Recap of today's game --

TCOG Nabors came back from an early 14-0 deficit to put up 25 unanswered points in the second half and claim a victory over TCOG With Signs Following, in the inaugural game of the 5th Annual One True Bride Championship Series.

A crowd of 550 at Lee University Soccer Field took in a spectacle that saw Jerry Wilda run for 155 yards in a solid performance, leading the way for a frenzied group that saw James Nabors throw in a less than impressive performance at quarterback.

Juan Bonilla, who has a history of quitting on his team in the middle of the tournament, kicked three field goals to aid in Nabors' comeback.

For Signs Following, George Hensley passed for 276 yards on 18-for-28 passing, and also ran for 65 additional yards and a touchdown. He was intercepted three times by a nasty Nabors defense, however, negating several scoring opportunities to pull his team closer in the second half.

The turning point of the game was a flea flicker pass from Wilda to Cary Ryan with 43 seconds left in the second quarter, that changed all the momentum to Nabors' side. Ryan ran 76 yards untouched to the endzone, prompting an impromptu celebration, possibly a taunt, of the song "One Fold."

Watchman Committee members from both teams prevented a flareup in the third quarter as some of Nabors' group started hissing at Hensley supporters.

A bit of a background on the teams participating in this year's OTBCS.

COGOP has won it all in both 2005 and 07, and are expected to contend this year. Despite owning a 3-7 record last year, they squeaked into the playoffs as the #8 seed thanks to a last-game win over Sanctuary. Their historic run in the playoffs is never to be forgotten. This year, Clayton Endecott holds down the fort at running back, Randy Howard is in his first full year as QB, and receivers Marvin Eskew and David Bryan are always fighters. Miguel Mojica holds it down as the kicker.

TCOG Carter fields a very strong team this year, and one that narrowly lost the title last year. Danny Carter hopes to continue his stellar performance of OTBCS tournaments past, guiding his very efficient offense and leading a revamped defense. Earl Hazel was last year's leading rusher and hopes to keep that up this year. We have two newcomers at wide receiver, with Chris Newport and Frank Edwards replacing the injured Ron Kendrick and Jeff Wilcox. Don Bolyard is a very accurate kicker, having converted 13/15 field goals last year.

TCOG Nabors is a very eclectic group that surprised a ton of prognosticators last year. This year they look to hold their own and move forward to claim the title with James Nabors at quarterback, the very hard-to-bring-down Jerry Wilda at running back, and a smashing receiver corps in Scott Hatton and Cary Ryan. Arturo Aviles is a very flamboyant kicker as well.

COG is very strong this year but have been tight-lipped with roster information. Given how their church organization is very large yet their team has not done well at all since winning the inaugural OTBCS, they are very tough on releasing info to the OTBCS committee.

TCOG in Divine Order always has the dynamic duo of Jerry Lee Anderson and Ted Carr. Anderson is a hoss, and his rhinestone glasses and snakeskin coat make him tough to catch.

ZACOG has a very interesting team, with Wade Phillips at quarterback and EA McDonald at running back. Wide receivers include Joseph Steele and Zachary Snyder, and WP is their kicker as well. They have been out of the tourney the last couple years but they promise to show flashes of brilliance this year.

TCOG With Signs Following, Jerusalem Acres, and For All Nations have not released roster info yet either.

Please welcome Cedar Ridge Church to the OTBCS this year. Ron Hamm is the quarterback and is very pleased to be playing in the tournament. Running back is Danny Page, having been converted from quarterback at the last second. Receivers are Barkey Bryant and Howie Cantrell. Shane Queener will be the kicker. Once again, give CRC a big hand.

The opening ceremonies commence in five hours!

Folks I have been reporting that TCOG For All Nations is playing. That is erroneous -- TCOG North Carolina is actually in the tournament. My apologies for this erroneous info.

10:10 PM CST, July 10 - Game of the Day is over, Cedar Ridge has beaten COG 37-11. Awful showing from a COG team that has been looking to turn their terrible performance over the past two years around. Cedar Ridge throughly dominated, and I will have audio of the game up soon.

10:40 PM CST - COGOP and TCOGIDO tied 6-6 late in the third quarter. Randy Howard just threw an interception at midfield. No one has been able to find the endzone yet.

Here is the audio of Game of the Day between Cedar Ridge and COG.

10:49 PM CST- TCOGIDO pulls away from COGOP to win 23-13. If you're a COGOP fan you should be shuddering because this team only accumulated 161 total yards on a leaky Divine Order defense.

TCOG Carter and ZACOG are now underway.
