Roofing Billionaire Dies After Falling Through Roof at His Home

BELOIT, Wisconsin — The 91st richest man in the United States, a roofing company billionaire, died after falling through his garage's roof, local authorities said Friday.

Ken Hendricks, 66, was checking on construction of the roof at his home Thursday night when he fell through, Rock County Sheriff's Department commander Troy Knudson said. He suffered massive head injuries, according to his company, ABC Supply Co.

Hendricks was pronounced dead at an Illinois hospital early Friday morning, Winnebago County coroner Sue Fiduccia said. An autopsy is planned for Friday.

Hendricks was the founder, chairman and chief executive officer of his company, the self-described largest wholesale distributor of roofing in the U.S. The company does about $3 billion (euro2 billion) in business a year.

Hendricks had a net worth of $3.5 billion (euro2 billion) in September, according to Forbes magazine. That made him the 91st richest person in the U.S., according to the magazine's ranking of American billionaires.

But he seemed unfazed by his wealth.

"It doesn't make any difference to me; I can't spend it," Hendricks said in an interview with Inc.com in September 2006. "I'd have to sell the company, and I'll sell the company over my dead body."

Hey guys - we live in Beloit. This guy was an incredible giver to the community and to charities. He was known to help on both a large (public) scale and a small (very private) scale. This town is mourning his loss.

That is very sad but I admire his giving back. SO many dont do that. I do not agree politically with Warren Buffet but he as well lives a very conservative spending lifestyle compared to his means. Many TV evangelist live way more of a flashy lifestyle then he does.
Anyway I wil be in prayer for this family, pretty Ironic.

Why did you have to take the opportunity to "lower cut" TV evangelists? :?

I have an evangelist friend (not TV) who is a multi-millionaire by inheritance. He lives somewhat flashy compared to most of us on Jude 2, but he is a great man who loves God. To spend ones own money for ones own desires does not make them bad people. [-X

That is ironic!! He died doing what he loves, at least. How many of us get to say that??

That's right, didn't think of that.

Brings up this question: What do you love so much that, to do it, meant that at some point you die doing it ... and you know that it will happen while you're doing that, you just don't know when???? :?:

I think you read entirely to much into that. I have nothing against those who are wealthy or have nice things. I strive and work very hard to better my self. I own a buisness myself. I was getting at the fact that one of the richest men in the world gives a lot and lives less flashy lifestyles then many tv evangelist. I am refering to those who seem to be so righteous but are living extremley prideful lifestyles. I have a problem with someone getting 40 million a year from a ministry they claim the money is going to feed the poor and to spread the gospel. Also make claims that they recieve no money from the giving. If ones says hey I make a very high salary off of this and did not hide it under tax exemption that is fine. There is nothing wrong with having nice things but I do believe in being modest. Someone who is a minister and claims to go all over the world but cant stay in a room that is not the most expensive there is, because they dont want to be around the average "folk" is wrong. I have many friends that are millionares that are good honest hearted christians. Have nice homes and cars but does a lot ot help people and there church.
I am very against the thought one must struggle to be a christian. I ,as I said work hard that my wife can stay home , some think I have money becasue I have 14 employees, I assure you I do not, But I hope to increase continually. So I can be blessed but most of all be a blessing to others. :D

read last post please paul. It is a slam to ""so called ministers" I dont believe getting rich off of a ministry and living like hollywood is right. Thats my personal view. I have more then some people and others would consider me to have much. It is all relative, but going on air and raising money to go around the world supposedly to spread the gospel and feed the poor, yet take 40 million in personal family expenses are under a false pretense. I understand if one takes a salary from a ministry and invest and makes it rich, fine but would you not give to others if you had 40 million a year coming in? If you feel telling peopel please send money to help us and you will be healed and all the while they have a 7 million dollar house in a few states with millions in jets and other private things is ok so be it. I disagree I do not feel one should get rich off of preaching the gospel. I may be worng but I feel a minister is a servant, if he chooses to do other things or invest and gets rich , hey thats more he could do for his ministry and family.

you are planting churches would you want them to pay you a salary of 6 milliona year or would you rather use that t further the gospel? BTW I am going ot PM you later about a question I ahve I think you may be able ot assist me on may God bless

I just do not see the connection.

I personally ( and I mean personally ) know of t.v evangelist that are mention many times here who have given ten's of millions to evangelism and missions, millions more to small miistries here in the states for rehab, centers. Drug rehab and so many other areas....but they seldom mention it. I have a friend who was the mission director for one of the larger tv ministries that constantly is getting slammed. I know what they do for missions and it ain't chump change. More than some entire denominations give. But that doesn't make the news. It's not tabloid material.

Personally I do not need a jet. Wouldn't mind a nice tail dragger. Good to drop tracts, food and other needed items.

Its amazing that I always hear about the t.v. guys jets and no one ever mentions Earnest Angsley's 747

So I return this thread to the original content about a riche roofer who was killed.....I am sorry for his family and their lost.

Look forward to your pm

I apologize if I jumped to conclusions. It wasn't personal. :D I just have a pet peeve about ministers and/or Christians being frowned upon for having money.

one love wrote:There is nothing wrong with having nice things but I do believe in being modest.

I believe in being modest also, but modesty among the wealthy is a relative term. What is modesty to someone who has $1 million, $20 million, or $3 billion? Someone who has $20 million can afford to live in a $800,000 home, I can't... yet, it's relative, I live in a nice home with acreage that others might not be able to afford either, etc. Geographical location plays a part in value also. My home and property would actually be worth $400K in some areas of the U.S. :D

Someone who has several million dollars can drive a Dodge Viper, I can't... yet again, it's relative, I drive a truck that others might not could afford. I think you get my train of thought. :D The bottom line is that we filter modesty based upon our own level of income/lifestyle and that just isn't a fair scale of judgement, IMO.

to let you know I agree with this post one hundred percent. I am very bothered the way people are looked at who have money. If your home is over 1600 sq. ft. it would be over 400k here

  I simply have a hard time with the ministry getting millions off of preaching, maybe im wrong but that bothers me. I am a pastor and own a buisness, well I have to  But would anyway I just like to continue to do things.
Paul I am aware of much giving by other churches like world harvest etc. My point i guess is like i said getting rich off of the ministry seems backwards to me.

Again based on this thread I am praying still for this family very sad.
