bibleguy,
I'm sorry that we have gotten off to such a poor start. Perhaps a bit of explanation is in order. Every year, some newby comes on here and informs all of us about how we are being pagans. This may come as a shock to you, but we've heard it all before. Every argument that you have brought forward, every verse that you have quoted. What you don't seem to understand is that while we enjoy the Christmas hoilday, we have not elevated it to the status of "Holy Day." The arguement that we are using pagan worship simply doesn't wash.

And you can wish me a Happy Birthday any day that you want to.

Now, you still have not answered the question of which day you go to church. I will ask it one more time, as directly as possible; ARE YOU A SABBATARIAN? If you are not then you are guilty of trying to pick and choose what parts of the OT you will observe, and what parts you will reject.

I guess you're right. Since it's all been said before, it is therefore not relevant. :?

No, I'm not a Sabbatarian. You mistake my stand against pollution of idols for legalism. See, if you can accuse me of being a legalist, then you can dismiss everything. Still, the lack of support (Old or New Testaments) for the adoption of pagan practices (conforming to the world) is astonishing.

The law had a shadow of good things to come. The law was a schoolmaster. The Old Testament ... well, no doubt you've heard all of that before.

No, my brother, I only desire to contend earnestly for the faith that was once given to the saints. It is that purity that I long for, and am ever surprised by the resistance to it.

I am sure that this topic has been breached before, and with more eloquence no doubt, and with a better assortment of Scripture.

So, nothing means anything. We can take up all the ways of the pagans, and simply use the "we're not worshipping" clause. Buddha statues in the garden, statues of saints on the half-shell, native-american vision quests... Is there a line?

“And ye shall not walk in the manners of the nation, which I cast out before you: for they committed all these things, and therefore I abhorred them.” (Le 20:23 AV)

Am I a fool because I desire to see God's people answer the call which Paul set forth in Romans 12:1-2? “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, [which is] your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what [is] that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.” (Ro 12:1-2 AV)

NO, brethren, we have adopted the ways of this world and conformed for too long. We need to fulfilll not just the good will, neither merely the acceptable will but even the perfect will of God.

“Let us go on unto perfection... And this will we do, if God permit.” (Heb. 6:1-3)

bibleguy wrote:... I am willing to denounce any pagan influence on the pure doctrine of Christ. I say that, fully understanding that, at some time, it may be pointed out to me that some remnant yet lingers in my own understanding. At such a time, I too will be faced with a choice, to cling to the nostalgia of an adopted belief or custom I inherited from my (perhaps well-meaning, though fallible) spiritual ancestors, or walk in new light as it is revealed, and lay aside those things which have had thier ungodly origins manifested.

That is always a tough position to be in, but God willing, I'll always let God be true, regardless of what men have said.

It amazes me that you want to take such a hard line approach to what is in actuality a secular holiday. Claiming that anyone that does not mirror your thought process is employing pagan worship. That this goes against the OT model that you hold so dear. Yet you reject a direct command from God, written by His own hand in stone. How can you justify that action? Do not God's commandments apply to you? Or, are you free to pick and choose what you will accept and what you will reject? You seem to be trying to interpret the meanings of the words of an OT prophet to support your view while rejecting a clearly stated commandment from God (no interpretation needed). It should prove interesting how you attempt to reconcile that.
