According to this (unconfirmed but reliable) post on Facebook:

"Janice Kay Petty Slaton is thinking of a wonderful lady singing with the angels! Gerdia Shewmaker passed away this morning...she had a heart valve replacement recently, and did not make it back home....she had such an impact on my life...I traveled with her evangelizing in '68, will always remember 'Leroy cookies', and her singing 'Swing low, sweet chariot, coming for to carry me home.' Knockout smile, dancing eyes..memories anyone?"

Very sad news. "Sister Gert" had a huge impact upon thousands.
"God is excited to show you mercy. He rises to give you His compassion." (Isaiah 30:18)

Sister Gerdia was a lovely lady and I have fond memories of visiting her church in Texas and she visiting ours to evangelize several times.

What years did you visit her church?

Yes sir. A fantastic minister, great personality, so much fun, and could bring the house down singing. She is the first person I heard sing, "Lord, Don't Move That Mountain."

I am one of those former COGOP'ers who wasn't around it long enough to know a lot of people who I probably should've and wish I had. Obviously, this lady is one. I just felt kind of silly posting about Michael Jackson's death when the one with all the real treasures had passed and had gone ignored by me. What a contrast. God bless this family.

He did and many other that knew her. Such a sweet Sister and lady. She blessed us when she came to Russellville Al.
