Thoughts on 4th week of College Football

Postby KBevangelist » September 21st, 2008, 6:12 pm

USC was idle
OU was idle

UGA went to the Pac-10 and won handily. We got Bama next and it will be back in black. Gameday is coming to Athens for the game.

LSU and AUB was a great game. UGA has to play both of these teams.

Missouri, I am ready to see them get into the "thick" of their schedule to see what they are really made of.

Texas also lost their fullback and that could be huge.

FSU lost a kick-fest to Wake Forest. I was hoping FSU would pull it out but it seems they can never get offense going.

Miami won very easily.

Ga Tech beat Miss St. I however don't think that is something to rejoice about for the little bumble bees. And I think Croom is heading out the door.

FL/Tenn - Fl is good and well Tenn is just down. How much longer will Fulmer last in Knoxville

Vandy cracked the top 25 - World is coming to an end

OSt beat Troy and not convincing win either, but a win.

Notre Dame lost to Michigan State and they have Paterno and Penn St next not looking pretty. Weise might want to go ahead have surgery

ECU lost. To me that is not a shocker.

UNC lost a tough fought gameto VaTech.VaTEch needed this win.

What are your thoughts

Bama v. Arkansas: You can't not like a 49-14 win. But, man there were so many breakdowns in coverage that could've gone so badly wrong.... If Arkansas hadn't gift-wrapped the game in turnovers and just not even getting on the field when Bama ran from deep in its own territory, it would've been a very close score.

UGA this week --- if we play as we did against Arkansas, it'll be UGAly for us. But, I'm going to be optimistic. I believe these guys will be ready. We took Georgia to overtime last year. Who improved most, them or us? We did. They were good then and are better now, but we've improved most. But, we're in Athens. So, going with my old the-team-that-should-win-usually-does, you can't pick Alabama to be the fave here. Georgia showed some cracks against Az. State, though. Knowshon is mortal, but he's really good. Stafford, same. We'll have to play our best, better than we played against Clemson in execution, to be in it by the end of the game. I hope it is as close as last year's, or UGA decides to just roll over and submit.

Auburn v. LSU -- Hard hitting like it always is, but both of these teams are nowhere near as good as they could be. LSU has lost a lot on offense. More than I realized before Saturday night. And, they're not great (although they hit hard) on D. When their coverage is good, it is fantastic. Athletic guys making really nice plays. But, when they are off assignment, they are as bad as they are good when they're in place. I was disappointed that LSU is not as strong as they have been. Well, maybe disappointed is too strong a word ---- I was expecting more, but I'm not unhappy about it! Auburn? Defensively, they let an inexperienced QB take them apart in the 2nd half. I don't expect they'll play like that often --- BUT, two years ago when Auburn beat LSU, it was a whale of smackdown game and then #2 Auburn went on to lose to Arkansas 27-10, rebounded against Florida big then lost in an old-fashioned whuppin' to ..... Georgia, finishing 11-2. Not bad, but that team could've been perfection. This one isn't. I don't know if Auburn is going to recover from this. We'll see. I hope not. 8)

Florida-UT: Florida got lucky.

Okay, that was uncalled for. 8) Look, UT is having an off year. The thing with Tennessee is when they have one, they don't have 5-8 in a row. They'll be fine. They'll get their chance to take it out in Crimson Hide when we go to Knoxville in a few weeks. They'll be ready; they always are. Like him or hate him, Fulmer WILL be ready for that game.

Vandy 4-0. How much life does this battery have in it? When they get play Auburn on 10/4. Go 'Dores! (We need all the help we can get in the West.)

I didn't get to see any whole games.. I turned the radio off after MS State ran the ball for 71 yards to the 9 and then couldn't do anything at all.

I really like Croom the guy, but Croom the coach is very puzzling and I don't know how much longer we can take this AWFUL offense. Is there a team in D1 that is any worse? I don't know... It looked like the defense said we are tired of working our stinking rearends off while y'all can't even make 1 third down conversion. I was told we went 0-15 on third downs against Auburn. I haven't looked that up.. I just HOPE that State is not playing LSU on TV. We are going to get mutilated. The offense is worse than Starkville High School and defense is just tired of doing everything. They had to score just so State wouldn't be shut out against Auburn.

That's sad... The offense seems to be getting worse not better. And Croom's decision to go for on 4th down at midfield was just crazy. We might have been able to pin them in if he had punted. But I digress....

UGA won but ASU isn't really much. A number 3 team in the PAC 10 with USC just dominating that conference.

Vandy is not the whipping dog of the SEC anymore. MS State seems to have taken that from them if State doesn't do something.

Hey Dolphan, at least Alabama's first penalty didn't come until 5:37 left in the 3rd quarter. That pretty good....

There was a lot to be happy about in the Bama game, and the penalties (or the lack of them) is one. Saban said today that just because you're not sick doesn't mean you can't get better. I like that.

I'm sorry about Croom. I just shook my head last week when they played Auburn and he went for that 4th and 15. You will be back. And, you will get a new coach--soon for you I hope.

Care to start speculating. As a Bama fan, I can tell you that's loads of consolation when you're down!

Some names I think are worth watching:
1. Chan Gailey
2. Aaron Price
3. Wil Muschamp

Um, Gailey got fired from GT and his KC Chiefs are horrible...as evidenced by the shelacking they received from the Falcons. I don't think his resume is going to get him a job in the SEC any time soon. He'll be a coordinator in the NFL for his career. If they want a good coach, they're going to have to ante up...does MSU have the money for that? They should go after BC's coach...Coach Jag...he's a good one.

Has anyone else noticed that since Miami and VT joined the ACC that the entire league has gotten better except FSU? I'm speaking of Duke and Wake stepping up and GA Tech. The other teams seem to be the same but FSU is no longer the power house.

I've always been a Chan Gailey guy. You have a good point about his HC record in college. His successes have been in the NFL (mixed). I just like the guy. He coached at Samford after Terry Bowden left there to go to Auburn, and he was the OC for the Steelers when they played the Cowboys last time. I just like him.

What about Lane Kiffin? The Raiders will fire him and he'll be available. Was OC at Southern Cal before that. Saban tried to hire him at Bama, but he got the Raiders job. He'd be a big get. Or, worse, what if Auburn fires Tuberville and he goes there --- or UT fires Fulmer and gets him. Ugh. I don't like either one of those scenarios.

I don't think Tuberville is going anywhere. I do think Fulmer is going somewhere unless he can turn somethings around.

Will Muschamp is a UGA guy. I was hoping he would find his way back home. He will be a head coach somewhere. A good one at that
