Watch that TIDE roll!

Postby Poimen » November 15th, 2008, 5:53 pm

32 - 7 over MS State!

And that was without an offensive drive resulting in a score until 4th quarter.
Albeit, props to the MS State defense. Those guys were tough. Probably the hardest defense we've faced this year.

ROLL TIDE!!!

Our offense was simply abysmal. JPW didn't have any rhythm, didn't look off his receivers, was his old happy-footed self and had a terrible night. MSU didn't do anything to stop us, really. We were just bad. A lot of work to do before facing Auburn, and right now, the prospect of Florida in the SEC game? Please. If we play no better than twice as good as we did tonight, we get slaughtered by 21 or more. Now I know why Saban cussed on the radio Thursday night to get the fans into the game. These guys are tapped out, and JPW is a head-case waiting to explode. And, he needs a big-boy haircut.

IF we won it all. Big ol' IF! (It ain't happenin'.)

But, let's pretend it did. I don't pretend that Saban is in love with Alabama in any romantic Bear-Bryantish way. He's practical. That is one thing I absolutely love about the guy. Where would he go is my question? Highest bidder? I don't know; he took a pay cut to take the Bama job. He was making more with the Dolphins. So, while money talks loudly, I don't think that, alone, is the thing that moves him. He wants to succeed wherever he is. There are only a handful of places he could do that, making about the same or more money, on as big a platform and with as much support from the fans. It would be a lateral move anywhere he went, and I don't see Saban as a laterally moving guy at 56 years old.

Now, I could be kidding myself, and hedging against that possibility, I'll suggest a few places he'd possibly be attracted to, with the right money being a given.

1. Notre Dame. (He's Catholic)

2. West Virginia. (It's home)

3. LSU (Yeah, I think it could happen in the universe of possibilities)

4. Texas. (It's just so big.)

5. Tennessee. (Just because. I don't know why he'd make that move at this point in his career, but then again, I didn't think he'd have us where we are this fast, either. It'd certainly be a challenge to him, and I think that would be the biggest reason he'd be interested in it.)

Tonight, at a touchdown club in Mobile, Saban said:

"There's no better place to coach than Alabama,'' Saban said. "There's no better place to be than Alabama." Earlier today, he said in his press conference that things that people had told him about Alabama before he came here were not true, and that he's found that, contrary to what he was told, it is not a hard place to coach. "It is not that way at all," he said.

All that makes me suspicious!

If he wins 9 games a year or more, on average, and beats either Auburn or Tennessee each year, there'll be no end to the honeymoon.
