Favre turned down. :( It appears to be another Barry Sanders saga.

He should stay off the field, now, IMO. Packers are right, and he needs to move along. However, they should release him to seal his own embarrassment with the condition that he sign only with an AFC team.

Dolfan, if they want to release him, then release him. IF he is going to "embarrass" himself what difference does it make if he does it in the AFC or with the Vikings or Bears? At least then he would have a chance to embarrass himself at Lambeau once a year!

I say this, release him, if he is washed up no team will want him. If he's not then we will get to watch him again this year.

Cause if he's good, you don't want to compete against him for division titles or conference titles!

Well, I hope he gets his streak ended when they play the Dolphins. Sorry, but that's just the way it is. He's a Jet, and now, to me, he's the enemy on the field.

Frank Caliendo was hilarious as John Madden this morning on Mike & Mike. "Madden" suggested that not only should Favre's #4 be retired in Green Bay, but that the whole country should just change the number 4 to the number "favre". One, two, three, favre, five. He went on and on. It was really, really funny.

Looks like Favre is in and Pennington is on his way out. I'll say this, Even if Favre has a year like he did in 2006 then the Jets can't get any worse. Maybe the Pats will get a bit of divisional competition now.

Now we know that Favre is a Jet. But your comment makes no sense Dolfan. If he's good, why not keep him? Apparently the Packers don't want him so why not let him go where he wants to go. I'm not sure the Jets were it. I have never been a Packer fan, but not a hater either. But now, I hope the Packers go south. If we was that good you should have kept him, if he's not let him play wherever he's not good, or at least the Packers think he's not.

Brett Favre is a grown man. He retired because he chose to retire. The Packers moved on. I don't doubt at all that the front office and coach wire-worked his retirement, but for a guy who's been in the NFL for as long as he has I don't buy the "aw, shucks" persona he wants to hide behind as cover for his decision to come back, either. The Packers had to commit to their guy once Favre retired, no matter what the reasons or motivations were for the retirement. Favre's decision to return was not fair to the team, not fair to Aaron Rodgers (Rogers? sp?), and was made only because that's what he wanted to do. His indecision, or rather, his ability to make serial conflicting decisions, affect more than just him. If it were simply a situation where Favre was the only person that mattered, I'd agree that the Packers should've had him back. Ironically, that's now Favre's attitude; at the Jets presser yesterday he said,
It's OK to have attention as long as it's based on this team. I'm just one man. One of 53.

I also find it very interesting that we don't hear any Packers being vocal about Brett Favre's not being kept by the Packers.

Mike McCarthy said (and, I don't give this anymore credibility than Favre's) that Favre indicated to him that he was not ready to lead the Packers. Game over. Well, Favre said in the Jets press conference yesterday that "To a certain degree I don't really know what I'm getting into and I'm talking about from a team standpoint, what can I do in a short amount of time to get this team where we want to go and get myself ready." He said that deep into it, and I think as the questions from reporters started, he was a bit more revealing in his assessment of himself. He wants to play, to contribute, no doubt. But, he doesn't know if he can do it. He said that when he retired, too, remember. If I'm the coach, I don't want my guy having doubts even if he is a shoo-in first ballot HOF'er. I also don't want that same guy taking precedence over the whole team by saying "I'm out", "I'm in, but I'm not in the best shape", etc.

Now, as to why he should go to the AFC, easy. He is, after all, Brett Favre. He's good. And, if he's good enough to make a division rival competitive, I don't want him around. Why gamble with that? Put him on the road to the AFC and you only have to worry about him if you play them in a regular season game (once) and again, if all the stars line up, in the Super Bowl. The chances of him doing you harm week in and week out simply by winning and keeping the W-L record in good order are much less if he's playing outside the conference.

Dolfan,

Yes Favre is a grown man. Yes he retired. Now he has wanted to come back. Since the Packer's have "moved on", why didn't they just release Farve, instead of holding him hostage? In reality that is what they did. They didn't want him, let him go. No they had to be greedy, hold him hostage, then get a conditional pick for the man. The Packers in my opinion have acted a lot like Fraudriguez. Wanting their cake and eating it to.

I agree yet disagree with your assestment of why the AFC. The Packers don't think he's good or they would have kept him. Yet at the same time they think he's good so we can get a conditional. I would have loved to have seen him go to a place where we had a chance to really have a chance to win.

I guess you could say I'm bent out of shape with the Packers.

Why would Rodgers not want to have to compete against Brett? If Rodgers is good enough to lead the Pack then he is good enough to beat Brett on the field.

If Brett beat Rodgers out for the QB job then the GM would have to admit they made a bad pick in Rodgers.
