MrDanger wrote:No. He should not go. Why? Simple. In 17 years, we have had 1 losing season. This may be number 2. How many other coaches can say the same. I don't live in the past, but he has one us a National Championship title also.
I believe the AD should sit him down, have a long discussion of his plan of action to fix the problem and to put UT back where it is at least competitive with Florida and Georgia in the SEC East. That's all that can be asked of him. If he doesn't have a viable plan, thank him for his service and let him go. Otherwise, what fools they would be to let him go.
All these people that want him to go need answer a simple question. Who is it you want to coach?
Kiffin? Really? What has he done as a head coach? Where is his proven track record?
Tuberville? Really? He's in the same situation Fulmer is in? Wouldn't that be trading across rather than up?
I do agree I'm ready to see that old fire back in Fulmer's eyes. He had grown complacent.
But I bet all those Penn State fans are glad now that people didn't listen to them and fire JoePa.
Will we beat S.C.? Doubt it. But I do see us beating Wyoming and Kentucky and having a shot at Vandy. That would be 6 - 6 and bowl worthy. A lot of schools would kill for that. Not UT standards, but it would at least give us something to grow on next year.
The last thing a UT fan wants to hear is an Alabama fan's opinion. So, maybe I should wait to say this....

..... but I thing Fulmer is right where he needs to be and I think he's the guy UT needs. I'll do the gossipy who-da-coach-gonna-be thing as much as the next person, because I love college football and coaching carousels are things of marvel when you're in a bye week or playing a non-conference puff opponent at homecoming, and of course during the off season. BUT, having qualified myself on that,
why would a man who has had a .750 winning percentage over 17 years get the boot after one lousy season. Not that he shouldn't be questioned (he should) or second-guessed, not that the fans don't have a right to expect excellence in their team and program (they have that right and they've earned it at UT), but look at the guy who brought it to you. I'll make the same point that I would say to people at AU eager to fire Tuberville, who is on par with Fulmer as far as wins per season and number of SEC Championships in 10 years --- what you had before didn't get it done. This guy has brought home the goods. There can only be, in any one stretch of time, one or two teams in this conference that will win multiple SEC championships. Okay, that's been Florida and LSU of late. Well, LSU's not looking so great this year are they, when compared to the last 5 years? And, when Tebow leaves Florida and as teams defend the spread better (and they already are --Ole Miss), the East is going to have room at the top against UGA again. Now, who other than UT is realistically going to compete in the SEC East? Nobody. You guys played in the SEC Championship Game last year. I just don't see it. I know Phil Fulmer is not a young, sexy name, but neither is Joe Paterno.
To both UT and AU fans who want the razzle-dazzle of some innovative offense, and coaches that'll bring it, please remember that this IS the SEC, and our defenses will probably always sort those gadgety offenses out in relatively short order. UT has always recruited size well. They keep doing that, they'll be fine and fans will be happy with the overall results, I think. Of course, I hope you get disappointed at least one time each October.
