Tyrone Willingham was forced to resign

All I can say is , it is about time.

I just hope we can bring someone in with recruiting power and can take our program out of the toilet and bring it back to some sort of resemblance that it used to be.

I am shocked it took this long. He just is not that great of a coach. I don't think he can handle the pressure of a big time U.

me too. Funny, CNN & EPSN are reporting that Willingham has resigned, yet the quotes from the local news station make it seem more like a firing.

Associated Press

SEATTLE - Tyrone Willingham and Scott Woodward sat side by side, no more than a few feet apart and looking in the same direction. But Washington's now-fired football coach and the new athletic director who forced him out were far from together.

Cold? Instead of microphones, these two should have been speaking into ice picks.

Willingham took his normal place at his weekly news conference on Monday, then flatly announced: "We have come to a decision that at the end of the 2008 football season they will move in another direction with the head football coach at this university."

Yet Willingham didn't come to that decision at all.

Woodward, university president Mark Emmert and the thousands of Washington fans and alumni disgusted at the Huskies being 0-7 and 11-32 in Willingham's three-plus seasons as coach did.

When asked if this was his decision, the stone-faced Willingham said, "Uh, no."

When asked if he ever considering resigning, Willingham was even quicker to say, "No. It's just not in my makeup."

It was an odd, awkward day

In any event, I am glad he is gone.

Unfortunately, he is here until seasons end, then takes his $1million "retirement" package and his losing ways and hits the road.

I would like to see the O-coordinator & D-coordinatar replaced as well. Rumors are swirling that Jim Mora is interested, but since he has been tabbed to be the next Seahawks coach next year, I think they are only rumors.

A complete over-haul is needed and that is unfortunate. We have a blue-chip QB, Jake Locker, who's talents are being wasted on a underperforming team. I hope we can salvage his last 2 years of eligiblity.

Lane Kiffin is interested. He said it's a good job and a lot of people would be interested in it. He must be a west coast guy. I think he's a get, and I think he'd very soon be a contender in the Pac 10.
