In a few years.....

Postby Rob » February 8th, 2009, 4:40 am

Baseball with start a new Hall. Hall of Shame. Sorry Paully, I know your the big baseball guy on here, but everytime I start having a glimmer of hope for baseball, I get smacked again, this time with A-Rod. I mean Mac, Clements, Giambi, Bonds, Andy P., now A-Rod, where does it stop man?

When does college football camps start?

Hopefully, when Baseball actually wises up and actually imposes stiff penalties for drug abuse. Unfortunately, the drug problem is present in all sports its just that baseball chose for so long to not put stiff penalites on the offenders. The test, is 6 years old, back when baseball said No to drugs, but there were no penalties if one was caught. Athletes are always looking for an advantage. Whether it was through legal means like Caffine, breath right strips, Viagra etc or the illegal kinds like speed, coke or roids. They have been doing it for decades. The powers that be should have been more concerned with cleaning up the sport rather than the almight dollar.

I love baseball, most people who know me know that about me. That said, I dont think MLB as handled this whole drug problem the right way for decades. To have a drug policy that does not include penalties is a joke.

That said, I am still excited for Feb. Pitchers and catchers report in a week. Spring Training is just around the corner. Little League starts real soon. My son & I have been out at the fields all this week getting ready. His first year of kid pitch. That is where baseball is played in its purest form.
Let the wild rumpus start!

Probably the only place it is played in its purest form!

Paully, I use to be a die-hard Pro baseball fan, and a die-hard Pittsburgh Pirate Fan. But if they never played a pro game again it would not hurt my feelings at all. I want them to play Little League, High School, Babe Ruth Legion, College, but not pro ball.

All these guys that have lied under oath that they never used illegal drugs. Give me a break. I know that they cheat in other sports as well, but why has baseball continued to drag their feet about cleaning up the game, that in my opinion use to be America's past-time. Well it's past-time the powers that be clean up the game or you stand to lose an entire generation of fans.

Baseball used drugs like they used Babe Ruth. To hit more home runs to get the people to the parks $$$$$ And that is sad because people who love the game would still come even if it small ball.

Where do they go from here?

He supposedly tested positive in 2003. Why is this just now news? As Jeter said, since when is an anonymous test not anonymous?

I say we should back off a minute cause this could be hogwash.

I don't care that he did steroids. I don't care that any of them did, at least from a sports point of view. Doesn't tarnish the game one bit for me (and I don't hate baseball, I'm just not interested much). Lyle Alzado, Mike Golic, many other football players used them. I don't care. Doesn't mean anything to me in terms of the game.

I have a problem with it been an anonymous test. Who would take a test knowing that they have taking those drugs. Even if said,it's an anonymous test. Then whomever releasing this infomation. It was to be for a test only to see if they need to start testing
What a joke

So you don't care if to say, Dallas Cowboys offense line all take riod's and got bigger and bigger in so that they pushed the defence line around and win the Superbowl and everybody know this....Just to say

If it's not against the rules then they can use them if they choose.

I mean it's like if the Cowboys eat cake for breakfast and the Bears eat Wheaties. Who will be in better shape? Both breakfasts are within the rules. To each his own.

It's like saying that the Babe would have had more homers if he had access to the weight rooms and trainers that today's players do. Well maybe so but he didn't.

drugs

Postby dalebert » February 10th, 2009, 4:14 am

Im not for or totally against the use of control drugs in sports. The owners have put the players in the position of preforming beyond a players best by adding more games to the season, more bonus if a player goes beyond his contract, more pressure to start and make big numbers etc. In order for the best player to stay the best , they must do sometime greater than the next player.
How many games did the "Babe" play in a season? "Cobb"? "Mays"? The list goes on....the thing is ..if the drug is illegal , against the laws of the land....then no matter who is using it and gets caught....well u know the rest of the story. I had a college pro tell our class once that there is only one thing that is illegal and that is a "sick bird"...its only illegal when u get caught!

So do you believe that Mark McGwire would have hit 70 home run without taking steroids? And that Barry Bonds would have broken Hank Aaron's record without taking steroids? So taking performance enhancing drugs doesn't tarnish a record?

Here's my problem with it all

Postby Rob » February 10th, 2009, 4:28 am

For A-Rod to look Katie Couric in the eye and say "I've never used performance enhancing drugs", for Rafael Palmeiro to point his finger at Congressmen and say "I've never used performance enhancing drugs", for Mark McGwire, to say "I'm not here to talk about the past, but the future," for Roger Clements to say, "I've never used HGH or performance enhancing drugs", for Barry Bonds to face perjury charges for lying to federal prosecutors. That's the problem I have. These guys have been busted and now A-Rod apologizes, why? In my opinion because he got caught. I wonder if the old line, "Once a cheater always a cheater" applies to this?

Illegal drugs is one thing. MOST of the banned substances or the substances in question are not illegal just expensive.
