I respectfully suggest that your view of the current climate in COGOP is less accurate than you think, and, without knowing which ten churches, I'd say the eight old-school churches you know don't look anything like what I have seen represented in recent Assemblies. I see lots of NORMAL Christians, enjoying the changes.

Response: I agree and not just because I am familiar with more than ten churches, but also, we as a church have already made the turn rather than having just started. Those who remain in the 1900's are struggling to catch up. Or they just isolate themselves and act, imagine, deceive themselves into believing that change has not and is not happening.
What we need here is a good revival! lol

You are correct Scooter! After the GA of 2004, I had a long time older member come in and tell me that nothing had changed concerning membership. I didn't understand why they would want to deceive themselves into believing that change had not happened, especially when they had a daughter who had just entered a 1st marriage to a divorced man, but I witnessed and heard the deceit in first person.

"NORMAL CHRISTIANS" meaning if they believe the old path way they are not, or did i respectfully mis read PG, not trying to say you meant something you may not have just curious

FQ I am not offended in that manner i simply responded to a post the way it hit me, not mad at ya :D But however fill free to call there are some things I want to talk with you about that have nothing to do with this thread, you know i am not going to be upset over this :D Surely you know me better

I will be driving to raliegh in the next little bit im in NC now and found a house "thank the lord" Tomorrow is me and Danielles 6th Anniversary, sowe are going to head out somewhere else tomorrow unknown to the rest of the world

As a side note you all maybe very surpirsed to know how many do still believe the old paths however they are way in the minority but there are a lot out there.
Also as a note -the theory that TCOGGERS all come here and lurk waiting to post is not so accurate, i dont know how many do but I do know how many here that are in TCOG that usually many here do not even know that and they fellowship with you all in a very kind and loving manner. We love you all, but I also know there are exceptions to the rule in every organization. Many of us do come here because COGOP is our heritage and have many friends in COGOP I in NO way have come here to reform anyone, that would be absurd in ,my opinion.
I come here to fellowship with christian friends, it is a wonderful outlet to discuss issues, and everyday life with Christians
With that said love ya all

Ask her what a reprobate is.

She wouldn't know. Besides she came and stood by our pew, waited on Wen to return from the restroom, spoke in tongues, stuttered, and misspoke the interpretation and had to say I mean .......

PG, I think the Normal Christians comment is out there. Christians are Christians. Your comment seems to point to division and cliques.
I have found that some, maybe those you would call Normal, have lots of liberty and would do, say, watch, and participate in openly things that most would shun or disapprove of.

Okay....I have been away for a couple of days.....relaxing.....and visiting my very sick brother in law....

I read all this .....I promise......every word.

PG, I appreciate your attempts to make the New Order of the COGOP look very progressive....and as it has been for decades, there are pockets of that.

Interestingly enough, I had this conversation with my sister in law yesterday. She is the church treasurer and secretary.....Nothing has changed in her little MIssissippi church. Yes, some Miss. churches have changed, but not many.

I got a call from my wife's cousin......in Alabama ....asking if I could recommend a church to her in her area. She is tired of having to deal with the "jewelry" issue.....(she ain't saved cause she's got on a rang)

And it goes on and on and on......just last week one of the most brilliant and Godly men and his awesome wife were refused to be allowed to work in the kitchen in camp by the overseer, because he is no longer a member of CGOP. When he was a minister, he was the camp coordinator.

And it continues. So, yes there have been some denominational changes, but it has not "filtered down" as many would have others think. I can take you to at least 5 churches within a 40 mile radius of here and show you it has not.

So, now that I have dumped cold water on a "funny post" I will retreat to my "cut and run" cave and look for more ways to flake out!!!!

Parsing words

No need to parse my words for hidden meaning... I was not trying to slam anyone. The divisions exist, and my comments didn't cause them.

By "normal" Christians, I meant people who just love and serve Jesus without all the overlay of denominational, organizational "we're special!" folderol.

Ron -- I know that there are pockets of "ain't nothin' changed" and pockets of "if you ain't COGOP keep walkin'" and pockets of all manner of stupidity; I know there are some Overseers who are clueless (and I suspect their days are numbered, because, to quote a great line, "resistance is futile." -- you can't hold back the flood of change once the levee has ben breached.). Alabama and Mississippi are no longer the epicenter of COGOP's world.

I wish it were confined to Miss and Ala.

I am hearing the same line from you that I heard from others after the MAT era, and the Murray era.....

Good luck and Godspeed.

Ron -- we're friends, so I say this in love; when you play the "kid, you don't know what I know" card it makes you come across as a smug know-it-all, and I know you better than that. (And, yes, it does seem like everything is getting on my last nerve today.  )

Not trying to do that at all....just making a statement about how things have always been and in many ways ...still are.

I worked most of my life with the " it's all changing" belief and was an agent of change for many of the things you are now enjoying....to my detriment.

I just am not going to stay quiet when lurkers are laughing at many of you.
They need to be honest.

I am not a know it all , but I do know something about the way things have always worked.

Have it your way. Not all the laughter is directed at us...

Some of the churches I am familiar with are within that 40 mile radius of yours and some are just outside of it. In fact, if you expand that to 60 miles, you can add at least 4 more to that 5 you mentioned.

After talking with a friend about this, I can take you to at least 10 more here in CA that I wasn't referring to. And, it sounds like most of our mutual old stomping grounds (Dakotas) are still back there.

Yes, these are small churches. Yes, I HOPE that they are the minority. But, they are still out there and they are still oppressing people with the legalism that we all know so well.

I am sorry that Dr. Ron and I have rained on the humor here, but this is an issue that breaks my heart and brings tears to my eyes because it is involves my own family and to my best friends from my childhood who won't even respond to my e-mails because of my "liberalism" and because I have "walked away from the light".

I loved the humor of this post. But, I also know that the reality behind it is still there and that it breaks my heart.

I will stay out of this now.
God Bless You

I have deleted my response I will refrain as much as possible to this type of talk
