I've just recently learned how popular wicca is becoming in our area. Any tips on how to witness to someone dabbling in this stuff? We have a budding relationship with a young man who believes in God but has been hurt and wants to add the aspects of wicca to what he knows about God. Please don't just give me the standard scriptures and "stay away" stuff. I already know those.

Wicca is based in witchcraft and witchcraft is one of the works of the flesh. There are others scriptures that will relate to this thought. It is very dangerous as one would be dealing with the Devil. Please try to get him away from this. If he will let you, pray with him and encourage him in the Lord.our prayers are with you on this.

There are other scriptures that would support this direction, but I would approach this one from the fact that all dominion, principality, power, earth science, black magic, white magic, crystals, incense, and herbs were created by God. With that in mind, God governs as pleases him concerning the practice of these things. He has stated that his children should only seek his face, not his creation.

Let me add that I'm not advocating compromise. I'm just offering an alternative direction than the scriptures you are already well aware of.

He can not add any aspects of wicca to God. Wicca is serving, bowing to another God. This is one of the things that is called adultry by God. Wicca is satan worship and witchcraft. He can not serve both, he will serve one or the other.

contrary to common notions, wicca is not satan worship, or satanism. There are sects of wiccan religion. most consider themselves "pagan" (but not used in a negative connotation, it's a separate reference.) much to do with "nature" and that kind of thought/spirituality. It is a bad thing, but without knowing more, my simply be mislead folks that are actually seeking God, and don't know it.

the approach I would take is one of listening and questioning (sincerely, not with rhetoric in order to "catch them up" on something or another) them and trying to discover what it is that they believe, in order to best present the free-gift of Christ's salvation.

This is the best pair of Scriptures I have ever heard to combat the Wiccan teachings. I am under the impression Wicca worships the earth, I always ask why not worship the One who made the earth?

A bit of personal experience -- my ex-girlfriend had a relative who was Wiccan. Even though my ex claimed she was a Christian, she never defended me (and in turn her own faith she claimed to have) when her cousin would attack my faith. She tried to mesh Wiccan beliefs in with the Bible -- and instantly our relationship suffered, everything went downhill -- and let's just say I am glad I'm out of it.

Wiccan works from the power of darkness and what is the power of darkness, Satan. You can call it nature, or anything elsebut it is still demoniac. Pagan religion is still sinful in the bible and is not to taking likely.

Mabon / Autumnal Equinox, our next sabbat on the 22nd of September, is the second of three harvest holidays. A traditional practice is to walk wild places and forests, gathering seed pods and dried plants. Some of these can be used to decorate the home, others saved for future herbal magick. The making of corn dollies which represent the harvest mother goddess is common. These traveled with the last loads of grain harvested. It is said the spirit of the mother goddess resides in the last sheaf of grain left uncut and was treated with respect or fear. As the nights grow crisp, autumn arrives..



Today is September 22 - Mabon, Alban Alued

The Autumnal Equinox, or 2nd Harvest, is celebrated.
A time when darkness overtakes light, the days become shorter.
The Druidic Alban Elued, the light of the water is celebrated.
This is also the Weavers festival, where magickal knots are tied in ritual.

Overview
Wicca is a neopagan religion with distinctive ritual forms, seasonal observances and religious, magical[5] and ethical precepts. Wiccans practise a form of witchcraft, but not all witches are Wiccans — other forms of witchcraft, folk magic and sorcery exist within many cultures, with widely varying practices. Most Wiccans call themselves Pagans, though the umbrella term Paganism encompasses many faiths that have nothing to do with Wicca or witchcraft. Wicca has also been described as a Neopagan or a Mesopagan path.[6] Since there is no centralised organisation in Wicca, and no single orthodoxy, the beliefs and practices of Wiccans can vary substantially, both among individuals and among traditions. Typically, the main religious principles, ethics, and ritual structures are shared, since they are key elements of traditional teachings and published works on the subject.

As practised by initiates in the lineage of Gerald Gardner, Wicca is a variety of witchcraft founded on religious and magical concepts. As such it is distinguished not only by its beliefs, but by its practice of magic, its ethical philosophy, initiatory system, organisational structure and secrecy.[7] Some of these beliefs and practices have also been adopted by others outside of this lineage, often termed Eclectic Wiccans, who generally discard the institutions of initiation, secrecy and hierarchy, and have more widely varying beliefs. Some Eclectic Wiccans neither perform magic nor identify as witches. Within traditional forms of Wicca there are three degrees of initiation. First degree is required to gain membership of a coven; those who aspire to teach may eventually undergo second and third degree initiations, conferring the title of "High Priest" or "High Priestess" and allowing them to establish new covens.[7] At initiation, some Wiccans adopt a craft name to symbolise their spiritual "rebirth", to act as a magical alter-ego, or simply to provide anonymity when appearing as a witch in public (see Acceptance of Wiccans below).

Although Wiccan views on theology vary, the vast majority of Wiccans are theists, believing in some form of deity and/or deities. For most theistic Wiccans, there is a belief in a pantheistic deity known as Dryghten, the Prime Mover, or The All. The polarity of Dryghten is shown through the two opposing duotheistic facets of The God and The Goddess. These are sometimes further understood through many different pagan polytheistic deities.

The God and the Goddess
For most Wiccans, Wicca is a duotheistic religion worshipping a God and a Goddess, who are seen as complementary polarities, and "embodiments of a life-force manifest in nature."[8] The God is sometimes symbolised as the sun, and the Goddess as the moon.

Traditionally the God is viewed as a Horned God of nature. He is often seen as a god of woodlands, sexuality, and hunting.

The Goddess is usually portayed as a Triple Goddess with aspects of "Maiden", "Mother" and "Crone". Some Wiccans see the Goddess as pre-eminent, since she contains and conceives all; the God is the spark of life and inspiration within her, simultaneously her lover and her child. This is reflected in the traditional structure of the coven.[9] In some traditions, notably feminist Dianic Wicca, the Goddess is seen as complete unto herself, and the God is not worshipped at all.

