Food or drink that is not sold everywhere

Postby Shellie » December 3rd, 2008, 5:32 am

When I go home to Kentucky, I always have to have Moby Dick's fish and White Castle's hamburgers because I cannot get them south of Kentucky.

I also buy two things to bring back with me because they cannot be bought in Florida either.

Pickled bologna and Nehi peach soda.

What are some of the food and drinks that you have to buy in other states because they are not available in yours?

I miss Cheerwine from NC. You can find it in TN but it is very, very, difficult. I know of only one gas station that carries it.

Smithfield's BBQ in NC
I love that sauce

I would say Dunkin Donuts but they have recently built those all over the place here.

PO Folks in Georgia and Alabama

We have White Castle in Nashville; that's south of Kentucky.

I LOVE fried pickles but they are not an easy item to find. We at least have them in our state, just not a lot of places offer them. My wife loves them also and even more now that she is pregnant.

We too always get Moby Dick and I used to bring back diet Big Red. I'm not much of a carbonated beverage drinker any longer. If I go by myself, I go to White Castle, Jeffery's not to keen on it. Also, when in Louisville we go to Huber's for fried biscuits.

FQ, I did think about the WC in Nashville, but we don't go that way to get to KY so the closet one in my route is Ky.

Brandon, fried pickles are a bit hit in Florida and they are awesome...but expensive.

That's one that we always did growing up in IL, but now that I live down here, we don't really keep it, just grab it once in awhile when I'm at a gas station or something.

My Mom is from WV, and we always pick up Mr. Bee's potato chips from up there, I don't really eat potato chips that much at all, but those are good, we found some similar in taste (but thicker and harder) in IL right before we moved which were Lay's kettle cooked, but I can't find them around here either.

LOVED Nehi Peach growing up, but it's always been hard to find.

Love them, but they are non-existent here in Washington St.

as well as Cracker Barrell.

I didn't know we still have Po Folks in Georgia. Our's closed 20 years ago, and I haven't seen one since then.

And Shellie, who need's White Castle when you've got Krystal burgers? MMMMMMMMM.....

I LOVE Welch's Grape Soda, but it can be really hard to find anywhere.

I know of only one - it's in Woodstock on Hwy 92 off of I-575. It was the precursor to Cracker Barrell and I loved it.

I miss Jenkins Deli down here. I also love Kan Pai and they closed the one down here - not sure if the Chattanooga one is still open or not. I know it was always packed with people.

Shellie, I know you told me they have Mayfield down here, but I've yet to see it anywhere. And that is some great ice cream!

My wife loves Cracker Barrell. I believe she could eat there everyday and it is worse with her cravings.

No Krystal burger here but when I see one traveling further south I always stop.

I grew up in the south (VA) but when I lived in PA I found a new world of diner food...There is nothing like rice pudding that they make in a northern diner!
