Churches in metro Los Angeles area?

Postby ktfreepiano » January 7th, 2008, 12:55 pm

I have accepted a new position with Pepperdine University just north of Los Angeles (actually in Malibu!) and was wondering if anyone could recommend some strong churches in the area. I'm leaving a very strong church in the Memphis area where I have served for the past 8 1/2 years. Thanks.

What kind of church?
For the truth that lies at the heart of theology is not something there to be discovered, but something, or rather someone, to whom we must surrender. The mystery of faith is not ultimately something that invites our questioning, but something that questions us.

If I were in that area

If I were in that area I would definitely at least check out Francis Chan's ministry. Francis is one of my favorite teachers, with right heart priorities.

Check him out with this video at http://www.juststopandthink.com/

Met him. He's the real deal.

I've been in Memphis for 2 years. Where have you been going to church?

I've been at Abundant Grace Ministries (formerly the East Memphis COGOP). If you haven't already checked it out, I would highly recommend it. It's a congregation of about 100 members that is growing and is one of the most loving congregations I have ever encountered. You can get more information (possibly a bit out of date, however) by visiting the website at www.agracememphis.com

A good friend of mine lives in the Palisades, we were visiting him this spring and drove to the Pepperdine campus.... beautiful.

He attends the Presbyterian church and loves it there.

Without hesitation, I would attend The Dream Center with Matthew Barnett. This church is for real and has active ministry, no fluff here.