The antlered god from the Gundestrup cauldron, often identified with Cernunnos and the Horned God of Wicca.According to Gerald Gardner, the gods of Wicca are prehistoric gods of the British Isles: a Horned God and a Great Mother goddess.[10] Little evidence, however, has been produced for this.

Polytheism
This duotheism is often extended into a kind of polytheism by the belief that the gods and goddesses of all cultures are aspects of this pair (or of the Goddess alone). Others hold the various gods and goddesses to be separate and distinct. Still others do not believe in the gods as real personalities, but see them as archetypes or thoughtforms.[11] Janet Farrar and Gavin Bone have observed that Wicca is becoming more polytheistic as it matures, and embracing a more traditional pagan world-view.[12]

Dryghten
Gardner stated that a being higher than the God and the Goddess is recognised by the witches as the Prime Mover, but remains unknowable.[13] Patricia Crowther has called this supreme godhead Dryghten,[14] and Scott Cunningham called it "The One".[15] This pantheistic or panentheistic view of God shares similarities with beliefs such as the Hindu Brahman.

Animism
Wicca is essentially an immanent religion, and for some Wiccans, this idea also involves elements of animism. A key belief in Wicca is that the Goddess and the God (or the goddesses and gods) are able to manifest in personal form, most importantly through the bodies of Priestesses and Priests via the rituals of Drawing down the Moon or Drawing down the Sun.

Beliefs in the afterlife vary among Wiccans, although reincarnation is a traditional Wiccan teaching. Raymond Buckland holds that a soul reincarnates into the same species over many lives in order to learn and advance one's soul,[16] but this belief is not universal.

Wiccans believe in magic that can be manipulated through the form of witchcraft or sorcery. Wiccans cast spells through the form of ritual practises (which are explained in far more detail below).

Wiccan morality is largely based on the Wiccan Rede, which states:

“ An it harm none, do what ye will ”

Sometimes however it is written as:

“ Do as ye will, as long as ye harm none ”

This is usually interpreted as a declaration of the freedom to act, along with the necessity of taking responsibility for what follows from one's actions and minimising harm to oneself and others.[17] Another common element of Wiccan morality is the Law of Threefold Return which holds that whatever benevolent or malevolent actions a person performs will return to that person with triple force,[18] similar to the eastern idea of karma.

Many Wiccans also seek to cultivate a set of eight virtues mentioned in Doreen Valiente's Charge of the Goddess,[19] these being mirth, reverence, honour, humility, strength, beauty, power and compassion. In Valiente's poem, they are ordered in pairs of complementary opposites, reflecting a dualism that is common throughout Wiccan philosophy. Some lineaged Wiccans also observe a set of 161 Wiccan Laws, commonly called the Craft Laws or Ardanes. Valiente, one of Gardner's original high priestesses, argued that these rules were most likely invented by Gardner himself in mock-archaic language as the by-product of inner conflict within his Bricket Wood coven.[20][21]

Although Gardner initially demonstrated an aversion to homosexuality, claiming that it brought down "the curse of the goddess",[22] it is now accepted in many traditions of Wicca.

[edit] Ritual practices
When practising magic and casting spells, as well as when celebrating various festivals, Wiccans use a variety of rituals. In typical rites, the coven or solitary assembles inside a ritually cast and purified magic circle. Casting the circle may involve the invocation of the "Guardians" of the cardinal points: East (Air), South (Fire), West (Water) and North (Earth). This use of the classical elements is a key feature of the Wiccan world-view. Every manifest force or form is seen to express one or more of the four elements. Some add a fifth or quintessential element called Spirit (also called aether or akasha). The five points of the frequently worn pentagram symbolise, among other things, the four elements with spirit presiding at the top.[23] Once the circle is cast, a seasonal ritual may be performed, prayers to the God and Goddess are said, and spells are sometimes worked.


An athame (black handle) and boline.Many Wiccans use a special set of magical tools in their rituals. These can include a broom (besom), cauldron, chalice, wand, Book of Shadows, altar cloth, athame, boline, candles, crystals, pentacle and/or incense. An altar is usually present in the circle, on which ritual tools are placed and representations of the God/Goddess may be displayed.[24] Before entering the circle, some traditions fast for the day, and/or ritually bathe. After a ritual has finished, the God, Goddess and Guardians are thanked and the circle is closed.

A sensationalised aspect of Wicca, particularly in Gardnerian Wicca, is the traditional practice of working in the nude, also known as skyclad. This practice seemingly derives from a line in Aradia, Charles Leland's supposed record of Italian witchcraft. Skyclad working is mostly the province of Initiatory Wiccans, who are outnumbered by the less strictly observant Eclectics. When they work clothed, Wiccans may wear robes with cords tied around the waist, "Renaissance-faire"-type clothing or normal street clothes.

The Bible and the Occult:
Witchcraft, Wizards, Wicca, Sorcery, Magic, Spiritualism, Paganism, and Psychics

The occult is increasingly accepted. We frequently hear about sorcery, witchcraft, magic, Wicca, Satanism, wizards, mediums, fortune-tellers, spiritualism, psychics, and paganism. The New Age Movement popularizes all these. What does the Bible say about them? Should a Christian practice divination, necromancy, soothsaying, enchantments, spiritism, augury, and other aspects of the occult? Can pagan practices be harmonized with Christianity?
The religious significance of the occult
Sometimes people wonder whether or not various aspects of the occult are religious in nature or should be of concern to Christians. Consider these quotations regarding witchcraft:

For many, Witchcraft is more than just a religion…it’s a way of life ... When witchcraft is practised [sic] as a religion, it is called by the Old English term for witch, Wicca. This term is used to counter all the negative stereotypes that society has given witchcraft. Wicca is primarily a religion that worships nature, and sees all creation as sacred. ... Wicca also worships both a male and female deity, a female Goddess and a male God, who had together created the world and everything in it. ... Spells ... Witchcraft is a pagan religion. Pagan religions worship multiple deities rather than a single god. Paganism is one of the oldest religions and includes all religions that are not Christian, Muslim or Jewish, meaning Paganism includes the Hindu, Buddhist, Taoist, Confucian and American Indian religions as well as all other nature-oriented religions. ...

