A million seconds is 11.5 days. What is a trillion seconds?

1 million seconds = 11.5 days
1 billion seconds = 32 years

Anyone care to guess or calculate how many years a trillion seconds is? (This is for a sense of perspective on a trillion dollars.)

That's right.

1 million seconds = 11.5 days
1 billion seconds = 32 years
1 trillion seconds = 31,711 years

I saw the rounded figures at CNN.com and confirmed them with my calculator.

Tim, you failed math! :lol:

1,000,000 sec = 11.57407407 days
1.000.000,000 sec = 31.68808781 years
1,000,000,000,000 sec = 31,688.08781 years

You failed to consider decimal fractions smaller than a tenth, and leap years.

Not quite as bad as your "example." :roll:

1 Trillion $1 bills, stacked, would reach roughly 1/4 of the way to the moon. 67,800+/- miles. The moon is 238,800+/- miles from Earth.

The best example of a trillion I heard recently is that if you were to spend 1 million dollars per DAY, it would take you 2,737.90926 years to reach a trillion dollars.

If you started spending the day Christ was born, you would still have over 700 YEARS to spend to get to a trillion!
