I still have my VLB bible and often carry it to church. It's just the right size.

Do you know why VLB bibles were red?

Probably not unless they had some of the old ones left in stock. I think they did away with them when they changed the name from VLB to Youth Ministries.

Rambo - it was a World Bible Publishers (now Thomas Nelson) standard reference Bible with the VLB emblem gold stamped on the front of it. That was really the only thing special about it. It was the "in" Bible for the VLB's at the time (and I believe it was only available in KJV). Available :) "EXCLUSIVELY" :) from WWPH!

Back in those days - if you had the right headquarters representative visit your convention - they usually brought a little mini bookstore with them.

A VLB bible was on the desk in the oval office during Carter's presidency.

In Georgia, Larry Biggers and I had an activity called "Keep on Truckin' the
Word". It was a bible marathon. We ran the bible from Macon, GA. to Atlanta when Carter was governor. It was 96 miles. We all got sponsors to donate for every mile we ran. The Highway Patrol escorted us.

I was pastoring in Atlanta, and did the ground work there for the presentation. I also worked with FCA. We had two of the Atlanta Falcons and two of the Braves that joined us for the last 5 miles. Then the last mile, everyone ran.....It was awesome!!!!

Then governor Carter accepted it on the steps of the capital.....later took it with him to the White HOuse. I saw it on the desk when I visited there a few years later.....wish he had read it!

As a gleaner, I thought the capes and caps were blue......could be wrong. I used to wear them to go into bars and "solicite" money for the orphanage. I would take a tamborine and go into bars and those drunks would fill it up with money. I raised thousands of dollars for the orphanage. Great memories.

My favorite gleaner song "Peter James and John in a sailboat...out on the deep blue sea".

Postby JustJay » July 25th, 2008, 8:21 am

"hear that whistle blow...Toot Toot!
hear that whistle blow,
I'm on the Gleaner band train.

Another one.

I'm too young to march with the infantry, ride with the cavalry,
shoot the artillery, I'm too young to fly over Germany but I'm in the Lord's Army.

Did anyone else sing this one?

That reminded me of a song I heard some youth singing while I was in OK.

They had it this way..

The C-O-G-O-P yes that's the church for me... I stand upon the word of God... the C-O-G-O-P!  Of course, they were being funny... You know I wouldn't have been a part of that...

I don't know why that would be confusing? VLB, CPMA, WMB, ABM, VOS, WWPH, CM, YM, SS, Gleaners, SO, DO, Pastor's Pounding, Happy Harvester, Victory (Go DeWayne!), White Angels, Honor Stones, Arise Shine, etc. etc. (Probably another thread - I'm afraid to ask how many COGOPisms folks can think of that someone without a COGOP history would be clueless on!)

Why would any of that be confusing to anyone! :P

However - it would probably help if we didn't switch gears mid thread! :)

(State Overseers Pastors Association)

And what about the poor little BTC turned BTI, and the red-headed step-child, TC?!!

SOPA - State Overseer's PAY Association. It was the funds used to pay the State Overseer's salary. If I remember correctly our church used the offering collected at the ABM meetings (Assembly Band Movement or Prayer Bands) once a month for the state overseer. I'm sure glad we did away with the alphabet soup.