So witchcraft is practiced by many as a religion. Many other aspects of the occult are admittedly religious in nature.

The purpose of this study is to example what the Bible says about occult practices. Whether or not the practitioners admit the religious aspects, we will see that all aspects of the occult should be of concern to Christians.

Current popularity of the occult
Through the mid-1900’s, no one took witches and magic seriously. Today it is different. Many people would be surprised to find how commonly the occult is practiced in our society, and they may find it is closer to home than they realize.

Books — Nearly every bookstore has a major section on the occult. Some bookstores and book clubs are devoted entirely to the occult.

Magazines and tabloids, such as the National Enquirer, sold at every grocery store check-out lane, promote psychics and all kinds of occult practices.

Games — Toy or game sections in stores often sell occult games such as Ouija boards or Dungeons and Dragons and similar “fantasy games.” Still more popular are computer games involving witches, sorcerers, demons, and occult powers of all kinds. Often players role-play or pretend they are these occult characters.

Stores – Some stores specialize in selling paraphernalia used in various occult activities. We have such a store called “Sacred Earth” in Antioch, IL. Their web site says:

Television and movies — Many programs and movies have major occult themes, beginning years ago with “Rosemary’s Baby,” “The Exorcist,” etc. Many children’s cartoons now feature occult powers, with witches, sorcerers, demons, etc.

Music — Many popular recording artists are personally involved in sorcery, witchcraft, and Satanism. Popular songs often involve aspects of the occult, and album covers often portray occult and Satanist symbols.

Education — Many colleges and universities teach courses discussing the occult, and even high school and grade school texts may contain references to witchcraft and the occult. An honors student at a Ft. Wayne high school once called me to express concern about the number of students involved in Dungeons and Dragons at school.

The New Age movement consists largely of people involved in the occult and pagan religions.

Satanic rituals — News often mentions crimes which police suspect are the result of Satanic worship rituals.

Halloween is a holy day in witchcraft.

The Wiccan year begins on the sabbat (holy day) of Yule, when the Goddess gives birth to the God. The God grows strong through spring and summer, and then in fall, the God and Goddess unite. At this time, the Goddess becomes pregnant with the new God. The Women’s Liberation Movement – Given the predominance of female goddesses in the occult, especially Wicca, it should be no surprise that many feminists practice various aspects of the occult.

Just as many are surprised to learn how serious a problem this is in our society, many more are surprised to learn how much the Bible has to say about it. We will consider Bible teaching regarding two general areas of occult activity.

I. Attempts to Perform Supernatural Events

A. A Description of Occult Practices
Some occult concepts are hard to define.
Many terms overlap in meaning or are used by different people in different ways. We will use terms as follows:

“Witchcraft”: sorcery, the attempt to exercise supernatural powers by means of magic rituals or techniques (incantations, spells, drugs, potions, curses, charms, etc.).

“Magic”: efforts to exercise supernatural powers or to appeal to spirit beings (other than God) to produce some event considered unattainable by natural means.

Note that we refer here to appeals to supernatural and spirit powers to influence the course of events on earth: powers which are beyond the laws of nature and the natural course of events.

What supernatural powers may be appealed to?
Those involved may believe they are appealing to various different forces:

* Pagan or heathen deities (as in the earlier quotations about Wicca)

* Spirit of some dead person (“ghost,” or “spirit”)

* Satan and demons — some people knowingly attempt to appeal to demonic forces to work in their lives (others, such as in Wicca, do not believe Satan even exists).

* Many people ignore who or what the power is. They simply learn certain rituals that they believe summon spirit forces to produce some end result. If they think they can obtain the desired goal, they do not care who the force is.

Regardless of who or what force people believe they are appealing to, whenever people appeal to any spirit or supernatural power other than the God of the Bible to work in their lives, that is the occult as we use it in this study.

The occult does not include events that are understood to occur by natural law.
We do not include in the occult attempts to produce even some amazing result beyond our comprehension, yet it is understood to be done by the power of natural law.

* “Magic” as sleight of hand tricks done for social entertainment is not under consideration. These involve illusions and techniques completely within the realm of natural law, if we only understood the trick. Those who practice such know that this is simply a natural skill they have learned by practice (like playing a musical instrument or swinging on a trapeze).

* Physicians may use drugs or treatments to produce a healing effect. The intent is to use natural laws to benefit the body (whether or not we understand the law).

In none of these cases are people appealing to supernatural spirit forces.

The occult includes these supernatural powers whether done for helpful or harmful goals.
Some people think a “witch” is an ugly hag who rides a broomstick with a black cat on Halloween, casting spells, or sticking pins in voodoo dolls. That is witchcraft, but there is much more.

Witches may be men or women, pretty or ugly. They may distinguish “white magic” from “black magic.” Black magic means spells, incantations, curses, etc., intended to bring harm to someone (like the evil witch in Snow White). This is viewed as bad, even by some witches. White magic uses spells, etc., to try to bring good fortune, such as producing rain, finding some lost object, bringing success in war or business, producing a good crop, etc. (like the fairy godmother in Cinderella).

Some would tell us that white magic is good because it helps people, but only black magic is wrong because it harms people. We will see, however, that all sorcery and occult practices are wrong, because they come from the wrong source. The source of the power is what makes them inherently evil, regardless of the intended goal.

