Anyone Read Patricia Cornwell??

Postby Gerald Creasy » October 9th, 2008, 10:27 am

I never had but stumbled across a yard sale with the complete Andy Brazil series and the first 12 of the Kay Scarpetta series ALL in very good or new shape FOR LESS THAN THE PRICE OF ONE BOOK.

After reading 50 pages...I like her writing style but she is quite free with the foul language.

Anyone read her books?

Yep. I love her earlier books. Her last five books in the Scarpetta series have not been as great.

She is the one that created the current buzz of forensic mysteries (novels and tv shows). Her earlier work was incredible. I have never read her Andy Brazil series. Mom likes them.

Patricia Cornwell is an interesting person. She was partially raised by Billy Graham and his wife. She even wrote a biography of Ruth. Patricia is bipolar, and of course suffers depression and has recently come out and acknowledged that she has embraced a life as a lesbian after years of denying the rumors. However, she is a strong supporter of the Republican party and a few Democrats.

I've read everything she's written except the non-fiction and I totally agree about the language. It's the one thing that I don't care for in her writing. I'm a fan nonetheless. I also agree with MrDanger in that I think her earlier works are better than the past few.

I've read quite a few of her books...enjoyed them. Haven't read anything recently though.

I wonder if there is a study on biplolarism in Women and the ratio of lesbians among bipolars. My ex was bipolar and struggled with lesbian tendancies.

ANyway.

Y'all have my curiosity peaked and I am looking forward to reading my stack of Yard Sale find books.

I read one of her Scarpetta books, can't remember which one, and thoroughly liked it. My sister in law was a big fan. She wrote another novel a few years back about some crazy plot involving a state trooper and a blog and some barrier island off the Virginia coast. It was bizarre, and it was bad. Just awful. (Isle of Dogs??? Can't remember.) So, I haven't read any of her stuff since then.

Isle of Dogs was an Andy Brazil story. I heard it wasn't good. I haven't read any of the series though. Scarpetta ones are good. Even the later ones are good even if they aren't as good as the beginning of the series.

I started with the Brazil series.

I like the way PC writes but some of the charactes seem Cartoony.
example: A "Bubba" named Bubba, over weight, ugly, gun enthusiast, rebel flags on the mudflaps of his big truck. And he hates queers.

Can't you almost imagine him being portaryed by one of Scrooge McDucks Beagle Boy villians?

Sterotype on steoids.

And it is possible, being that I was raised sheltered in COGOP that I am naieve....but I can't imagine everyone being sexually attracted to everyone. Andy is Attracted to the chief and maybe the deputy chief, and everyone, man and woman and obscene phone caller alike is after Andy.
