Bibleguy,

I wonder if you cling as close to your "anti-paganism" soapbox when it comes to the paganism accepted as American Christianity???

Do you rant about Santa Claus and cling to T D Jakes and his Modalism?

Do you scream about Christmas trees and embrace "Word of Faith" occultism?

I just wonder how thourough you are in your campaign.

I can't believe I forgot the NEW TESTAMENT reference of James' words echoing Jeremiah's sentiment. Sorry for the omission in my last post:

“Known unto God are all his works from the beginning of the world. Wherefore my sentence is, that we trouble not them, which from among the Gentiles are turned to God: But that we write unto them, that they abstain from pollutions of idols, and [from] fornication, and [from] things strangled, and [from] blood” (Acts 15:18-20).

If that is the criteria, then so far I'm batting 1000. I am willing to denounce any pagan influence on the pure doctrine of Christ. I say that, fully understanding that, at some time, it may be pointed out to me that some remnant yet lingers in my own understanding. At such a time, I too will be faced with a choice, to cling to the nostalgia of an adopted belief or custom I inherited from my (perhaps well-meaning, though fallible) spiritual ancestors, or walk in new light as it is revealed, and lay aside those things which have had thier ungodly origins manifested.

That is always a tough position to be in, but God willing, I'll always let God be true, regardless of what men have said.

Not a personal insult to you TW but i bet there were folks with that same mentality when righteous men like those those thoughout the bible who proclaimed the truth and RIGHTEOUSNESS of God to the masses. I am quite sure there were plenty of folks who thought just as you, "who are you to tell me what I should or shouldn't do"?

Now to be clear, I do NOT agree with bibleguy's findings about Santa being pagan and therefore something christians should avoid. Santa rocks! :) But Jesus IS THE ROCK!!!!

Great. So what do you call the months and days of the week?

Not weak, you are just missing his point. If you are not going to have anything to do with anything with pegan origin then you need to not go by the months or days since they are pegan related.

I'm sure if you dig hard enough you will find some evil in anything. That is the enemy job, take what is good and turn it into something evil or harmful.

But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word.

Not at all. He made a claim, and I believe him to sincere, but I doubt if he is as consistent as he claims. The names of weekdays and months are pagan in origin. If you call the fifth ay of the week "Thursday" (Thor's day) you might as well have a Christmas tree.

As often as I can, I use the Russian names:

понедельник (roughly translated "week starter")
вторник (second day)
среда (middle)
четверг (fourth)
пятница (fifth)
суббота (sabbath)
воскресение (resurrection)

Amazing how even an atheist country has not abandoned its holdovers from the early Christian influences...

You are absolutely correct, the English language has carried over pagan words and ideas, and all of them will ultimately have to be purged from our language. Perhaps in the millenium? I don't think Jesus is going to have church on Woden's day night...

Let's try church steeples for $500? :D I say your church doesn't have one or you don't know the origin.

:goodjob: You got it! No steeples. (Man you're good, can I owe you the $500?)

We lucked out when we got our latest church house, and didn't have to tear one off. *whew* :D

You have just rendered your Old Testament model moot. According to the OT the Sabbath is the seventh day, according to your calender it is the sixth. Now let me ask you upon which day do you attend worship service? And please don't use the dodge that you worship God everyday, I think that almost everybody on the board could make that claim. What day do you go to church on?

BTW, Merry Christmas.

      funny but Gary is right. But the world over here know them as they are called now and doesn't know or care if there is any other meaning to them. Many of the things of the pass have no special meaning today and thus have become irrelevant.

Many of our names have a base in old gods, but that doesn't means we have any thing to do with those gods. My thoughts
God Bless

Well, OBVIOUSLY the Russian (it's not my calendar) counting of the weeks is dealing with the work week. Воскресенье (resurrection) marks the first day of the liturgical week.

But, I find it funny how every effort has been made to discredit the messenger, and virtually no effort at all has been made to defend the adoption of pagan practices in our worship to the Almighty. (Except for the all-important "We like it" defense.)

I assume it is because taking on the ways of the heathen is biblically indefensible.

Shall I wish you a happy birthday to you, too, TW?
