Another Stimulus Check?

Do you think we are going to get another stimulus check before the end of the year? Will it be from Bush or Obama?

I can tell you this, it won't be from Obama, he has no authority to issue checks until he is sworn in to office. That wont happen until after the New Year.

Obama urged Bush to bring up another stimulas bill to congress before the years out when he met with him today. Don't know if Bush will, but if he does not, Obama has said it will be the first priority of his administration.

I like getting checks as much as anyone, but this is a bad idea. It's not about stimulating the economy (if you doubt that, just look at what wonders the first check did for the economy ).

It's about getting people (many of whom have paid no taxes to refund) used to getting these checks a couple times a year. It's just welfare under a new name.

Yes, it was a bad idea. I was against it. I was disappointed in the Bush administration for putting it on the table and in the Congress for supporting it.

I've heard, though, that Obama's stimulus package will be about spending on infrastructure and putting unemployed people to work. If that's the case, your claim about its purpose is false. If it's not the case, it's the exact same mistake the Republican president made.

I hope that is true. I'd support that. We need to build new bridges, new roads, nuclear power plants(which I know Obama will never do), new dams, etc. It would create jobs and rebuild crumbling infrastructure.

If you'll reread the thread, angelmom's orginal question was about the stimulus CHECK, not his overall economic stimulus PLAN. You are the one that broadened the scope of the thread to include his entire stimulus package. In making my welfare comment, I referred only to the checks, to comment on angelmom's original post.

Why not just send every man woman and child a million dollars? That would surely help the economy, pay off bills and allow people to invest the capital where THEY want to put it.

Send the checks to us instead of bailing out companies that can't stay a float with 800+ Billion dollars.

I don't want their welfare. I refuse to be part of this crap. I am not going to complain about something and then go along with cashing the check.
That is why we are in the mess we are in.

This is like churches. We have business meetings to decide on financial matters and the guy who doesn't give or gives the least wants to yell the loudest about the way the money is spent.

I am sick to death of this junk......Just send it back or don't complain about what a bad idea it is.

I put mine in an interest bearing account so that it mitigates for me the inflationary effect of the stimulus checks. At some distant point in the future the check and its interest will become real principal (the money doesn't actually exist now; it has been stolen from the labor of future generations). Maybe when it's real money I'll be willing to give it back. Until then, it is a long-term theft from my wallet through inflation, so I decided to fight back by earning interest on it to compensate.
