restless brain syndrome...

Postby RamboPreacher » January 4th, 2008, 7:09 pm

I was wondering if restless leg syndrome leads to restless brain syndrome, and if lateral thinking is part of the symptoms.
Thanks, Brent "RamboPreacher" Hoefling

I think if you have too much time on your hands, it does!

Hey who "invented" restless leg syndrome, anyway? It sounds made up to me. :D

Nope it's not made up, Rose has it, and off the meds, she'll kick all night long. We are both heavy sleepers, and were diagnosed with Sleep Apnea (I stop breathing about 25-30 times per hour during sleep, waking up just enough to start again each time, preventing deep sleep and good rest) Rose isn't as bad, but when they did the tests, they did pick up her kicking all night, and now that she's on the meds, it has helped, and we can tell a difference.

Bill, Sam had severe sleep apnea and had started falling asleep at times while driving or during the day.(One time, sitting on the platform during Sunday morning service! But don't tell him I said that. That was during a slow song. :D)
Then, he had his tonsillectomy and adenoids removed. Now, his blood pressure is back down to normal, he is sleeping normally, and without the apnea or snoring. It has made such a huge difference. They are doing this surgery more now for adults, (laser surgery) it is much safer. I am so thankful to God Sam had this surgery, he is like a new person. He actually wakes up super early and makes breakfast for everyone.

Maybe it's just gas. My brain farts regularly.

Sleep Apnea

Postby Messianic Believer » January 7th, 2008, 6:55 pm

not wanting to hijack the thread, but I was just diagnosed with severe sleep apnea about 2 months ago. My Dr. ordered a sleep study because I was never rested even after 8-9 hrs sleep, and was a heavy snorer (is that a word?).

Results - my oxygen sats dropped as low as 63% because of it. They ordered a cpap machine and after a couple of weeks adjusting to wearing the mask, I sleep great, no snoring, and wake up refreshed and good for the whole day.

You might want to have a study done and if required, get the cpap (one with a humidifier). It can literally be a life saver!

I have to force myself to think about nothing to get to sleep. Or my brain will keep going and going and going.

Yes my wife and I both have these now, and I can tell a real difference (I have gone without it a night or two, while traveling (ran off and left it) or just tired and fell asleep before putting it on) and you can tell a BIG difference.

As for surgery, there are different types of Sleep apnea, some can be caused by the tonsils and adenoids, so removing them can help, but not for all. There is a surgery specificly for Sleep Apnea, but our doctor explained it is very painful, and the success rate is about 50/50, so most just go with the machines. I was a little concerned about camp, and how the boys would be (in the mask I look rather odd, but then I do without it too!) but I showed it to them, and explained "for those that were in my cabin last year, the good news is I don't snore with this thing!" so it went over fine.

exactly. ever catch yourself counting the bumps in the rough plaster or the holes in the ceiling tiles, etc when trying to think about "nothing". Nothing is a pretty difficult attainment for "rest".

The only way I can sleep with the TV is on Sunday afternoons.

Rambo.. oh yea. I call it wandering.. then back to blank. wandering.... then back to blank. I typically just empty/center my mind by pondering on the infinite almighty God.

Teach.. I can use the TV also.. but I don't like being hooked on anything.. so I do the above when I can.

I never just "fall" asleep. It takes a dedicated effort. Forcing myself as still as possible. My mind is to active.