B. Bible Teaching about These Supernatural Powers
Witchcraft, sorcery, etc., are condemned without qualification in both the Old and New Testaments.
Deuteronomy 18:9-14 — Every aspect of the occult is here itemized and forbidden as an “abomination.” Specifically forbidden are: one who practices “witchcraft” (NKJV; “divination” — ASV; KJV) or a “sorcerer” (NKJV and ASV; “witch” — KJV), or a “spiritist” (NKJV; “wizard” — ASV, KJV).

Leviticus 19:31 — Give no regard to mediums and familiar spirits (“wizards” — ASV, KJV); do not seek after them, to be defiled by them (NKJV).

Leviticus 20:6 — And the person who turns after mediums and familiar spirits (“wizards” — ASV, KJV), to prostitute himself with them, I will set My face against that person and cut him off from his people. (NKJV)

Leviticus 20:27 — A man or a woman who is a medium, or who has a familiar spirit (“wizard” — ASV, KJV), shall surely be put to death (NKJV).

Revelation 21:8 — But the cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.

Revelation 22:15 — But outside [heaven] are dogs and sorcerers and sexually immoral and murderers and idolaters, and whoever loves and practices a lie.

Acts 13:8-10 — Elymas the sorcerer tried to keep Sergius Paulus from accepting the gospel. Paul rebuked him saying: “O full of all deceit and all fraud, you son of the devil, you enemy of all righteousness, will you not cease perverting the straight ways of the Lord?”

Note that the Bible does not distinguish whether the witchcraft is intended to achieve a beneficial goal or a harmful one. It is all inherently wrong because it is an appeal to a forbidden source of power.

Specific powers of witchcraft and sorcery are named and condemned.
Exodus 7:11,22; 8:7 — Using their “enchantments,” Pharaoh’s magicians tried to duplicate the miracles done by Moses and Aaron. “Enchantments” refer to the ceremonies or rituals sorcerers and magicians use to accomplish their ends: incantations, spells, magic words (“hocus-pocus”), wearing of charms (amulets), etc.

As the witchcraft website says: “Spells are used by Wiccans, and are a series of rituals and prayers that are conducted in witchcraft to ask for divine help in a certain aspect of life.” But God forbids them all.

Deuteronomy 18:10 also mentions these “enchantments” as part of that which is forbidden (“enchanters” — ASV, KJV).

Isaiah 8:19,20 - When they say to you, “Seek those who are mediums and wizards, who whisper and mutter,” should not a people seek their God? ... To the law and to the testimony! If they do not speak according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.

“Whisper and mutter” refers to the incantations and spells of magicians. These words are supposed to give the user power to induce the spirit beings to accomplish the desired result. If you know the words, you can lead the spirit to do your bidding.

Note that God’s objection is that such practices are a failure to seek after the true God.

Galatians 5:20,21 — Those who will not inherit the kingdom of God include those who practice “sorcery” (“witchcraft” — KJV). This includes the occult in general, but refers especially to the use of drugs and potions brewed by witches in their cauldrons, etc. (Movies and books often refer to the witches’ books of spells and recipes for potions, etc. “Bubble, bubble, toil and trouble...”)

God condemns, not only the whole practice of the occult, but also the specific methods, rituals, and mumbo-jumbo words used.

Witches and sorcerers cannot duplicate the powers and miracles God did through inspired men.
The Bible often warns us to avoid being deceived by lying wonders [2 Thess. 2:9; Matt. 24:24; Deut. 13:1-5]. Many Bible events involved confrontations between those who did true miracles from God and those who practiced forms of sorcery or magic.

Exodus 7-9; read 8:18,19 — Pharaoh’s magicians and sorcerers tried to duplicate the signs and plagues God caused through Moses and Aaron (7:11,22; 8:7,8,18; 9:11). For a while they seemed to succeed, but soon they failed and admitted Moses had the power of God.

Daniel 1:20 — In all matters of wisdom and understanding the king found Daniel and his friends ten times better than all the magicians and astrologers.

Daniel 2:1-13,27,28 — None of the magicians in Babylon could tell the king his dream and interpret it. But by the power of God, Daniel could both state and interpret the dream accurately [cf. 4:7,9]. Later he likewise interpreted the handwriting on the wall that predicted the downfall of Belshazzar (5:7,11). [Cf. Gen. 41:8,24]

Acts 8:9-13 — When Simon used sorcery to amaze the Samaritans, they believed he had great power from God. But when Philip preached Jesus and did true miracles by the power of God, both the people and Simon himself believed and were converted [cf. vv 5-7].

Acts 13:6-11 — Elymas the sorcerer was powerless to resist the superior power God worked through Paul.

I do not know whether the power of sorcerers can be explained through trickery, which pretends supernatural power but can really be explained naturally, or whether Satan really does possess some supernatural power. But what is sure is that Satan can never duplicate God’s true miracles. By comparing sorcery to the miracles of the Bible, we have proof witchcraft is inferior, so we should not put our faith in it.

Witchcraft, magic, etc., are the occult substitutes for Bible miracles. Where God has done miracles for His people, believers in the occult seek supernatural works by means of spells, incantations, etc. that appeal to other spirit powers.

As stated on the witchcraft website:

Wicca also worships both a male and female deity, a female Goddess and a male God, who had together created the world and everything in it. ... Spells are used by Wiccans, and are a series of rituals and prayers that are conducted in witchcraft to ask for divine help in a certain aspect of life.

While many in the occult may not think they are appealing to gods, nevertheless God forbids all such because it is an appeal to supernatural powers other than His. God will never allow His people to follow that which counterfeits His true works.

II. Attempts to Obtain Supernatural Knowledge

A different form of witchcraft and sorcery is “divination” or “soothsaying.” This involves supernatural methods used to seek information that cannot be obtained by natural processes of study and investigation. Especially, it seeks to foretell the future.

Just as magic is the occult substitute for God’s miracles, so divination is the occult substitute for God’s prophecy.

