Gleaners

Postby soulsearcher » July 23rd, 2008, 6:53 am

Cats "Books of the Bible" post reminded me that I learned them (Books of the Bible" in Gleaners... and   ... we didn't have a song to learn them by - just plain old-fashioned memorization.

We had "bible drills" and so many other fun learning experiences. I even remember wearing the green capes and hats!

Go Gleaners!!

We sang it in Missouri - but I must have missed out on the green capes and hats?

Rub a dub dub - rub a dub dub - we've got the VLB's in a tub.
Wash 'em out - wring 'em out - hang them on the line.
Gleaners can beat the VLB's any old time!

Deep and wide, deep and wide, there's a fountain flowing deep and wide...I'm in the Lord's Army, I'm in the Lord's Army.

Just a couple I remember.

"Do your ears hang low, do they wobble to and fro..."

Oh, wait! That's from Youth Camp, not Gleaners.

"If we all pull together, together, together...
If we all pull together, how happy we'll be.
For your work is my work and our work is God's work.

Gleaners were the 12 and under. Last time I went to my Mom's, I was going thru drawers and looking for any of my old stuff that was still there and found my VLB tshirt.
To God be the Glory.

I loved my VLB Bible. I had the 80's edition (it was the smaller sized burgundy edition that was released after the red edition). I used that thing until it fell apart. Soulsearcher - your memory is much better than mine as I don't remember the year I received it - but my grandmother bought it for me at State Convention one year.
