Cedar Ridge Church WINS One True Bride Championship Series

Postby EagerBeaver » August 7th, 2008, 3:13 pm

In their first year of participation in the One True Bride Championship Series, Cedar Ridge Church has won the Wedding Dress Trophy as the True Bride of Christ for this year into 2009. With a 21-10 win over a listless TCOG Nabors group, they cemented their place in OTBCS history...and effectively rallied from a 0-2 hole in the series to win it.

The game itself was rather boring, to be honest -- but the fourth quarter had an exciting air to it that CRC's fans provided. With three minutes to go, they had all left the stands and were standing on the sideline, ready to rush the field. It was quite a sight to see. With Howie Cantrell's interception of a James Nabors pass at the 2:14 mark of the ballgame, they went absolutely wild.

With the loss, another year goes by that the TCOG or any of its splinters have failed to win the title. TCOG Carter led the COGOP 3 games to 2 last year, and was up in Game 6 by a score of 29-24 with two seconds to go after a last-minute touchdown, but David Bryan's kick return lateral to Marvin Eskew stunned them -- and COGOP went on to win Game 7.

This year, TCOGN was up 2 games to 0 and promptly lost the last four. TCOGN players and supporters were inconsolable and thus, unable to do interviews after the game.

Danny Page was named the season MVP due to his awesome stats. He scored nine touchdowns rushing, two receiving -- and that was just in the playoffs.

We scored an exclusive audio interview with Danny that you can hear below:

Once again, CRC is your 2008 OTBCS Champions. Mods could you de-sticky this year's OTBCS running thread.

Thank you all for your participation and the OTBCS will be back next July for some barnburning action. This year has seen the end of TCOG With Signs Following's run, ensuring the Stephen Smith-led TCOG will be back next year.

Thanks again folks and congratulations CRC! You are the true bride of Christ for the year!

Linda, it is tremendous fun each year. We may even have a winter snowfest with a select few teams to generate fan interest for the summer series.

All in all, it has been fun.

Danny, the folks from CNN's American Morning would like to speak with you tomorrow morning. 4AM CST. Up and at 'em early.
