I usually skim over them, but don't read them word for word. I didn't vote because that choice wasn't there.

If I open the post and see that it takes most, if not all of my screen, I just close it.

TO be completely honest, it depends on who is writing them. I won't give away THAT information though. :D

I don't tend to read copy, paste, devotional type stuff though. I have soooo much of that to read at home. I mainly use Jude for getting to know everyone and to challenge myself in my thinking. Sometimes the debate stuff gets over my head (especially the Michael/Tracy days). But I enjoy the debates the most. I don't read the jokes or cute stories here or on my email unless they are REALLY short or come from someone that doesn't usually send me that type of stuff.

Interesting question, Kimmy,

I am guilty of writing really long posts, both here and on other dicussion boards which I frequent. I guess I like to cover all my bases when I write.

Mine are probably some that get skipped regularly by many people!

I do read some long posts; like Kenya I tend to look at who wrote them, and I also pay attention to what the topic is when deciding if I will read.

I tend to skim over loooooong posts......unless, it's something I really am interested in. But most of the time, with some of the more "intelligent" posts, well I'll be the first to admit, it just flies right over my head! And I'm not even a real blonde!! Image And if it doesn't fly over my head.....I stick my foot in my mouth...Image

Jeff is working here where I work for a few days to help my boss out. My boss goes to my church. During lunch we sat down together at my desk and were looking over some new threads and I mentioned...I never read the long ones. He said he didn't either...much. So we decided to come up with a sill thread about Loooonnnnngggg posts. We wanted to know if everyone had the same tendencies to skip over long posts. We were right in our thinking. HAHA!

Hey, Kimmy

I would much rather read LOOOOONG posts than read POSTS THAT ARE DONE IN ALL CAPS LIKE YOUR POLL POST!

I let that slide, but in the future please let that CAPS LOCK key back to the off position.

Standard practice

Postby Pastor Gary » June 25th, 2004, 10:52 am

Sorry, Kimmy -- it's just standard netiquette. Posts in all caps are read as ANGRY SHOUTING and I don't think that was your intent.

(I cut some slack for one elderly woman who e-mails me in all caps, because I think she has impaired vision and has her computer set to type huge all caps all the time. Otherwise, it's U/lc for me.)

Tracy,

You and I had a few discussions on the other board. I don't mind the long posts, especially when they cover all the bases... I must admit, however, in reading the discussion of others I usually skim the posts unless very interesting topic matter is being debated.

Ritchie

 Read some, according to the person writing the post. Some are the type you want to reply to and some you just wonder why.

Depends on what you mean by "long"

I generally skip the long "sermon" type posts, and opt for the discussions which can get pretty long, but I don't mind except on some it seems there is 3-4 pages of quote with little comments here and there (and yes I know I do this at times too  ) but in discussions where that is done back and forth for 4-5 in a row, it gets a little hard to keep up with, and unless it's going somewhere I start skipping or skimming.

Not really a good vote for that, so I skipped that too

Hi Pastor Ables,

To which board are you referring? I do remember having an extended discussion with you but I thought it was on this board; when I post on the other theological discussion boards I don't use my name.

Tracy
