Watchman Nee wrote a book called "The Latent Power Of The Soul", in which the various disciplines from India and China, including Yoga, are viewed as attempts to tap into the power of the soul that humans were cut off from by God after the Fall of Man in the Garden.

As such, Nee said to stay away from them, they are ways to access a power God doesn't want us to have.

As far as the appearance of evil goes, how evil would a union between Yoga Christianity appear to the church in your community, and what does Paul say about meat sacrificed to idols if it offends your brethren?

There are various (contradicting?) points in your post! I'm not sure what the gist is.. I do get the last part about the appearance of evil.

Personally, I prefer to lose weight and get healthy with Yogurt.

It can't be Hindu cause it's made with milk.

All the exercise that's involved is warming up by getting up to get it out of the fridge. Cool down period consists of licking the spoon and tossin' it in the sink.

Why do you guys have to make everything so difficult?

Hey, that's my kind of exercise! I prefer cheesecake though 'cause it's more filling. Sticks to your ribs!

Indirect outreach

Using/renting your facilities for yoga classes does not constitute attending church does it?

Actually, what I was referring to was that people who don't attend church might attend these classes, and might see something on the bulletin board that might interest them. Also, since our church is in a new location, it might help make some people more aware of it.

God bless,

I've been thinking about taking Rex Kwon Do.

I won't participate in eastern religious practices; whether for losing weight or for "self discipline" or "self defense". I know people that would "stumble", if they knew I was.

As an adult, I am pretty sure that I would not be affected by the religious and eastern philosophical issues. But I know many that wold be. there is a "spark of truth", and so it is pounced on and they don't realize how it really does affect their Christian walk.

With that said, I did let my daughter take te kwon do lessons. we simply had a talk with her after every lesson and discussed what was being said (as much as an 8 year old can discuss).

so is it wrong? yes, it is for me. is it wrong for you? can't say, I am not you. :)

The first part is a sarcasm...
Why is it that bad decisions seem to make to most interesting testimonies?

A couple of the local mega churches around here have started having yoga classes. One of my friends asked how I felt about it (she is a new Christian). I told her to check it out & see what practices are being taught. She is hooked on the class & is out of physical therapy (former back injury). The main point during the meditation...listing all the ways God has blessed you & loved you during your life. Sounds pretty good to me...I just haven't had the chance to check out the classes yet.

Gotcha.
About the Watchman Nee part, my thinking is that any power associated is not from God but a counterfeit. That may be what he was saying, but I wasn't sure.

If I understand the gist of your direction here, I would be careful. There is no limit to things that will make people interested in attending church. One church did the "mud wrestling" thing... :D

The sad truth is that this is ALREADY going on inside.... just use stronger stinky stuff rather than mud.

Oopps. Did I say that outloud?

No, but it does have to do with Napoleon Dynamite, which, I might add, is apparently laced with lots of subtle Mormon jokes/gags that I never caught until I read about it one night on Wikipedia.

From my understanding of your comment, you have misunderstood my direction. I am not willing to allow "anything" in or at our church for the sake of people being interested in attending. If any of the membership, myself being included, feel that it violates some biblical precept, it will not be allowed.

God bless,
Bro. Ryan

P.S. I can think of a little brother that I would love to be doing some throw downs in the mud on.
