My high school basketball coach

Postby pastorables » February 17th, 2008, 4:03 pm

Malcolm Kuykendall was my high school basketball coach. This is an interesting read. (Malcolm is on the left in the picture.)

Kuykendall Brothers Receive Service Award

Image

On May 3, 2007, twin brothers who both received Bachelor of Science in Education degrees in 1970 from Delta State University and are currently serving as Superintendents of Mississippi school districts were honored with Service Awards for Outstanding Contributions to Education in Mississippi at the Annual Leadership Celebration. The parallels only begin there.

Malcolm and Milton Kuykendall have incredible similarities in their personal and professional lives. The brothers have each been married (will be 37 years in June for Milton and in July for Malcolm) to teachers...TWIN sisters, Jean and Jane. They each have two children who are married to educators and have seven grandchildren between them.
They both have served as basketball coaches and were featured in Sports Illustrated in 1983 for being the first brothers to win a high school state championship in the same year! Malcolm was inducted into the Mississippi Coaches Hall of Fame in 2000 and the Delta State University Coaches Hall of Fame in 2001.

Both have also served as high school principals and both have been named Principal of the Year! Malcolm is currently serving as the Superintendent of Tishomingo County School District and Milton is Superintendent of Desoto County School District. Both are active in multiple Mississippi professional organizations for school administrators.

Delta State University officials stated they were extremely proud to honor two of their finest graduates of the College of Education who have made and are continuing to make major contributions to education in Mississippi, Malcolm and Milton Kuykendall.
