Billy Wilson and Larry Duncan

Postby Dr. Ron » August 18th, 2008, 6:02 am

Both of these guys have had a very nice ride for a long time. They have done well for themselves and I am sure they have been a blessing to the church.....

However, if I can say anything positive about Randy's leadership it is that he understands that when a new commander takes his command, he generally fires all the others that worked for the outgoig commander and brings in his own men.

Billy will be fine without the church.....and don't forget he was in strong consideration for GO....however his intent was and still is (according to all sources) to push for merger between the two orgs. That is divisive at best to the present GO.

Larry certainly can make it without being "appointed". He has never lived outside Cleve., so his roots go deep and I am certain, if he needs a job, he could very easily find employment. I doubt seriously if he NEEDS a job.

I mean no ill will to any of these guys,....just stating the way things work.

I am glad they were "let go" in a positive way. I remain (to my knowledge) the only general appointee who was not mentioned at the GA nor in the White Wing when I stepped down. I had done nothing wrong and the decision was mine. I had given 40 years to the church .....

It was brought home to me at the next assembly when a man walked up to me and said....."didn't you used to be Ron Hamm?"

I wish both of these men God speed ......and as dolfan said "the church didn't owe them a lifetime position. I assure you , there is life after General Appointment,....As for BW staying in COGOP, I doubt is very much.

I wish there would be more clarification from someone that really knows....we could all kill ourselves with speculation!

Now I agree with this so much. It is hard to do online because it is like a thousand phone calls happening all at once. It used to be someone called so and so, they called someone else and then the rumors get going.
Now it can happen instantly online.
We have went through this and within no time things were all over the web just to find out later it was not all as it seemed.
Sad thing is the damage is done. I am not implying that anyone here has caused damage by any means but I like this qoute.

Also I believe someone said it would be best if they asked the person themselves.
I agree totally

Also am I understanding correctly that V.O.S. is going to be gone? Why would they do that? Or are they just going to use someone else for the program?

Just would be sad to me, it was something I know my Dad seemed to enjoy laying all other things aside, I believe he really liked doing that.

VOS is now a ministry of the International Center for Spiritual Renewal...it is still in existance...but is no longer an official ministry of the COGOP. We were still funding it...but this was set to expire at some point and may already have.

HQ gave the ministry away.

Billy is not leaving the church and the former VOS will receive reduced funding over the next four years. The Center for Spiritual Renewal is not CoGoP but he and his team will be leading this new ministry...He is no longer under "General Appointment" and the funds that were used for VOS will be placed into missions. I could and have made the argument that VOS reaches far more people overall than any other minstry we have between the TV and radio but the Presbytrs did not see it that way.

Anyone who knows Billy knows that he wasn't happy with the decision but he will press on and this new ministry will succeed. He may have "lost" his appointment but he has not lost his anointing. I attened the Center for Spiritual Renewal fund raising dinner during the assembly and look for great things to come out of this movement.

The word I got on Larry Duncan was that he is going to be teaching at Lee...No confirmation on that though.

I hate to see Billy out, but in my mind I think he is gone as well.

And that is a BIG TIME lost to this denom. There are other great leaders as well in this church.

There was no direct announcement that Brother Wilson was "leaving the church" (COGOP). It sounded to me as though he was. (his statement about the boat moving seemed to portray a hesitance and negativity in comment).

MY personal conjecture on this issue is that he has been and will continue to be organizing with some major ecumenical ministries. And I could very easily see him not aligning with any particular "denomination" (or "movement"), so that would allow him more freedom in the ministry within those other ministries. - but hay - just my dos centavos.

I understand that the COGOP will be continuing to support that ministry (formerly VOS), with decreasing amounts over the next three years.

I have no info on Brother Duncan. Both wonderful men of God. I have actually had more face time with Brother Duncan, so am a bit more biased toward His ministry (I have never actually see Brother Wilson's TV ministry). I am sure that Brother Larry will continue to serve God, continue to have faith in his Source and will not be forgotten or begging for bread.

I am a bit confused by some of the changes. For example, Larry was a leading influence in the relational leadership and discipleship training (that I have been through in various LDI's). and on the same side of the coin, so to speak - I am in a (now) quad-state region.

The email I saw from HQ said something about that we live in a world that has more advanced technology and that communications can continue and that the overseer will still be able to have the rally's and regional conventions. I am not sure how that will work with now, four states, and about 1000 miles across, and from the Canadian border to Missouri and as far south as bordering to Arizona/New Mexico.

I am optimistic, and will continue to pray. But, it seems that this is pretty smak in the face of relational leadership. - but I could be wrong. it remains to be seen. Bishop Yanez seems like a great guy the couple times I met him at the semblee.

Billy Wilson is an outstanding pulpit evangelist, especially if you like it "full of meat". The TV teaching is enjoyable, but not the strongest reflection of Billy's spiritual gifts. He will be just fine. :)

VOS is Gone! Try the website if ya don't believe me. It's now World Impact. The COGOP will continue to contribute but it is no longer a sole ministry of the COGOP.

My only question is, didn't we pay for all that equipment?