Note the Bible teaching regarding various forms of divination:

A. Divination in General
Deuteronomy 18:10,14 — “Divination” (ASV, KJV; “soothsayer” — NKJV) and “diviners” are specifically listed among the aspects of the occult that were forbidden as abomination among God’s people. A soothsayer is a fortune-teller: one who attempts to predict the future by occult methods. These things were practiced by the evil nations that God cast out of Canaan.

2 Kings 17:17,18 — God later sent Israel into captivity because they practiced sins including “divination” (ASV, KJV) or “soothsaying” (NKJV).

Many of us may not be familiar with these terms, but such practices were well-known in Bible times and are becoming more common today. The Bible plainly condemns them.

B. Augury (Interpretation of Omens)
Deuteronomy 18:10,14 — The list of occult practices that are an abomination to God includes “one who interprets omens” (NKJV; KJV — “observer of times”; ASV — one who practices “augury”).

2 Kings 21:6 — King Manasseh of Israel did much evil before God, including the practice of “soothsaying” (NKJV; “augury” — ASV; “observed times” — KJV). [2 Chron. 33:6]

This practice involved the belief that the activities of the gods could be predicted by observing events in nature (weather, animals, movement of stars), or by chance ritual ceremonies (casting lots, tossing arrows, etc.). Astrology is augury based on observation of the stars and planets. By observing such events, people attempted to predict the future.

Again, such practices are evil and an abomination to God.

C. Psychics and Fortune-tellers
This includes all those who attempt to predict the future by supernatural, spirit powers: fortune-tellers, crystal ball readers, palm readers, mind readers, reading tarot cards [silent “t” in tarot], reading tea leaves, or Ouija board [reading animal livers — Ezek. 21:21].

The Bible says:

Only God can read the minds of men.
1 Corinthians 2:11 — For what man knows the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God.

John 2:25 — Jesus had no need that anyone should testify of man, for He knew what was in man.

1 Kings 8:39 — Only God knows the hearts of man [Jer. 17:10].

Psychics and mind readers pretend to read men’s minds, but only God has this power, and He no longer gives it to men (see 1 Cor. 13 below). When men claim supernatural power to read the minds of others, they are involved in a form of witchcraft and divination, condemned in the passages above.

Only God can predict the future.
James 4:14 — You do not know what will happen tomorrow.

Proverbs 27:1 — Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring forth. So, no human can predict the future by natural law. Any effort to predict the future must be based on supernatural powers.

Isaiah 41:21-23; 42:8,9 — God challenged the idols to prove they are gods by predicting the future. He rested His claim to Deity on His ability to predict the future.

So, God says no power but His can really predict the future. When people claim to be able to do it by occult means, they are claiming the power of God (regardless of their intent).

1 Corinthians 13:8-10 — God did miracles in the age when His written word was not complete. By God’s supernatural power, men revealed His will and confirmed by miracles that it was from God (Mark 16:20; Acts 14:3; Heb. 2:3,4). Since the written word (that which is perfect — James 1:25) has come, God no longer gives men the power of prophecy.

So, no one today can predict the future by the power of God. Anyone who claims such a power is not doing it by God’s power. Whatever power he claims, it must be a form of occult divination, condemned by God.

A test for impostors is to see if their predictions ever fail.
Deuteronomy 18:20-22 — After rebuking all forms of the occult (vv 9-14), God predicted the coming of the true prophet (Jesus) in whom people should trust (vv 15-19). Then He explained some ways people could recognize false prophets. A prophet is not from God if he claims to speak in the name of some other god or if his predictions of the future do not come true.

Occult diviners, psychics, and fortune tellers often speak in the name of supernatural beings other than the God of the Bible. All who do so are false prophets.

Other occult prognosticators are proven to be false teachers when their predictions fail to come true. Here are some examples:

Jean Dixon

She became famous by predicting the death of John Kennedy. But one rarely hears about her predictions that failed. These include:

* World War III would begin in 1958. (Did it?)

* Russia would put the first man on the moon. (A good guess since they led the space race at the time. But America was first; Russia still has not done it.)

* Lyndon Johnson would be the Democratic candidate for president in 1968. (Since he was president at the time, he was the logical choice. But he refused to run.)

* President Ford would resign and Rockefeller would replace him. (Ford never resigned; Rockefeller was never president.)

* Reagan would be the Republican candidate for president in 1976. (Ford won the nomination instead).

[Others: Red China would enter the UN in 1958 — it didn’t happen till much later. Vietnam war would end within 90 days of May 7, 1966 — it did not happen till much later. All quotes via: Halbrook, 1974 Florida College lectures; O’Neal, Searching the Scriptures, 6/78]

National Enquirer psychics

People have recorded the results of their predictions as follows:

* 22 false predictions in 1975 (R. Harris, Contender, 1/76)

* 14 misses in the second half of 1977 (O’Neal, Searching the Scriptures, 6/78).

* Of 58 predictions, only two were right, and these were easy guesses (Bob Craig, Gospel Anchor, 5/79).

The track records of the psychics proves they are false teachers. We should not be afraid of them.

D. Spiritism and Necromancy
Necromancy (NECK-re-man-see) is the alleged power to communicate with the spirits of dead people (“ghosts”). Other terms for those who claim this power are: “medium,” having a “familiar spirit,” “spiritist,” or “spiritualist.”

Literally hundreds of thousands of people claim this power in the US, many of whom are members of spiritualist or spiritist churches (Kingdom of the Cults, Martin, p. 199). Many “Christians” claim this is approved of God. I had a former sister-in-law who attended meetings of such a group.

What does the Bible say?

Deuteronomy 18:11 — The occult practices that are an abomination to God include mediums, spiritists and those who call up the dead (NKJV; “consulter with a familiar spirit … necromancer” — ASV, KJV).

Leviticus 19:31; 20:6,27 — God’s people must not seek out mediums or familiar spirits. If they do, they should be cut off. Those who are mediums or have a familiar spirit should be stoned.

