On the debate about modesty, and what that means, let's zero in on one specific case:

The Bible absolutely forbids men and women swimming together as immodest.

How about option 4. Should a man swim with a homosexual?

As long as the homosexual is a woman, there is no problem. Oh wait...that would be mixed bathing. I'm confused. :?

mixed bathing issue...

Postby Dr. Ron » August 26th, 2009, 1:47 pm

Well, let's see ..is the issue mixed bathing or mixed bathing in bathing suits?

We assume that everyone who goes swimming does so in a revealing bathing suit....there fore intended to entice "who knows" and not for the sake of swimming.....however, when the "sport" of swimming becomes an issue, we usually take a different view....I remember ALL the posters on this board when the olympics were on....no one minded the skimpy outfits worn by the gymnasts or the swimmers or runners.,,

Generally I have found in my 50 years of ministry, whatever a person yells the loudest about, they have a problem in that area.....Shakespear would say.."me thinks he doth protest too much"....or something like that....

If you can't keep your mind off lust long enough to enjoy a swim....spend your time locked in your prayer closet and get that under the blood.....for Pete's sake.....and btw, I go swimming topless.

Once, in a Fayetteville, NC motel pool, in a WCS galaxy far, far away, I went bottomless.

I voted #3 - assuming we're all wearing blue jeans, of course.

I can't for the life of me figure out why this is such a big issue.

We are, for the most part, grown christian adults. Freed from the slavery of sin. I can choose to look at women as sexual objects or not...it is my choice. I can choose to look at them as sisters in Christ that need encouragement, acceptance, and usefulness based upon something other than their appearance...or not.

Sure women are pretty...but so is a brand new truck, a big fish on the end of my fishing line, Homeade blackberry cobbler or a big plate of home cooked fried chicken.

Beauty may only be skin deep...but ugly goes to the bone...and looks fade just like trucks rust and cobbler gets cold.
I want to die like Grandpa, quietly and in his sleep; not like the passengers in his car, they were all panicking and screaming.

Lets face facts here, the majority of these posts about immodesty has pointed the finger at the woman.

Ok I'll defend you.  What about those guys who wear Speedos with that "bulge" in the front? Is that immodest? :D

Ha...I noticed no one answered that...till now! (Nice to see you again! ;) )

They don't do a thing for me, I've seen all types of men in a Speedo, and not a one looked good in it. As for modesty, women have bumps and bulges too.

Apparently the truth of God, no mix bathing, is not reaching the lost among us.

I guess a few things would factor into it:

Are they dressed modestly?

Are their spouses present?

Are they single?

This is silly.

Ron, back when you used to preach against all these things, was it because you thought that it was wrong are was it because you were haveing a problem with them in that area?

When people believe that something is wrong from the bible stand on it, doesn't means that person is haveing a problem with that area.

I preach and teach against all kinds of sin, yet I don't have a personal problem with any or all of the sins, but because I feel that is what God has given me at that time to preach. Paul said it this way.

1Co 9:26
I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as one that beateth the air:
1Co 9:27
But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.

It is my daily relationship with Christ that helps me keep my body under subjection. I feel that a person should be able to preach/teach what they feel is wrong by the standard of the bible without being taunted for making a stand for righteouness. In other words under the way you are saying this then the quite sneaky ones would walk right into heaven.

I thing that you missed the mark in order to promote liberalism.

BTW I'm not mad at you but want you to just think about that statement. I've heard it before by other. Old saying doesn't always measure up to their hype.
God Bless

You are right, it is RIDICULOUS to expect to go to heaven a place that host the GOD ALL MIGHTY, THEN MOST HOLY, AND THE RIGHTEOUS of all, dress or undressed, talk, walk, act, and just be another part of the "world". I'm not worried what you think is OK, but what God thinks is OK. The measure that I know by is the Word of God. I don't care what any "inlighten" one may say. Was not Eve inlighten when she ate of the fruit of the "Knowledge of good and evil"?Guess who was behind that enlightment.

BTW I see nothing wrong with a spa if it is put in the right place. Its not the material that is wrong most of the time, but how we use it. What could be a blessing to some would be a curse to another, depending on how used.

The apostle Paul wrote;

2Co 7:1
¶ Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.

Were is "Holiness" gone today? I don't see it in the way that folks dress, talk, walk. and act. What has happen to "perfecting holiness in the fear of God".

Much to the dismays of many, the Word of God does read the same in California as it does here in the Southeastern US, India, Japan, other counties. One would do good to look inside of their self and try to see what God sees in us, for real.

When have you are others have set down with God and asked Him honestly what His will was in our own life. Not what you've been told or ideals that you have visioned from the word of God, but what is HIS REAL WILL in your life. I know that some will quickly come back with some remark of maybe its none of my business and you are right, but it is God business and how He views you will determine WERE YOU SPEND ETERNITY.

God help us all for it may be a lot closer race then what many want to believe.

1Pe 4:17
For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God?1Pe 4:18
And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear?1Pe 4:19
Wherefore let them that suffer according to the will of God commit the keeping of their souls to him in well doing, as unto a faithful Creator.

2Ti 2:22
Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart.
God Bless

Well, I guess I'm okay then. Unless you climb and look over a 7' high fence (with NO way to look through it), you can't see our spa.

It is as private as can be unless it was inside the house!

However, I do NOT have any problem going to the local water park, swimming pool, lake, or river to swim.

Since I have a LOT of "loose" skin from my weight loss, I always wear a shirt to keep from grossing folks out. My swim trunks are as long as the shorts I wear to church, the store, school, etc.

I don't "see" the other swimmers around me in any way that could be construed as "unholy" or "lustful". I don't care what they are wearing, it doesn't phase me or cause me to sin.

If someone has a problem in that area, then they probably should NOT go to the beach, swimming hole, etc. I believe the word teaches us to flee temptation. Of course, that is why I RARELY step into a buffet place. One of my weaknesses is eating too much and I do NOT want to place myself in a position to sin in that area. The only reason I EVER go to a buffet is if the host of the group chooses one, or the person being honored @ the meal wants to go there (My m-i-l for her B'day), etc. If I have my choice, then a buffet is NEVER the destination.

It's bad enough having pot lucks with our Deeper Impact Group that we pastor. TOO much good food in too large of quantity. I usually take a small spoonful of each item (so as to not offend anyone), then eat a little of each, and take the rest home to "savor later". If I ever started allowing myself to eat all of what I put on my plate, it wouldn't be long before I was huge again.

Of course, that is NOT one of the areas that the legalistic churches (I won't name names) want to touch. It would involve self examination and "condemnation" of many Bishops, Pastors, Evangelists, etc.

Okay, I'm going to duck and hide before the munitions start flying my way.
God Bless You

OK, OK !!!

Concerning "Mixed Bathing."

I promise that I will not take a bath with any woman that is not my wife. However I will go swimming with women any time that I get the chance.
