Now we're talking

Now here's something -- I am far more concerned about the influence of Obama's radical UCC Pastor than about any Indonesian Jr. High he attended.

His pastor is, IMHO, a radical racist in perspective, and that is likely a huge influence on Mr. O's thinking.
"God is excited to show you mercy. He rises to give you His compassion." (Isaiah 30:18)

"For surely, O LORD, you bless the righteous;
you surround them with your favor as with a shield." (Psalm 5:12)

From their website.

We are a congregation which is Unashamedly Black and Unapologetically Christian... Our roots in the Black religious experience and tradition are deep, lasting and permanent. We are an African people, and remain "true to our native land," the mother continent, the cradle of civilization. God has superintended our pilgrimage through the days of slavery, the days of segregation, and the long night of racism. It is God who gives us the strength and courage to continuously address injustice as a people, and as a congregation. We constantly affirm our trust in God through cultural expression of a Black worship service and ministries which address the Black Community.

The Pastor as well as the membership of Trinity United Church of Christ is committed to a 10-point Vision:

A congregation committed to ADORATION.
A congregation preaching SALVATION.
A congregation actively seeking RECONCILIATION.
A congregation with a non-negotiable COMMITMENT TO AFRICA.
A congregation committed to BIBLICAL EDUCATION.
A congregation committed to CULTURAL EDUCATION.
A congregation committed to the HISTORICAL EDUCATION OF AFRICAN PEOPLE IN DIASPORA.
A congregation committed to LIBERATION.
A congregation committed to RESTORATION.
A congregation working towards ECONOMIC PARITY.
Click here to read about Dr. Wright’s talking points for Trinity United Church of Christ its Web site and the Black Value System.

How can Obama be true to the US when he is afflilated with a church that has a non-negotiable commitment to Africa??

Rahab, I got this as a forward from a friend of mine.
She said, that in order to be a member of this church you had to be black.
I couldn't find anything that said this on this link.. was wondering if you did. Or maybe someone did. And.. somehow I over looked it. I looked several times at the different links from that site...nothing.

Brenda;

Read the first paragraph of Rahab's quote from their website. I think any color other than black would make their congregation rather speckled.

Can you IMAGINE the media thrashing a church would receive if they made statements like,

"We are a congregation which is Unashamedly White," (though thousands of them are) and Unapologetically Christian..."

"Our roots in the White religious experience and tradition are deep, lasting and permanent. We are an Anglo people, and remain true to our native European lands."

"We constantly affirm our trust in God through cultural expression of a White worship service and ministries which address the White Community."

through cultural expression of a White worship service

Translation: A congregation that should not have tamborines.

Your right Mister Ed

Thanks for pointing that out. I over looked that fine line. :roll:

Here we, in the COGOP as a lot of congregations; want and have mix races.
I can't believe that there would be a congregation (but here is one) that would over step the race line so explicit.

I wonder how it would set with them if a group of unblacks were to go a few times to their service meetings.. think they'd have a handshake ready? :lol:

I would not put too much stock in that "10 Point Vision." I worked with a young black man that came out of this church, and his beliefs were not exactly in line with the words posted on the website. For one thing, he claimed that "black people" were actually the real Hebrews. He had been taught that blacks were the direct descendants of Jacob, and that white people were descended from Esau. He claimed that when Esau left Canaan he went to the Caucasus mountains and that's why white people are "Caucasians." He also believed that Jesus was not a Jew, but was a black man. His line of reasoning here was that Joseph and Mary would not have been able to hide Jesus in Egypt if he wasn't black. Now I can't say that these are the official teachings of this church or not, but it is a sample of what someone in that church is teaching. The words on a website are one thing, and the words coming from the pulpit seem to be quite different.
