMHO.

Apparently. I pastor a lot of military people, and as far as I know none of them are on Food Stamps, they drive nicer cars than we do, and their morale is so high a lot of them reenlist.
"God is excited to show you mercy. He rises to give you His compassion." (Isaiah 30:18)

"For surely, O LORD, you bless the righteous;
you surround them with your favor as with a shield." (Psalm 5:12)

I live in the largest navy area in the world and they are doing well. Not all but many are making good money.

Now he did say that and has not done anything but give us words. I like Bush but he has failed on being a conservative. I get Full Quivers point and the basis of his point is correct and that is what has been done. Yet clinton did just about destroy our military

I never voted for Clinton so I cannot be called a supporter but he only followed in the footsteps of George H. Walker Bush. Sometimes we get this military thing mixed up. Most people that enlist do not do so to make a career out of the military. Most are looking to either travel, get their education paid for, grow up/mature a bit, stay out of prison, and of course serve their country proudly as they personally fill called to do, etc. Reagan built up the military in an attempt to outspend and flex our muscles more than the Soviets. This sure seemed to work. After the Berlin wall fell, the USSR dissolved, etc. then there was no reason to have such a massive military. My bet is that if Reagan could have continued as President for another 8 years he would have downsized the military also.
My point was not that the military was downsized but that the people are not paid well. They were never paid well and sure aren't paid well today. Not all are on food stamps or welfare but many are. In Hawaii military families may actually be middle class but not so much in other parts of the country.

As I said Im come form a navy/army/airforce area. Our economy is very much based on the military. But I think they are way under paid. Here there are many that have a lot of money, big houses but these are not the ones on the ground fighting , they are the ones who are underpaid. I cant tell you how many jobs we do for commanders, captians and all kinds of high ups in the military but you are correct the ones that are under paid are the ones who did not inlist for a life long career. None the less they are the ones in the most danger and the ones dying.

Full Quiver you are not a hilary or obama fan are ya? :lol:

No Sir One Love, I am not!

I like Thompson, Paul, Tancredo, Hunter and probably in that order but now Tancredo has left the race. I might could vote for Romney if I were left with that choice.
