One of the national sports talk guys (can't remember which one) said Georgia has the best team on paper and probably will on the field, but has the most brutal road schedule of any team in the NCAA. Alabama was ranked as having the second hardest, I believe.

I read the same thing on ESPN..

Georgia plays at South Carolina on Sept. 13 and at Arizona State on Sept. 20 before returning home to face Alabama and Tennessee. Before the season finale against Georgia Tech, the Bulldogs play four straight SEC road games: at LSU on Oct. 25, the annual game against Florida in Jacksonville on Nov. 1, at Kentucky on Nov. 8 and at Auburn on Nov. 15.

If they make it through their schedule without loosing any games than they are without a doubt the best team in the Nation and really doesn't have to play for the NC. They should just be given it.

It's going to be brutal..

These pre-season polls are a joke. The only thing they are good for is for debates on boards such as Jude2.

In my opinion the first ranking should not be until the after the last week of September. Remember last year Michigan ranked #5 lost to App. St. and Oregon in back to back weeks and was no where to be found after that.
If I were to read, much less answer, all the attacks made on me, this shop might as well be closed for business. I do the very best I know how, the very best I can, and I mean to keep doing so until the end. If the end brings me out right, what is said against me won't amount to anything. If the end brings me out wrong, ten angels swearing I was right will make no difference." -Abraham Lincoln

I agree. All it does is protect teams with weak schedules that receive high spots on the early polls.

Just like WVa against Pitt!

I couldn't resist.

I agree Pastor Rob. My fear is to much hype on Ga and they choke. I pray not, we need a championship.

What does Pitt/WVU have to do with pre-season polls?

I think it was 2000 or 01 that Sports Illustrated had the Oregon State Beavers on their cover proclaiming them to be their preseason #1 and would run the table for a national title.

Funny thing was, they forgot to realize Chad Johnson and Houshmandzadeh left for the NFL, the Beavs had no receiving corps, Jonathan Smith reverted to form, and they only went 5-6 that year.

As long as there are boards like this, with guys (a few gals) like us, discussing all the pre-season junk, then the polls will never wait till the end of September to do a ranking.

We have just come through the big signing period and we have ranked teams as to have they have done and High School players as 5 star or whatever and they have yet to play a down.

Reminds me of when I was being recruited to play baseball in college and my coach who was recruiting me after I told him there was nothing I couldn't do (such a cocky 18 year old kid). He said this, "Anyone can talk a good game, it's played between the white lines!"

Only Maryland and WVU recruited Steve Slaton, LSU wanted Pat White to be a DB and I'm sure you guys have stories about guys who have attended your school.

What was the QB that went to ND and Beano Cook stated he would win 3 Heisman's before he left ND?

He was so good I can't even remember his name. So the story goes.