Ecclesiastes 9:6 — Those who are dead have no more portion in anything done under the son forever.

Luke 16:27-31 — Abraham refused to let Lazarus go back from the dead to warn the rich man’s brothers. Why? Because God had already sufficiently revealed His will through prophets in the Scriptures.

God’s inspired prophets have provided all the Divine revelation people need. When people seek further information through people who return from the dead, they are wicked like the rich man in Hades. Those who trust the Bible know that they do not need people to return from the dead to give them supernatural knowledge.

1 Samuel 28:3-14 — Saul consulted a woman from Endor who had a familiar spirit, to get her to call up Samuel. Some think this proves the practice is valid. But note v12 — When the woman saw Samuel she cried out with a loud voice. Why? She had agreed to call him up. If she had expected him to come, why be surprised when he came?

1 Chronicles 10:13,14 — Saul died because he was unfaithful and because he consulted with this familiar spirit. However one explains the means by which the woman called Samuel back, the fact is that God disapproved of Saul for appealing to a medium, and it led to Saul’s death.

Conclusion
Why is God so opposed to the occult?
Witchcraft and every aspect of the occult are plainly condemned by God. But why? Because they are a counterfeit substitute for the power of God.

Remember the statements quoted in our introduction:

Wicca is primarily a religion that worships nature, and sees all creation as sacred. ... Wicca also worships both a male and female deity, a female Goddess and a male God, who had together created the world and everything in it. ... Spells are used by Wiccans, and are a series of rituals and prayers that are conducted in witchcraft to ask for divine help in a certain aspect of life.

Witchcraft is a pagan religion. Pagan religions worship multiple deities rather than a single god.

Whether or not they acknowledge it (as in these quotations), occult practitioners serve gods other than the God of the Bible. They appeal to other spirit powers to provide “divine help,” which they ought to trust in God to provide.

They “worship and serve the creature (‘nature,’ ‘all creation’), rather than the Creator” - Romans 1:25.

People who need supernatural power, should turn to the one true, living Creator.
* God has done great miracles to prove His power. Magic is the occult counterfeit for miracles. It is an attempt to achieve supernatural events by spirit power other than that of God. [Isaiah 8:19,20]

* God has revealed His will and predicted the future in prophecy. Divination is the occult counterfeit for prophecy. It is an attempt to obtain supernatural knowledge by spirit powers other than the power of God.

Colossians 2:8-10 — Christians are complete in Christ. We have all the supernatural knowledge from God that we need and all He will ever give in the Scriptures (2 Timothy 3:16,17; 2 Peter 1:3). We have the record of miracles to confirm that message (John 20:30,31). God meets our daily needs in answer to prayer (Philippians 4:6,7). To turn to the occult is to belittle our completeness in Christ and to seek supernatural help somewhere other than in God.

Acts 19:18-20 — When God’s word prevails in the lives of people today, they renounce their involvement in magic or sorcery. They remove and destroy all aspects of it in their lives.

The gospel of Christ cannot coexist with the occult in our lives. Either the occult will drive out faithfulness to Christ, leading to eternal condemnation, or else the gospel will drive out the occult, leading to salvation. Are you involved in the occult, or are you a faithful servant of God?

Wicca witchcraft calls itself "white witchcraft". This supposedly denotes that Wiccans only do "good" witchcraft. As I see it,


the witches in Wicca have been watching too much Bewitched,
the witches in Wicca have been watching too much I Dream of Jeannie,
the witches in Wicca having been watching too much Sabrina the Good (or Teen) Witch, and
the witches in Wicca having been watching too much Casper the Friendly Ghost.
According to the Bible, there is no such thing as a good witch.

Hence, based on the Bible, ALL witches are wicked--including Wiccans. So Christian...if unholy-wood and a bunch of confused Wiccans tell you that white witches are good, who are you going to believe? Them or the Bible? Just because


a Wiccan believes fairy stories and legends of the Grail don't mean that a Wiccan is harmless or good.
Just because Wiccans gather herbs and dance naked in the moonlight don't mean they are good.
Just because Wiccans worship the Great Mother and are into the earth don't mean that they are good or harmless.
We define good or bad in relation to the Bible and the Bible ALONE.

In this article, we are going to examine some Wiccan beliefs and practices. Any objective person will find that Wicca is made up of fables, vain imagination, paganism, blasphemy, lies, tales, heresay, and a seemingly endless list of ceremonies, magick, sabbats, etc. According to former Wiccan High Priest, Bill Schnoebelen, the serious practitioner of Wicca will find himself going to deeper depths which lead further into the worship of Lucifer aka Satan.

I personally hear from Wiccans, pagans, Satanists, Buddhists, etc.--in other words, I get just about every ingredient in the Devil's mumbo-jumbo gumbo. And each of these groups got something in common-- Lucifer. And the remarkable thing is that many of these groups actually know him by "Lucifer" or some deriviative whether the horned god, Pan (the goat-foot god), Cernunnos, Dionysos, Osiris, Bacchus, etc. The horned god is a phallic (phallic refers to a man's poo-poo) deity of fertility. Why would people worship the devil? Because he offers what they like! "Do what thou wilt shalt be the whole of the law".

wiccan rede (motto/creed): "An' it harm none, Do what thou will."
satanic creed: "Do what thou will shall be the whole of the law"

It is the same thing. Do what you feel like doing.

