Your church use of the web

Postby Pastor Gary » May 3rd, 2004, 8:34 pm

Does your church utilize the internet as a tool?
How effectively?
In what ways? (Website? E-mail list? Formatted e-mail newsletter(s)? Use of Instant Messenger communications? Posting of PDF sermon notes or other info for download? others?)

Please elaborate.
Please take the poll, also.

Most of our congregation are rural and NOT on the internet. Most of our youth ARE however on the internet. Our website is geared to youth and also has many pictures. The pictures are an enticement for potential new members. In fact, we recently had one young family move to Waynesburg, KY from New Hampshire based on the information they saw on our website.

Back when I had time

Postby Paully_44 » May 4th, 2004, 3:46 am

Back when I had more free time, I designed and kept our churches website up to date weekly. Our site was not extremely fancy as I built it all in HTML code and had it hosted via Angelfire.com which is a free webhosting company. On it I had a place where people could place prayer requests, see a schedule of our service, had a pic and short biography of all the leadership, even had Youthcamp applications for people to download. If we had any church event, I would take pictures and post those as well.

Then, work & family took more of my time and our website was put on the back burner.

Recently, our church has begun to take on a different mentality for outreach and I am planning on getting it up to date and modernized. Recently purchased our domain name & will have it hosted from a web hosting company.

Guilty. I setup the site and had great hopes, but realized (too late) I put too many eggs in one basket by being the only one who could update the site.

I am in the process of a redesign using CMS (post nuke) which will allow me to admin the site, but give others the pleasure (responsibility) of keeping their sections updated.

Building a web page for me is easy - keeping it updated is the hard part. I have been doing better with our singles ministry page at Peerless. Take a look at it if you want. I tried to make it like a newspaper - USA Today style.

I like it.

I didn't realize that you attended Peerless Road. I have cousins that attend there (Hal & Leanna Lutz).

PG

We have a website and I post Revival notices and I use it to create my monthly report to print out. It is probably used more for Camp than anything else. People can download camper and staff applications and view a slideshow from last years camps. Campers can also fill out an application online, but they still have to mail it in.

They are great folks and hard workers in our church.

I do a daily weblog of a few verses of scriptures, a devotinal and a link to an online sermon all surrounding a single topic and e-mail the web-page to everyone who has given me their e-mail adress in church.

God Bless- Sam Smith

And even smaller. Isn't Kyle there son? I know Kyle from camp. He attended our church some back in the fall since he is near by attending MTSU. Well, maybe I should say he is registered at MTSU, I am not sure how much he is attending. Funny kid. :D

Thought I'd stick a link to something new we are trying on our church web site.
Here is a link to our pastor's "message of the month"
It's a free download.
http://www.newlifecogop.com/messageofthemonth.htm
The challenge came from Gerald. (Good idea man! )
Anyway, I think this message will minister to you - please feel free to offer input after you've heard it.
God Bless.