When you don't believe the word of God, King Jesus will give you over to strong delusion that you should believe a lie. People will get in Wicca and stay in it until it kills 'em. They would rather die than bow the knee to King Jesus. These people are born wicked (just like we all were. you don't have to teach a child to lie and do wrong, it's automatic) and want to stay that way. I was born wicked but one wonderful day I realized what an abomination I was fulfilling the lusts of the mind and of the flesh. I realized that God is holy and I was unholy. My sins were killing me. I'd chase my lusts, but I didn't get satisfied, I just got worse. One fine day, I asked King Jesus TO FORGIVE ME FOR MY NASTY, UNLAWFUL DEEDS. I REPENTED AND GAVE MY LIFE TO HIM. "The horned god" had NO MORE POWER OVER ME. The blood of Jesus demolished his works in my life. But witches say, "we love the horned god". Well, HE HATES YOU just like he hates me and everybody else. That's why you'll never be happy and you will sink in deeper and deeper debauchery and despair. You'll want to get out of the pit and won't be able to. The only way out is to bow the knee to King Jesus. You'll either do it now or on your way to the lake of fire.

Those seeking the truth will come to Jesus and He will clean them up from their filthy deeds and make them beautiful and holy. Whereas the Devil says "Do what you feel like doing, my people!" And the people say "Yeah! Alright!" and go right on in death--fornication, whoredom, abortion, lasciviousness, licentiousness, drunken stupors, astral travel, incubus, magic, necromancy, familiar spirits, hugging trees, seeking hidden/occultic wisdom--anything but worshipping Jesus. All their deeds are earthy, sensual, DEVILISH. You got to read that good ol' King James 1611 in order to understand this dynamic.

THE DEVIL

Lucifer means "Light-bearer". Lucifer is the Devil/Satan/that Old Serpent/the Dragon. Lucifer and Satan are not two different entitites. New Age people are always talking about light and spiritual guides. These deceived people are talking about the Devil and his devils! They are not talking with "Ascended Masters" they are talking with the Devil and his minions. People at the lower levels of these groups may not realize the role of Satan (they don't want to), but the higher ups most certainly do.

"But" some Wiccan witch may protest, "how can I worship Satan if I don't believe he exists?" If you ain't serving Jesus, you serving the devil de facto. WICCANS SAY THAT WICCA IS OLDER THAN "CHRISTIANITY"

Wicca adherents will tell you over and over that Wicca is older than "Christianity" (not a Bible word). Witchcraft is not older than worship of the true God. It came up in OPPOSITION to the worship of the true God.

Nothing is older than the Kingdom of God. The eternal God is the Author and Finisher of His kingdom. Nothing predates Him. From the days of Adam through the present day, God has continuously built a spiritual house composed of living stones--men, women, boys and girls (see I Peter 2:5, Ephesians 2:20-22, 2 Corinthians 6:16, I Corinthians 3:16, 6:19). These are people who have believed in Him in every age, have exercised faith in Him, and have worshipped Him. God is a builder.

Ephesians 2:19-22 Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the HOUSEHOLD of God; And are built upon the FOUNDATION of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the CHIEF CORNER STONE; In whom all the BUILDING fitly FRAMED together GROWETH unto an holy TEMPLE in the Lord: In whom ye also are builded together for an HABITATION of God through the Spirit.
The earthly father of all these stones was Adam. The lineage of Jesus Christ is traced back to Adam in Luke 3:23-38. Before Adam, there was no man...so...no, witchcraft is not older than worship of the true God. It came up in OPPOSITION to the worship of the true God.

WICCANS SAY THAT WICCA IS THE "OLD RELIGION"

Wicca as a group is not old. Wiccans believe the lies that their leaders have taught them. This should be no surprise because their father, the devil, is the "father of lies" (John 8:44). And because they have not received the love of the truth, the Lord has given them over to strong delusion that they should believe, and defend, lies. According Mr. Schnoebelen on page 11 of his book on Wicca--

"Although much of the extant literature written by witches (and Dr. Margaret Murray's work) would lead one to believe that Wicca is a survival of the ancient pagan fertility cults, especially of Northern Europe and the British Isles; there is not a shred of real historical proof for any connection between Bronze Age cults and modern witchcraft."
"...it seemed that Wicca is, in fact, a manufactured religion not much older than this century. There did not seem to be evidence for any Book of Shadows (a combined "bible" and ritual book for Wiccans) much older than the 1910's! [the BoS was probably the result of a collaboration between Gerald Gardner and the notorious Satanist Aleister Crowley, p. 22]"

Although Wicca is new, the forces behind Wicca aren't new. Wicca is the same old wicked devil worship and rejection of God. It's simply been warmed over and served to a spiritually devastated world. People would rather believe lies and do what they want to than believe the Lord and surrender to Him. Consequently they will have no peace. Jesus or hell are the only two choices.

BASICS OF WICCA

Cult name: Wicca.

Founder: Gerald B. Gardner (1884-1964). In 1949 Gardner wrote a book entitled, "High Magic's Aid". He wrote under his witchcraft name "Scire". This novel set the tone for the myth of Wicca. Notice Wicca is based on a fictional book. According to Little White Lie--

"Gardner claimed there were covens of witches in Britain practicing not an anti-Christian religion, but a "pre-Christian" religion. This, he claimed, was called Wicca...
"This he asserted, was the "Old Religion," an animistic worship of the principals of nature and reproduction; rather like a warmed-over rehash of Fraser's anthropological chestnut, THE GOLDEN BOUGH. The gods of this Old Religion were a supreme Mother Goddess who ruled the earth, the moon, the sea, and things agricultural. Her secret name (in his coven anyway) was ARAYDA. There was also a Horned God who ruled the sun and hunting, who was variously called Herne, Cernunnos or Pan.

"Thus, Wicca was not an attack on Christianity, but was supposedly a much older religion whose gods were old when Yahweh of the Bible was in knee pants. According to Gardner, witches worshipped naked (or "skyclad" as he preferred to call it) and were matriarchal..."

Many higher level witches understand that Wicca is a compilation of myths; nevertheless, like Carl Jung they perceive that myths have a life of their own and even if they are not literally true they still have an archetypal power all their own. So a lie can be the truth. But the Bible says--

"no lie is of the truth." I John 2:21

Lower level initiates believe everything they hear and read and will argue you all day long that Wicca is the "Old Religion". Back to Wicca: Satan's Little White Lie--

"It is now a matter of common knowledge that much of Gardner's story is fiction. Yet, most witches aren't bothered by that. Since the seventies, many witches wanted to be totally creative and make up their religion out of their heads--without trying to make any pretentious claims about having "unbroken lines of power" back to medieval "Kings" of the witches. It is easy to see that with values like this, Wicca took off like a rocket among the "hippie" generation... (p. 18-19)

Overview of the group: Wicca claims to be "a back to nature" type religion that worships the sky and earth. It is goddess worship. Some of 'em proudly tote bumper stickers that say, "In Goddess We Trust". Their chief deity is the Great Mother, "Holy Mother Earth". According to Mr. Schnoebelen, there is a certain charm and nostalgic fantasy to Wicca. Wicca transports folks from the high-tech world of today to cultures past, to fantasy, to science FICTION. In other words, they are toted away from REALITY.

WICCA TENETS

Wiccans say Jesus went through individuation, meaning He embraced His "dark side" (p. 34). Jesus ain't go no dark side! He knew no sin (2 Corinthians 5:21)
Wicca has many denominations/sects/traditions. Some are large like the Alexandrian, Gardnerian, Druidic, Welsh Traditionalist, Georgian, Dianic, and Church of Wicca. Others are as small as a single coven of 13 or family tradition.
Satan is a Christian myth.
Wiccans say Wicca means "wise one". Mr. Schnoebelen states that the Oxford English Dictionary defines Wicca as, "twisted, bent, or warped". Wiccan writers admit this on some level (p. 12-13). To this writer, Wicca means "wicked"!
Satanism is just a perversion of Christianity whereas Wicca is an older, purer faith which stood on its own merits.
Neo-pagan writer Tim ("Otter") Zell says it is an "old religion for a new age". A generation that throws off the God of the Bible is deceived enough to embrace a lie that fits in with their lusts, earth worship, spiritual voids, love of science FICTION, romanticism, and adopted legends. In other words, anything that feeds their flesh and don't mean nothing. Vain imagination is the name of the game for the duped.
Non-witches are "cowans".
Many Wiccans start out refusing to do any magick which would influence people against their wills. This oftentimes don't last long.
The Wiccan Rede, is "an it harm none, do what ye will". It is perilously close to the Crowley's (a Satanist) commandment, "Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the law."
WICCA RITES

they think their rites benefit humanity and the earth. Performed to nature deities like Pan, Diana, Cernunnos.
performed rites of passage and initiation--Mr. Schnoebelen stood blindfolded, naked and bound at the edge of the Circle "which is placed between the worlds". He was anointed as a Priest of the Goddess and learned her secret name. "She is supposedly the One 'who was with me from the beginning, and who was attained at the end of desire.'"
For those who would progress further in Wicca they get into a relationship with the Lord of the Underworld, the Dark Lord of Death. This Dark Lord of Death is the darker aspect of Cernunnos or Lucifer, the Horned God of Wicca. As the Wiccan progresses, he is told to essentially embrace the dark side of his nature (the Bible calls it sin) just like the goddess went down to the Lord of Death. Miriam Starhawk, a leading thinker of the Wicca movement wrote,

With the institutionaliation of "Christianity" in the fourth century (Catholicism, I suppose) all the true secrets of Jesus (say He was a witch with a coven of 12 apostles--blasphemy) had been destroyed and that the true, older religion of Wicca had been driven underground.
Lucifer (often known as Bel, Lugh, Herne, Faunus, Pan or Cernunnos) was the true God and that Satan was a boogy-man manufactured by Christians.

The Bible says that their conscience is seared with a hot iron. That means it doesn't work anymore. They are PAST feeling. Anyone who thinks tortured children is good is completely reprobate--and then has the nerve to make it known. I have met some wiccan pagans that act more"Christian", than many Christians I know. i would suggest to not assume that they are evil, as in bad, people. yes, their beliefs are based in the pits of hell, but they don't know that. many (all the ones I know) are more studied in their beliefs than most Christians are in theirs.

My suggestion, again, listen, be a friend. you don't have to condone their religion, to be a friend and witness to them in word AND in deed (Christian lifestyle). It has been my experience with them that they have "experienced" "Christians" and find them to be hypocritical, backbiting, people that don't really practice what they preach, and they preach a lot. So breaking that general stereotype with them may take some time. again, though - that has been my experience with them, may not be that way with these, Kenya.

I think that your advice was generally and overall good.

For myself, there are many variables that could come into play that could make a difference in how to reach this person.

1. How old is the person? (Are they a teenager that wants to follow the crowd and is doing it to be cool or accepted?)
2. How long have they been a christian? (How much do they know and understand of the scriptures?)
3. What happened that they became hurt and/or disillusioned? (Are they angry at God for something that happened or at a person who is a christian and trespassed?)
4. Are they sincere about following God? (If shown God's truth and way about this, would they follow it?)

Unfortunately, whatever it may be, if this person continues on this path and does not turn from it, we know the ultimate outcome.

As you know, Satan disguises himself as an angel of light and goes about to kill, steal and to destroy. This person MUST be made to understand that you CAN NOT mix these things with God's instructions, they are against God.

Working at the college, I've dealt with it alot, even had a close friend that got caught up into it.

Main thing is to point to Christ. Wicca is just a modern term for witchcraft, focused on "white" magic or only the "good", drawing roots as many have pointed out from pagan and naturalist views. Their main focus or main rule is "If it harm no one, do as ye will".

You can't argue the merits of the religion, or point out the faults, that's seen as just a narrow-minded christian view, but just point to Christ. Most of the things that draw people to this are the love and acceptance on the surface, we know that is what Christianity is supposed to be, but they have often been hurt by the church, and are looking for what they need elsewhere.

The focus has to come back around to Christ, His love, His Grace, and His power.
